I'm so glad you watched this episode! This is easily one of my favorite episodes of Death Battle, especially because of the fight and that GLORIOUS music track, Reverse Rosé. So now, I want to point out some fun details about the fight. 1. Valentine Stokes, the VA for Reverse Flash in this fight, is the same guy who did the "It was me, Barry" meme. 2. The newspaper and Quicksilver's death are in reference to The Flash vs Quicksilver Death Battle that they did WAAAAAAY back im Season 3. (It's not that great of an episode, but it's a fun reference nonetheless). RF is the REAL reason why he died since he was the one to put the statue there. 3. The only times that Goku Black ever hits RF is when RF is distracted by something else or gets too cocky. 4. RF attacks the cup of tea first because he's a petty bitch lol. 5. GB only goes back in time when RF does because the Time Ring does not allow the user to go wherever they want. There has to be a pre-existing time rift to go through. 6. RF finishes saying "WHY AREN'T YOU DEAD!?" first because he thinks faster due to the Speed Force. 7. RF saying "Empty threats to a living paradox!" doesn't have a Doppler effect to it because he can speak so fast that he can make his voice sound like it's your own thoughts. 8. The visual of Quicksilver dying is perfectly in sync with the song because the lyrics say "Thought it was him, but it was me", again referencing that Thawne killed Quicksilver, not Barry. I love this fight so much, I can quote it almost beat for beat with pretty solid impressions. In fact, I might make a video doing that if anyone's interested.
Fun fact about speedsters in DC: I have no idea if you knew that, but they are so fast, that even *DEATH* couldn't catch up to them, so it has to create a special avatar *just for speedster,* The Black Flash.

How broken is the speed force: my favorite example is The Black Flash. Its Death, literally, but a Death that comes only for those who hace access to the speed force (because normal death can't catch them I guess). He chased one of the Flash, and he ran. And ran. And ran. For years (time was stopped for all except speedforce users)wiith Black Flash right behind him all the time, until finally he reaches beyondtge realm of existence, he ran so far away he reached a point so far outside of creation that Death doesnt exist, so Black Flash disappeared and he was able to go back.

funniest thing in the episode is probably that while the ring would let Goku Black hop along if Thawne time travels, he'd still be permadead the first time Thawne kills him, it doesn't make him immortal like Reverse Flash at all. RF did not need to do anything to the ring to win. They only said so to make the fight seem more fair and to use the writing gimmick of them hopping back and forth. Which, tbh, as long as the result stays the same, is not a bad thing. would've been nice if they took that further though and added all the Fused and Infinite Zamasu stufff too though. Like they already mention in the results, Thawne could very easily defeat all of that as he has deleted whole timelines before, exactly like how Zeno killed Infinite Zamasu, but i would have liked to see that in the animation instead of the looping gimmick, perhaps. Ok, I've noticed something they sort of glossed over- Goku Black is immortal. Not just with the ring. After getting Goku's body, he used the time ring to go to a time when the Super Dragonball were not on cooldown and used that wish to make Goku's body immortal. In fact, they directly mention "Goku's body was mortal." No, that's why Xeno had to erase the entire reality. He couldn't be killed by anything less then entire universal erasure. See here's a little part of the problem- Death Battle, at the time, was owned by Rooster Teeth, which was owned by none other than Warner Bros. The same Warner Bros. That owned DC Publishing. They'll deny any bias, certainly, but it's rarely wise to upset the boss
Zamasu was immortal, black explicitly was not, the two literally had a conversation about that with Zamasu asking black why he never did so, pretty sure that was why their fused form ended up going through unstable mutations as they started to actually be harmed.
Wrong, Goku Black is explicitly stated to NOT be immortal. Only Zamasu was. When they fused, Black's mortal body was corrupting Zamasu's immortal body. This episode is absolutely correct.
This is completely false. You're confusing Manga for Anime (which, i believe is what they're using here.) In the anime, it is ZAMASU that inherits the immortality while keeping his own body, whereas Goku Black remains the way he is, for the thrill of battle and boosting his own power.
Comic book characters are almost on par with cartoon characters. They can literally do anything without any consequences whatsoever. Which means that any anime or video game character you can think of, there's always a comic or cartoon character that can destroy them in an infinite amount of ways. Comics and cartoons are stupidly OP to the point of ridiculousness and insanity.
As much as I agree with the match-up and reasonings behind this. I find it odd and inconsistent as hell how the speed force is supposed to work in general. (Hence, why I'm not a fan of these characters) Because here's my issue with this, if a random guy (reverse flash) can just take a suit, use the speed force and do exactly the same shit all of Flash family can do and more, just because he can. Why can't this be applicable to literally anyone who gets it? (Basically writers had no idea how to make a compelling Villan, so they bullshit their way and say, he's just a paradox, just because the plot demands it. Just so, a partially well thought solution actually ended his existence, since that was his motivation in the first place.)
Thawne is a paradox because he travels back in time to become the inspiration for the Flash, which then inadvertently leads to his own creation as the Reverse Flash, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy and a paradoxical time loop where his existence depends on the very person he is trying to destroy. Also Thawne doesn't use the speed force, he uses its opposite, negative speed force. That's why he's so different from other speed force users.

