We in the US, as far as I can tell, live in an Orwellian alternate reality. War is peace! The “Patriot Act” allows our government to dig into our private lives and label us “terrorist” and lock us in a military prison indefinitely for any reason they choose or for no reason at all! And all the while we’re “fighting to save democracy!”. On and on, calling it Orwellian really doesn’t begin to cover it.
The US has virtually no limitations or regulations on campaign spending, advertising et cetera. Those limits that technically exist are not enforced particularly stringently and are easy to bypass. And the US supreme court has over time made it harder to attempt to regulate these forms of influence. What in other countries would absolutely be undue influence or subornment is so fundamentally normal and built in to the US system that their politics would collapse without it. That is to say, politics is an industry unto itself in the US. Facebook for instance has its own teams that interface directly with the two major political parties to help them develop advertising strategies. Most companies, most individuals, tend to support both sides. It's not about buying a senator, for instance, it's about the threat of withdrawing support or increasing it to the opponent. It's about ensuring everyone in every party is dependent on you, because ad buys are highly competitive and the amount of money spent is extreme.

Candidates To Sign Pledges Of Support For "Israel" - Cynthia McKinney Drops Bombshell May 23, 2011 U.S. POLITICIANS FORCED TO SUPPORT ISRAEL In an interview which aired on Press TV on Saturday-one day before the AIPAC conference got under way in Washington, former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney revealed what amounts to some pretty startling news regarding the extent of the Israeli lobby's influence over Congress. During her years in Congress, she stated, candidates for both the House and the Senate were requested to sign pledges of support for Israel, documents in which the candidate promised to vote to provide consistent levels of economic aid to the Zionist state. Refusal to sign the pledge meant no funding for the candidate's campaign. "You make a commitment that you will vote to support the military superiority of Israel, the economic assistance that Israel wants, that you would vote to provide that," McKinney, who served in Congress from 1993-2003 and again 2005-2007, tells Press TV interviewer Marzieh Hashemi in the two-part video program below. According to McKinney, the pledge also included a vow to support Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel. "Every candidate for Congress at that time had a pledge, they were given a pledge to sign..." she said. "If you don't sign the pledge, you don't get money. For example, it was almost like water torture for me. My parents observed this. I would get a call and the person on the other end of the phone would say `I want to do a fundraiser for you.' And then we would get into the planning. I would get really excited, because of course you have to have money in order to run a campaign. And then two weeks, three weeks into the planning, they would say, `Did you sign the pledge?' And then I would say, `No, I didn't sign the pledge.' And then my fundraiser would go kaput." During her years in Congress, McKinney opposed U.S. involvement in foreign wars, questioned the official version of the events of 911, and introduced articles of impeachment against former President George W. Bush. Her final term in Congress came to an end after AIPAC, or the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, funneled money into the campaign of her opponent, Hank Johnson. McKinney's comments to Press TV came on the eve of the AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington, which was addressed Sunday by President Barack Obama. Last Thursday, Obama gave a "major speech" on the Middle East in which he suggested that a basis for peace in the region might be a withdrawal by Israel to its pre-1967 borders. However, in his speech Sunday, the president, quite predictably, backtracked on the proposal-and it may well have been Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who laid down the law to him. "On Friday, I was joined at the White House by Prime Minister Netanyah, and we reaffirmed that fundamental truth that has guided our presidents and prime ministers for more than 60 years-that, even while we may at times disagree, as friends sometimes will, the bonds between the United States and Israel are unbreakable, and the commitment of the United States to the security of Israel is ironclad," Obama told the conference. He also clarified what he had meant by his reference to "1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps" made in his speech Thursday. "By definition, it means that the parties themselves, Israelis and Palestinians will negotiate a border that is different than the one that existed on June 4, 1967," he said. McKinney was a candidate for president on the Green Party ticket in 2008. Also in 2008 she sailed aboard the Free Gaza ship Dignity as it attempted to deliver humanitarian supplies to Gaza, making a second effort to reach the blockaded territory the following year on the Spirit of Humanity. Both ships were blocked from reaching their destination by the Israeli Navy. Her comments about the pledges required of candidates for Congress are made in the second part of the program. In the first part she discusses how her congressional district in Georgia was dismantled through a legal suit brought about with the assistance of the Anti-Defamation League.
What about her supporting Ukraine? Cannot vote her for one issue. She takes a lobbyist money from pharma industry as well. She lets other lobbyists run US Congress.
Every lobbyists include big pharma, many lobbyists were former US govt officials and the unelected ones. On both parties. I know of AIPAC members Jews mostly vote for dems- 95%. But AIPAC does go over to the other side too. Genocide Joe as U.S Senator has been the one for years up to his presidency. Israel's favorite guy. You cannot easily become a politician without taking something from lobbyists. Lobbyists love dirty games, pull the strings attached and conflicts of interest. They have the power to run the media to smear you, if oppose to theirs. AIPAC is part of CIA assets as well.

