Mary Anderson with a square knot, making sure two fingers will slip easily between the ribbon and the neck. Puppies grow SO fast, you must be sure to check daily & if it gets the least bit tight, cut it off & replace it.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help, I've used the Velcro ones before and found they rubbed my little cockatoos necks so never used them again, the ribbons look a great idea, so il give it ago 😘
That's a great question! It helped us keep all of the puppy records straight. I suppose that knowing the exact order of birth isn't extremely important, but had there been any difficulties with a puppy (or puppies) birth, we would have known exactly which one it was. We ended up having 11 nearly identical pups, whose weights were very similar, so it would have been hard to know who to keep an eye on if one or more had complications at birth. But even if you don't track the time and order of birth, it's very important to keep records of each individual pup's weight gain & other information for procedures that are done "in bulk" - because if you have a lot of pups who all look very similar, it can be hard to remember which pups still need the de-wormer, or nail trimming, or even nursing time. The colored ribbons keep records easy & it makes their new families very happy too!
Hemostats for clamping before cutting umbilicals may be a thoughtful addition...
How do you tie your ribbons to your puppies neck x

Also, places like Jeffers sell pup marking collars with Velcro, if you feel more comfortable with that.

Why do you need to know who was born first?
