- This week we bring you this classic short story, 'The Gift of the Magi', by O. Henry. It is his first appearance on The Well Told Tale, but will not be his last - he is the veritable master of the short story, and this example is no exception. Traditionally, the Magi reached the baby Jesus 12 days after Christmas to bestow their gifts, bringing the Christmas season to a close. While this story is set at Christmas, it is a message that resonates all year round.

Man, he was such a good writer.
I remember this being told over the radio. I was young then, my parents were divorced. I'm old now. I've given much and been given much. We're happy and married. We're old now, no one sends us mail.
I read this when I was 8 years old and loved it.
It's amazing. A wonderful story. I like it

Her hair will grow back
It falls beneath her KNEE bro I don’t think it will be the same again
@@annoyingbookgirl why won’t Della’s hair be the same again?
@@annoyingbookgirl She’s quite young; it will grow back. Always frustrated me that a poignant story with a powerful message was in part ruined by unequal gifts.
