Unfortunately, cost is a major issue. Painting an ambulance adds easily another 20,000 dollars to the bill. Plus these buses already run around 100,000 and thats’s without all the medical equipment on board.
Fun Fact.... Many people including big chiefs wanted black over red ambulances. Cost isn't an issue. We buy 20-30 ambo's at a time (also get our FSR rigs from the same place) , the dealer pretty much gives Chicago free stuff to keep their business. Unfortunately, a bigger chief with more pull said "Paramedics get into too many accidents due to poor driving. If They are painted red, you will see more dents".
it's unique how chicago ambulance's have "firetruck" sirens such as the Electric Q.

I’ve been there and I’ve personally seen 74 more so probably 74 is busier bit I’m not sure
42 is busier.
In 2020, A42 was ranked 34 Busiest in the city, and 74 was in the 50's.
