- In a quiet corner of the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy, a small, dedicated team document the past and offers classics a future. This is Ferrari’s Classiche department - and it’s where the world’s most expensive cars come when they need a spruce up.
But it’s only a relatively recent development, as under founder Enzo, Ferrari was a race team first, always focused on what’s next, not what’s past.
It was only in 2004 that CEO Jean Todt spotted the value in the back catalogue and realised that if others were restoring and rebuilding Ferraris, the firm itself should have a stake in that. The Classiche (that second one is a hard C) unit got going two years later.
Two decades on, we’ve been for a poke around, to see just how diverse and adept Classiche has become. Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, is your guide…

Which Ferrari would you like to see restored?
512 Testarossa anyday
No one
Any that are parked on the skull of the garbage who came up with the title. UNSUBSCRIBE!!!
512 BB ❤️
CHARLES LECLERCS FERRARI SO ITLL WIN A DANG RACE
Why can’t you just let the Ferrari guy TALK!!!!
Maybe because he kept saying “how you say…” Or many times during the interview he didn’t know how to translate certain things in his head? You watched the same video or did you just come to complain?
@@csharp57 did (you) watch the video? The interviewer cut him off more times than I could count.
OMG! I have never seen or heard anyone interrupt the person explaining as much as you do. Incredible.
Do others hate being interrupted mid sentence?! Wish Ollie would just let the man finish his sentence and stop interrupting him. Didn't happen once or twice, was pretty much everytime.
I don't watch any video Ollie is in, can't stomach it. Maybe a nice guy. Reminds me of a Jack Russell Terrier. He needs stay away from being in front of camera, they have better talent for that.
Yes, very annoying.
So true, I wish the bald guy would just shut up !!
Yea I was thinking that too, let the man speak
what you're witnessing is how an an introvert and extravert interact, but moreso your complaint is about an extravert who is already hyped up and "in their zone", interacting with people. they thrive on energy, they often want to be or think they are the focus of attention, and therefor they often talk at the same time as someone else because in their moment they are just as important. refined social awareness skills would calm that down a little, but its hard for extraverts to do so given the nature of their persona. the other guy is definitely an introvert so he is more 'taking it in turns' to speak, speaking when it is necessary for him to do so, and nothing more.
Top Gear host needs to STOP INTERJECTING. STOP INTERRUPTING THE PERSON TALKING!!!
So annoying Ollie keeps interrupting the guy. Let him speak freely. We don’t care about you. We care about what he has to say.
He didn’t. I could hear the guy fine.
Yes he did, at every opportunity!
100% agree
@@k1ortia BS.
Me too.
I dont mean to hate, but why does he interrupt the Ferrari guy so much?
Ollie needs to learn not to keep interrupting. It is pretty awful to watch him interrupt this enthousiastic manager
Love how passionate the manager is
That 512 BB is insane
My favourite one in this video. Honestly, don't think I've seen it before today.
Just love it! Best clean lines and simplistic in design.
Yup. Monster car. Monster value too…
Luigi Chinetti 512 BB Competizione Le Mans car 1 of 3
let the manager talk man, so rude interrupting
would be cool if the host would not chime in every 2 seconds
Like a Howard Stern interview
Thinking the same thing. Let him finish his thought before interjecting.
@@andybrimer8216 its especially annoying because english is probably this mans 3rd/4th language its not like he was short of words just a bit pensive
uh huh... yeah... yeah... yep... mmmm... okay... uh huh... yep... yeah
This bald idiot also touched the books with his bare hands when clearly he wasn’t supposed to. Total disrespect and an utter fool.
I wish the host would let the interviewee talk and not keep interrupting him.
I've so been enjoying this modern RUclips interpretation of Top Gear and this video really drives home why. Incredible look into an unbelievable place.
This! Its properly detailed long form content. The TV show could never devote 15 mins to this. It would be about 6 tops. Items such as this need longer time to do the subject justice! Long may it continue.
Who needs the TV show when we have this. Brilliant.
Do bear in mind that this is the Magazine department, not the TV.
I agree that this was an excellent deep dive look into Ferrari! Well done Top Gear RUclips!