Characters will get thousands of times stronger in one arc, and characters with absolutely no business being as strong as they are will suddenly gain power solely for the sake of the plot only to be sidelined and become irrelevant again in the next arc. Sometimes, this even happens within the same arc. These characters are literally only as strong as the plot requires them to be 99% of the time, and even then, it’s just to showcase how strong another character is.
To anyone complaining that Thawne finding out the ring was stupid, Observe how RF kills Goku Black, it really shows Thawne’s intelligence by analysis. First Thawne tries an enhanced punch but Black survives somehow, possibly due to the Negative speed force. Next, Thawne impales him at super speed & black still lives, hinting at a potent healing factor. Thawne resorts to atomization for a third attempt to prevent healing but Black miraculously survives again, revealing his paradoxical nature. Thawne then deduces the source of this paradox from a scene where Black kills his past self, realizing it’s the time ring. He decides to remove it & destroys it. With the paradox powers gone Thawne defeats him *Also another major key factor is that the time ring would maybe alert black of a few things however Thawne would immediately sense what the ring is doing & would destroy it hastily. He has complete control over time travel & can sense when others time travel & can sense when time & space are being messed with. This and the fact that the ring glows whenever black uses it means that Thawne wouldn’t hesitate to destroy it instantly*

Idle comment - I've seen more than one comment about how Japanese names and phrases can be pretty funny or odd when translated into English, but I think there's a key problem here - Translation. Japanese words and phrase canpack a ton meaning just in one word and more in one phrase. So translating them can be... Iffy. If you apply real world physics to dragon ball, it is a sad picture. First, they have a planet whos gravitational pull is strong enough to hinder people, but is so small that we cant measure how much gravity is there. Meaning that the people in the DB universe are so weak that if they came to our world, they would disintegrate instantly. And secondly, they get hurt from their own ki energy. Something that is impossible in several different ways. Meaning that you could breathe on them and they would die.

How broken is the speed force: my favorite example is The Black Flash. Its Death, literally, but a Death that comes only for those who hace access to the speed force (because normal death can't catch them I guess). He chased one of the Flash, and he ran. And ran. And ran. For years (time was stopped for all except speedforce users)wiith Black Flash right behind him all the time, until finally he reaches beyondtge realm of existence, he ran so far away he reached a point so far outside of creation that Death doesnt exist, so Black Flash disappeared and he was able to go back.

funniest thing in the episode is probably that while the ring would let Goku Black hop along if Thawne time travels, he'd still be permadead the first time Thawne kills him, it doesn't make him immortal like Reverse Flash at all. RF did not need to do anything to the ring to win. They only said so to make the fight seem more fair and to use the writing gimmick of them hopping back and forth. Which, tbh, as long as the result stays the same, is not a bad thing.
would've been nice if they took that further though and added all the Fused and Infinite Zamasu stufff too though. Like they already mention in the results, Thawne could very easily defeat all of that as he has deleted whole timelines before, exactly like how Zeno killed Infinite Zamasu, but i would have liked to see that in the animation instead of the looping gimmick, perhaps. Who's to say what the budget allows them

Ok, I've noticed something they sort of glossed over- Goku Black is immortal. Not just with the ring. After getting Goku's body, he used the time ring to go to a time when the Super Dragonball were not on cooldown and used that wish to make Goku's body immortal.
In fact, they directly mention "Goku's body was mortal." No, that's why Xeno had to erase the entire reality. He couldn't be killed by anything less then entire universal erasure.
See here's a little part of the problem- Death Battle, at the time, was owned by Rooster Teeth, which was owned by none other than Warner Bros. The same Warner Bros. That owned DC Publishing. They'll deny any bias, certainly, but it's rarely wise to upset the boss

