Btw, this anime has some the best movement animation and effects because basically it was made by some of the biggest names entire anime industry at that time. Like, even with just animators of such a big studio like madhouse, they brought in animators and cgi artists who work at other like those who have worked in mha, aot, mob psycho and effects artists from gundam.

The interesting thing about vaccine man is that his voice is the same voice as the Japanese voice actor for Frieza from DBZ and he looks like purple piccolo. I also have a theory about how Saitama (the one punch man) got strong But I don't know if this is a good place to mention that because it might be a spoiler.

It's not that he doesn't have emotions , he is just so strong that there is no thrill and excitement in his life anymore he can't even enjoy a good fight and can't even go all out and fight to the fullest , basically he is so OP that he doesn't feel any kind of emotions a person feels when he is in a fight.
Saitama basically started out as a thought experiment of: "What would happen if a Shounin protagonist started out with their end-game power, and how bored would they be?"
Like if Deku started out My Hero Academia able to use One For All at 100%, and how easily he would steamroll over everyone he encountered (although Saitama's obviously far, far stronger than Deku; or, for that matter, Almight).

When I say boring, I mean it severely toned down the satire of stupid animu tropes and started taking itself too seriously. I'm not watching this for plot, since it is nothing to write home about(used to read 3-5 books a week for years, so I love a good plot). Nor do I gush over fights or DBZ, which I've only seen clips of on the internet.

Invincible and Tokyo Revengers are absolutely phenomenal as well.
Both of them are probably actually better shows in terms of quality writing but you cant really fault One punch man for that.
Its literally a parody, its meant to be silly and as far as parodies goes OPM has some of the deepest and thought through writing and messaging there is.
In a way it almost suck that Arcane is the best thing thats come out in decades cuz it really overshadow these absolutely brilliant shows,
OMG the iconic duo is here!! Saitama and Genos are a whole different vibe.
in the story of the OPM tells about someone's obsession because of something that makes them become something that is believed, for example, crabman becomes a monster because before he likes to eat crabs too much, and car monster he becomes a monster because he likes car modification, people who turn into reptiles because they like to care reptile and saitama he can be one punch man because he wants to be a superhero who defeated his enemy with one hit.
the author wants you to think that way because later he reveals the god's plan. monsters popping out of nowhere is his doings. well I guess am too late to comment this because 7 months later you guys probably know how he got his power exactly.

The initial idea for One Punch Man comes from the creator ONE's real-life experience. Where he was working in an office at a company, he became so good at his job that every task he did required no effort. So he quit that job and started the One Punch Man webcomic series, all self-published and free.
He said it right there "I trained so hard I went bald", his training gave him that power.
you're right in the first half of your comment. near death experiences and emotions gave him that power.
We have seen that in opm world obsession manifests.

The animation in season 1 is top top tier. Sometimes it's good to just sit back and appreciate it.
Love this show, very re-watchable.
A big slice of inspiration for OPM, and the fact that ONE is such a brilliantly subversive writer, is that it totally flies in the face of classic Shounen manga and anime, where the MC is always saying "I must get stronger" and fights go on forever (Bleach I'm looking at you). And here's Saitama dealing with everything in one hit. From a writing perspective it's also so much more interesting to see how that can be done, and ONE does it perfectly.
I really kinda wish you guys hadn't started this, because I could go on for ages about just how clever it is in spite of it's apparent simplicity, and about how damn good all aspects of this first season's production was, but I'll do my best to avoid writing a thesis. There are lots of misconceptions among fans about later aspects of the show though, so naturally I'll have to jump in again lol
Good to see that you guys immediately "get" the humor of the show though - seen plenty of reactions where it just goes over people's heads.
Nevermind if it goes over people's head (doesn't mean they're dumb). The main point of watching shows is to shut our brains off and be entertained. Unless you're trying to analyze it.
@@johncortez3716By all means, enjoying the show with a child-like glee is a massive part of its appeal, but if it can be appreciated as an adult too, then why not? Great pieces of writing deserve to be analyzed and OPM is a deceptively great piece of writing. Watching purely for entertainment is fine, but there are plenty of, presumably younger, viewers who get all the wrong ideas and spread them around, which is a disservice to the show.
And to be clear, in no way was I inferring that any members of this channel were "dumb" (which you probably didn't infer either, but again just to be clear). This is literally the only reaction channel I watch nowadays because they have a much better understanding, honest reaction and discussion of what they watch than the vast majority.