The U. S. Constitution is a framework for some administration of the state not an enumeration of humane democracy. The Constution does not prohibit electoral control by capitalists but rather ratifies slavery. Article I, Section 2 of the original Constitution is commonly known as the three-fifths compromise. It stated that each enslaved individual counted as three-fifths of a person in terms of representation in Congress, which is based on population. The compromise was struck between those who argued that enslaved people should not be counted at all and those who argued that all should be counted, thereby increasing representation for Southern states. Enslaved people did not have the right to vote, so this issue had nothing to do with voting rights; it merely enabled Southern states to count them among their population totals. No amendment, including the 14th Amendment, expressly abrogated the three-fifths provision. Enslavement Article I, Section 9, Clause 1 of the original Constitution prohibited Congress from passing laws that banned enslavement.

As a person who is not an American citizen, I do not understand how they talk about these amounts of money given to the senators and politicians without talking about them being bribes!!???😮. How can this be so open??
We in the US, as far as I can tell, live in an Orwellian alternate reality.
War is peace!
The “Patriot Act” allows our government to dig into our private lives and label us “terrorist” and lock us in a military prison indefinitely for any reason they choose or for no reason at all!
And all the while we’re “fighting to save democracy!”.
On and on, calling it Orwellian really doesn’t begin to cover it.
Because the Supreme Court said so.
It is very likely that an AIPAC like group does the same thing in your Country.

While money cannot buy one happiness, it can indeed buy one any number of congresspeople and enormous political influence.
And don't forget Supreme Court Justices....
Exactly
It’s ALL an illusion.
If you have enough money to buy politicians, you can shape the world in a way that makes you happy.
And for shockingly little money... in some cases, as little as 5000 dollars is all it takes to buy representation and political favors.

Candidates To Sign Pledges Of Support For "Israel" - Cynthia McKinney Drops Bombshell
May 23, 2011
U.S. POLITICIANS FORCED TO SUPPORT ISRAEL
In an interview which aired on Press TV on Saturday-one day before the AIPAC conference got under way in Washington, former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney revealed what amounts to some pretty startling news regarding the extent of the Israeli lobby's influence over Congress.
And then two weeks, three weeks into the planning, they would say, `Did you sign the pledge?' And then I would say, `No, I didn't sign the pledge.' And then my fundraiser would go kaput."
During her years in Congress, McKinney opposed U.S. involvement in foreign wars, questioned the official version of the events of 911, and introduced articles of impeachment against former President George W.

American democracy 🙄
The U. No amendment, including the 14th Amendment, expressly abrogated the
three-fifths provision.
Enslavement
Article I, Section 9, Clause 1 of the original Constitution prohibited Congress from passing laws that banned enslavement.