100%
Finally TG content that isn't just a video brochure of some dull new electric car
Geez…let the man speak!!!!!
It's easy to be critical.. but gee, if you're going to ask a question It's generally polite to listen to the answer 🙄
Top Gear’s online content outshines what the telly show became over the last few years, with the exception of Harris. It would be great to have him featured on TG’s RUclips channel.
This has to be the most professional workshop in the world, everything is so tidy up, from the tools, the furniture, the cars obviously and those archives are just amazing. All in red folders with the logo of the shop, and even the hand writing of the documents is so elegant. Order becomes art.
The Ferrari F40 (Type F120) is the best car design ever invented by any automaker.
It was Enzo’s last car 👋👋👋
the absolute best design of any car!
Nah. 288 GTO FTW any day
Nah the Miura or Noble m600
MK1 Ford focus for me
This bloke from Top Gear needs to talk less and stop repeating what every other word he hears.
Ferrari restoration deserves the tagline ‘We are checking’
Or one that says "leave me alone I know what I'm doing "
‘We are checkinga’
Incredible. Rome may be the capital, but Italy's heart and soul are in Maranello
0:19 For a ultra high end specialist facility they've managed to create a sign that looks like you've walked in to one of those retro americana burger and milkshake cafes 😂
I was looking for this comment. That was exactly my thought!
I want the table that has all the books on it in the archive. That engine is artwork!
The story of the F1 car in 68’ s/n 0007, built in 67’ and fully updated for the 68’ season, after a bit of googling I found lots of information/pictures of that car. Both with and without the wing, it’s stats for the season, the Spanish GP was a dnf result for a fuel pump. Ferrari’s historical attention to detail is part of what makes this brand so special and their story so amazing. Thank You for sharing this, very cool.👍💯
12:15 is hilarious (watch their hands). "Don't touch the books! Don't you see I'm wearing gloves"
my god I would love to see the original prints, drawings, technical documentations and so on of a bunch of those vehicles
Don't interrupt the respondent. Let him speak
This was the best top gear video I’ve seen for yeeeears. Please more from this workshop!!
Ferrari is basically a religion at this point. Then again, with that 512, I can understand why
What a terrific video….informative and fascinating 👍🏻 great to see a top notch setup like that looking after the heritage of great machines, so current owners and hopefully generations to come can enjoy those amazing cars. Maybe in 16 years when my Pista hits its 20th birthday and I hit 70 years old, my car may grace the ramps of Ferrari’s classic workshop!
The detail they go to just seems so incredible! Visiting the factory is one thing and visiting this absolute masterpiece of a workshop is just a whole different thing.. The Pista is a timeless creation it would be very weird to see it under the classiche programme so soon
Ferrari as an entire brand and company might just be the undisputed masters of pure swag. I am convinced that any public facing representative could out class anyone else from ANY business in any industry. It may not equate to always being the greatest objectively, but I have no doubt they could convince almost anyone to be torn.
Ollie, thanks for sharing this with us! It must have been such an honour to have been hosted there among towering historical and artistic Ferrari artefacts, in the documents and the cars and their parts. A unique living museum. Where would our passion be without Ferrari and other giants of motor racing? An occasion worth rising to.
Great footage. And I love hearing the interviewer speak. Just not when he is interrupting.
Incredible! The records! The workshop everything! Love Ferrari.
Shot on the 5th of December, wow!
why keep this away from us for so long?!
The blured bits, Ferrari wanting to hide who looks after which car.
It takes time to edit things, you know. And they have _LOTS_ of videos (and editing) to do. Also, it's called "scheduling". If they immediately edited and uploaded everything ASAP after it was filmed, then if some unforeseen event prevented them from continuing, there would be a gap in their content for however long the hold up lasted. Also, having a reserve of videos allows all the people involved in making this content to take breaks as they need them (flexible schedules for time off) so that they don't get burnt out or forced to chose between work and a serious family/life event. I know it's easy to forget, but don't be so greedy about how quickly and how often you get provided with this free, high quality content. There are real people, each with their own lives on the other side of the screen who need more than just some supportive comments written about their work on the internet in order to survive and lead fulfilling enough lives to be able to keep producing content of this quality.
