Thanks for sharing your gear Adam, I too used to use a lapel Mic, I sayed used to because I haven't made a video in so bloomin long! I used to record externally to a digital dictaphone using a lapel mic, but on longer videos with many edits it was a pain to continually resync the audio and video when editting so I moved to using a DSLR which could take the lapel mic input direct and had a really long lead. The lapel Mic was the cheapest I could get a few years back as I was on a budget but it still sounded a lot better than the built-in Mic in my old video camera.
I use the canon vixia hf r 500. This is the only camcorder with an external mic input. I have mated it to the audio technica lav mic. It makes the perfect light weight recording system with IS, external mic input for good audio, and a 57x zoom. Will be buying a wireless lav mic, as I find movement with the 6 meters of lav cable to be a little cumbersome, and the risk of snapping the cable and/or toppling the tripod and camera. Nice video, thanks for posting.
Cornish Knives I'll be there mate. Trenowth Wood, just down the road from St Austell. Wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it, as had this cold bug for the last week. Just managed to get rid of it now though, so looking good for the weekend. I'll be floating around the Natural Bushcraft camp, and having a wander around the stands as usual. Probably paying far too much attention to Dave Budd lol
There's loads more kit that can be used to get better video and audio, but this setup is nice and small, which is ideal for walking out into the woods with. It takes a little longer to sync the audio to the video when editing, but would rather have half decent sound to my videos these days :)
great video as usual very informative i am a fan so please don't take this the wrong way and i do enjoy all your video's but when your filming you tend to not look at the camera and this makes you look a bit shifty but i have enjoyed all your video's. Paul a fan.
Thanks Paul. I'm not the most comfortable person in front of a camera, and not big on eye contact in day to day situation. I did notice I look a bit shifty in my videos though lol. Working on looking at the camera more ;-]

Great video Adam, thanks for showing us your kit. The zoom H1 sounds great.
Sandy
Thanks Sandy. Your H2 is probably a little more robust, and doesn't weigh much more, or take up much more room I'd imagine.

Liking the audio setup Adam, could do with upgrading my mic at some point...cheers for the info... look forward to the animal sign videos
Thanks Mick. Doesn't look like I'll be making a video this week. Suffering from this cold bug that's going around.
I'm coming to the RV meet near St Austell on Saturday for the day. It would be good to meet up mate 👍

Great kit Adam. It's all Japanese to me. Haven't thought about external mic but I can see the benefits