With so much undisclosed, untraceable money funding campaigns, buying access to lawmakers, and even allowing corporate lawyers to write laws that benefit their companies, it may be too late to turn the tide. Check out ALEC as example of last claim.
I don't know if there waking up or not.
AIPAC should register as a foreign agent.
But a special exemption was carved out just for them!
I’ll bet it was even one of those ultra rare bipartisan consensus.
@@mischevious Vote out the special exemption.
@@theo7326 That would be up to the House and Senate, currently voting in favor of their stock portfolios.
Sorry
@@mischevious I understand
@@mischevious I know it must come from bottum up so the people should take the lead to change that and not leave it to the politicians who are bought by AIPAC with tax payers money.
Thanks for the continuous update! I'll be forever grateful to you Mrs Susan Hall, I really don't know how to appreciate you, you change my life and my family situation.❤
Foreign lobby groups, influencing American politics is a huge deal. Saudi Arabia and India both engage in this as well. It's one of the many reasons we need to get money out of politics and have federally funded elections once and for all. We owe it to democracy to make sure our representatives represent the voters and not monied interests.
Great!
How to get those representing their own stock portfolios and their genoc..al friends to vote for the change we need at their own expense is the insurmountable task.
At least you are being even handed. But that said, I want to offer a slight correction. AIPAC is really not a foreign lobby group in the way Saudi Arabia might lobby. AIPAC has MANY AMERICAN FUNDAMENTALIST CHRISTIAN and AMERICAN JEWISH donors. Last time I checked, American Jews were still counted as Americans as are fundamentalist Christians. The system in that sense is working correctly. The left is unhappy with what the Americans that support AIPAC want, but they are Americans.
We need to reverse Citizen's United first.
Amazing journalism. Thank you, Mr. Grim for your thorough and important work.
Such an important piece! Money in politics - the root of ALL evil.
Power to the Squad !!!!!
Yes. Vote them in. Vote more progressives in.
aipac needs too be banned from lobbying or be forced to register as a foreign agent
How giving money to politicians to push policies is legal in this country? It sounds like a bribery to me, I don’t get it.
Because it is BRIBERY.
It's not usually direct. It's for their campaign funding. It's called a PAC. Biden did this for banks as a senator. Gifts and cash are illegal. It's possible it happens though, politicians are corrupt.
Both sides of the isle take lobbyist bribes, but when given a chance in the past Democrats have voted to significantly limit how much individual donors can give a representative/candidate. The Republicans keep filling the Courts with Heritage Foundation libertarians who shoot those laws down.

The ziofascists have always been doing it. Hush!!!!!!!!
AIPAC is American... it's the money. Foreign nationals can't donate directly to candidates. Thus, American supporters create and support orgs like AIPAC, creating the indirect avenues of money and more direct correspondence.

This cannot be repeated enough.
I once had hopes that the Democratic party might listen to these incredible progressive voices and realize that they are the voice of the future. I fear that the corporate elitists currently leading the party seemed determined to live in the past and refuse to acknowledge that "business as usual" is no longer acceptable. If they lose to Donald Trump and the Republicans in November, maybe they will realize that trying to move closer and closer to the Republican agenda, offering candidates only slightly better than the Republicans is not a viable long term strategy.
Get big money out of politics!
How?
Legislation.
@@laluba3603 by no paying interest/ usury, takes money from poor and puts it in the pockets of big banks you know who owns the bank and the other word is not a penny for them
@@marziaball5089 If you are insinuating that it is "the Jews" that "takes money" and "owns the bank" then you better try that argument on someone with a lack of a good, functioning brain. Because you sound like a Nazi trying to spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, marziaball5089.

The title should be called plain and simple: AIPAC BRIBES. Politicians.
In the next US elections, we need to be asking candidates if they are pro-Israel and if they have accepted money from pro-Israel groups. We must let these candidates know that a foreign government will not control us. We need to stress the importance of prioritizing domestic issues instead of giving Israel 14 billion dollars annually