Zamasu was immortal, black explicitly was not, the two literally had a conversation about that with Zamasu asking black why he never did so, pretty sure that was why their fused form ended up going through unstable mutations as they started to actually be harmed.
Wrong, Goku Black is explicitly stated to NOT be immortal. Only Zamasu was. When they fused, Black's mortal body was corrupting Zamasu's immortal body. This episode is absolutely correct.
This is completely false. You're confusing Manga for Anime (which, i believe is what they're using here.) In the anime, it is ZAMASU that inherits the immortality while keeping his own body, whereas Goku Black remains the way he is, for the thrill of battle and boosting his own power.
Comic book characters are almost on par with cartoon characters. They can literally do anything without any consequences whatsoever. Which means that any anime or video game character you can think of, there's always a comic or cartoon character that can destroy them in an infinite amount of ways.

Because here's my issue with this, if a random guy (reverse flash) can just take a suit, use the speed force and do exactly the same shit all of Flash family can do and more, just because he can. Why can't this be applicable to literally anyone who gets it?
(Basically writers had no idea how to make a compelling Villan, so they bullshit their way and say, he's just a paradox, just because the plot demands it. Just so, a partially well thought solution actually ended his existence, since that was his motivation in the first place.)
Thawne is a paradox because he travels back in time to become the inspiration for the Flash, which then inadvertently leads to his own creation as the Reverse Flash, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy and a paradoxical time loop where his existence depends on the very person he is trying to destroy. Also Thawne doesn't use the speed force, he uses its opposite, negative speed force. That's why he's so different from other speed force users.

Characters will get thousands of times stronger in one arc, and characters with absolutely no business being as strong as they are will suddenly gain power solely for the sake of the plot only to be sidelined and become irrelevant again in the next arc. Sometimes, this even happens within the same arc. These characters are literally only as strong as the plot requires them to be 99% of the time, and even then, it’s just to showcase how strong another character is.
To anyone complaining that Thawne finding out the ring was stupid, Observe how RF kills Goku Black, it really shows Thawne’s intelligence by analysis. First Thawne tries an enhanced punch but Black survives somehow, possibly due to the Negative speed force.
Next, Thawne impales him at super speed & black still lives, hinting at a potent healing factor. Thawne resorts to atomization for a third attempt to prevent healing but Black miraculously survives again, revealing his paradoxical nature. Thawne then deduces the source of this paradox from a scene where Black kills his past self, realizing it’s the time ring. He decides to remove it & destroys it. With the paradox powers gone Thawne defeats him
*Also another major key factor is that the time ring would maybe alert black of a few things however Thawne would immediately sense what the ring is doing & would destroy it hastily. He has complete control over time travel & can sense when others time travel & can sense when time & space are being messed with. This and the fact that the ring glows whenever black uses it means that Thawne wouldn’t hesitate to destroy it instantly*

Idle comment - I've seen more than one comment about how Japanese names and phrases can be pretty funny or odd when translated into English, but I think there's a key problem here - Translation. Japanese words and phrase canpack a ton meaning just in one word and more in one phrase. So translating them can be... Iffy. And I guess sometimes you end up with redundant sounding phrases like "Super Saiyan God Saiyan Blue" or however it went.
Also - They kinda skirted just how petty Thawne can get, if I understand the story right. If my memory is right, Thawne ***@ed with Barry by traveling back in time to when Barry was with his first girlfriend, and used super speed to ******bate Barry when he was having *** with his first girlfriend, essentially faking Barry being a quickshot. My understanding is that's where the 'It was me, Barry!,' meme was at its strongest, maybe even where it started. Just checked Google, so killing Flash's mom is where the meme started, and was probably one of his most straight up evil deeds, but this? This feels like one of his most petty deeds. He is that petty and obsessed. Reverse Flash is genuinely a Yandere Supervillain.
Edit: Turns that someone made that up as part of the meme, DC didn't have Thawne do the superspeed fake quickshot to Barry. But the thing is? As he's portrayed in DC, Reverse-Flash would *totally do that*, if DC wasn't afraid of getting censored.
If you apply real world physics to dragon ball, it is a sad picture. First, they have a planet whos gravitational pull is strong enough to hinder people, but is so small that we cant measure how much gravity is there. Meaning that the people in the DB universe are so weak that if they came to our world, they would disintegrate instantly. And secondly, they get hurt from their own ki energy. Something that is impossible in several different ways. Meaning that you could breathe on them and they would die.