@@moogle68 please I work in the industry, this doesn't take 4 months to edit
@@mikesmith7496 I never said it takes 4 months to edit. It just takes a bit of time, but the other reasons I mentioned are more likely the reasons why they don't immediately upload everything. Almost all big channels have an upload schedule set with a backlog of content for the reasons I mentioned in my previous comment. I video edit as well. Again, don't get greedy and whiny about free content you infantile pillocks.
RUclips is based on quickly editing and uploading. Like this dude needs to sit down. They not editing a movie.
Fantastic video, the passion is infectious!
great vid thanks for sharing
This series is amazing
Everything is so amazing about this video. The records keeping is simply incredible.
How boss is that to look up information on a Ferrari on a glass table with a V12 as the table’s legs.
Love the top gear direction!
Great story. More content like this please!
Outstanding presentation abd content. History
This was a great video. Thank y ou
I loved all of the footage of classic Ferraris'!
Great video, thanks.
WTH, when I saw that #87 car, I got goose bumps and started tearing up! Gorgeous!!
You can tell the manager loves his work very much, great vid!
That table!!!!
Incredible! Would love to see a 2hr video on this place.
Absolutely amazing!
Absolute genius 🔥🔥😊
Fascinating to see….thank you Top Gear
Incredible!! Once I learn Italian, I’m filling out an application! 😆
I took so much away from this. Loved the way Mr. Ferrari was so meticulous. I want to be that way as well.
Favorite Ferrari's, F40 & the Enzo
That workshop is a slice of heaven and a slice of hell. Heaven for the beauty, hell for the amount of notes.
Beautiful.
This is why Ferrari is Ferrari and always will be the special brand
Does anyone know the relationship between the BB Race car and Luigi Chinetti? Was that one of his own cars or a privateers car.
TOP GEAR Actually doing Car Journalism ???? Yes please 🔥
Top Gear is killing it, yes pls ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dream machines, especially the F40
08:00 that's a H12 Ferrari engine. Anyone knows what Ferrari model got an H12 in it ?
All those ledgers would be a dream to just sit and go through
Brilliant!
Love they have live plants even in the shop
Andy Modena? Any relation?!
Isn’t the testerossa engine a flat 12 (180* V8) and not a boxer due to how the pistons move?
And that ladies and gentlemen is why Ferrari will always be numero uno ❤🏁
i'd pay them to work there!
dream field trip
Aside from the interrupting, we could all do - I think - without the elevator-music.
Ferrari is the most iconic car brand.
Love it Aston do the same at Newport Pagnall. If you can get one, love one 👋 you can’t go wrong……..ever
I Love Motor Cycles And Cars And Jets
I love the honor of Enzo 's ghost.
Not Ollie's best day 🤐
I am wondering what would happen if the famous and most reliable Ferrari 308 GTBi K24 was brought to this shop 🙌🏻👌🏻
guys, the subtitles are compeletely out of sync
The KTM 690 SMC is an amazing motorcycle. I sold my SMC and when I get the chance to buy it back I did. Best decision I ever made
I hope they have a backup of all those physical documents, and then a backup of the backups.
So much history...
Wow
Filmed in December! It doesn't take that long to edit so I wonder if that meticulous Ferrari basis had to make sure the approval was air tight!
Bring back Jeremy, James and Hammond!
lol that F40 was just massively devalued on a top gear video, I can see why the plate has been blurred among other things.
The monetary value in that garage is incalculable. I saw several cars that are, individually, worth millions of dollars.
Best TG content for some time, thank you. But.... in line with other comments.... Ollie - without wishing to be rude, please just zip it a bit.
Sacred ❤💪🏆
My ultimate 100% dream job.
i know understand why some think the 512 is the greatest Ferrari
Italians with complete records. Who knew.
🎶 13:17
Incredible view into an amazing workshop. But if I can give some very petty criticism. Don't put a fake film border that is completely incorrect around the photos. Just put up the photo...
Service here probably a little bit more expensive than for your regular Golf 😂😂😂
1:00 It becomes a Classiche after 20 years? I still can't see the F60 Enzo becomes one. I still feels as if it was launched yesterday. My, we really have grown up.
Subtitles are unsynced.