The crab man was transformed by eating too much crab. Maybe One Punch Man was transformed by eating too many punches?
Vaccine Man had to be a parody of Piccolo from Dragonball Z. Even his energy ball attacks were similar. It would make sense, because this series started out as a parody of overpowered characters, like those found in Dragonball, but like many parodies, it grew into its own story over time, with great unique characters.
One punch man and Mob Phyco 100 has the same creator so you can compare both animes :D
Saitama is the protagonist of an old manga that the mc had already comleted his journey and achieved the ultimate power. Afterwards, he is doing hero business for fun.
He can't fly but can jump super high and there were little jokes about his consequences like "City B destroyed" bcz the Villain he punched falls on the city.
Edit - And he lose the feelings and the rush of accomplishing something and overcoming burdens bcz he became too strong and it was boring for him.
Fun fact for season 2 of one punch man the main studio working on it decided to choose working on one's other work mob psycho instead so the animation gets changed up
By the way, the "big chinned brat" is one of the most important characters in the show. Without him, there would be no hero association.
Also, Saitama can't fly. He just jumps.
The only thing you have to take serious in this show is Saitama serious face and Mumen Riders conviction

A lot of the characters and villains and costumes are references to older famous manga/anime characters. One punch man's suit is the reverse of An Pan Man (bread superman lol) a super well known children's cartoon. The entire series is kind of an homage/parody haha

As far as i remember it all started out as a meme on 4chan about a japanese guy who made this kid drawing comic of a bald man being too overpowered. It was so funny and dumb that people loved it!

One of the funny things about this anime’s source material, the author could not draw very good. And yet, it got really really popular. And now this
the story and plot is great but when it got a manga adaptation, its more great and I feel chill whenever reading the new manga releases.

One of my fave anime. Seen it at least 10 times. It's easy to rewatch. I hope you watch both seasons. My first introduction to One Punch Man was some art in a Marvel facebook group, of him beheading the Hulk. I had to learn who that anime character was, and he became an iconic favorite. I agree w/ Invincible being 2nd, and I would've liked to see Re: Zero as the 3rd in the poll. I didn't like Tokyo Revengers as much as it was hyped up. I remember Code Geass being repetitive. Made in Abyss is cute, and Bungo Stray Dogs is underrated. I need to catch up on your Attack on Titan reactions. I like to binge watch. Watching weekly is painful. The most fun anime out of that bunch definitely won the poll.

So yeah Vaccine-man was based off of Piccolo from DBZ, but also has Frieza’a voice actor. Also you probably already now this, but OPM and Mob Psycho were created by the same person, he goes by “One”.

One thing to keep in mind is that he can’t defeat just anyone in one punch. It’s more like if you took Superman and put him up against ants. There’s just nobody strong enough around to give him a challenge, yet.

Its a parody show of shonen and superheroes
You went in thinking it was going to be an action show, but it turned out to be a comedy instead; most people get the same surprise when they watch it for the first time.
I say it's not an action show, but one thing the show does very well is to show that Saitama really is an outlier, it WOULD be an action show if he wasn't in it, and whenever he isn't on screen things are taken very seriously by the characters involved and the action and animation are really nice, but as soon as he arrives it changes the tone: suddenly the villains monologues seem ridiculous, the special "named" attacks that people use look silly, and all the classic tropes we are used to are put into a different perspective.
you'll see it more as the show goes on, where Saitama isn't around and everything is dead serious and taken at face-value, and has exceptional choreography, but when he joins in he grounds all the theatrical elements back to reality just by virtue of being so un-phased by everything, and the spectacle of the fights gets the same treatment because he just finishes the fight in a moment (so no more 'calling out your attack name' or 'this is only x% of my true power!' stuff, he just finishes the fight then and there in a single punch, making all their boasting look stupid)

Oh wow! I can't believe you girls are watching this! Yeah, the show is meant to be super silly and pokes fun at A LOT of different types of animes. So, don't feel bad about laughing at some of the things going on. It's meant to be like that. That's why the characters and styles change so much. It's meant to laugh at all the zany characters.
It has very few "serious" moments but I'm sure you will be able to spot them. Other than that, I'm sure you will enjoy this silly show.
