Excellent tutorial 👍 Too many supposed 'tutorials' on RUclips that are just speed art with no narration or explanation of techniques whatsoever, but you are a great teacher! Thank you.
You explained this so well and made it very easy to understand. Great tip on changing the color as well to vary how much gets taken out of the artwork. Thank you for sharing this with us.
found this today for a client wanting "more patina" on a logo, which i could do easily in photoshop but need the extra skills in illustrator, so thanks! That being said, occasionally i have to look up tutorials on how to do something with a lot of experience -- and in comparison to other tutorials, i like your voice, character, extra tips, quick but easy to understand method of explaining while fun and upbeat. thanks for your help and keep doing what you're doing!
Hi Zimri, watched loads of your content over the last couple of months, but finally decided I must leave you a comment :) All your stuff is super helpful, well informed and entertaining. Love your style and eye for things. Thanks for doing what you do and sharing it with us!
Zimri, thank you so much for creating content like this! I'm not a design student or anything close to that, but I really enjoy design and I'm trying to learn by myself. Your tutorials are REALLY helpful and I already did the flat building tutorial and the long shadows tutorial. Thank you, really!!
As someone who works in print, please don't send in art for print that has a bazillion vectors. A commercial printer needs to process your art for 4 color lithography and that process gets clogged up if it needs to trap and calculate the math on a bazillion vectors. A lot of Illustrator plug-ins fill the art board with vector art as well. Check the wire frame of your art before sending it to print. If the wire frame looks like it takes awhile to render the wires out then consider flattening a high resolution photoshop pdf for your printer at print size.
First video of yours I've seen. Great energy and not annoying or screaming in my ear the whole time-solid combo my friend. Oh and the content was good too :P Subscribed.
Thanks for tutorial! I appreciate your tip on choosing the option to choose colors (grayscale iw what is amounts to) to control how much we want to mask out. And thanks too for the free vector textures and teaching us how to make our own textures.
Awesome video. I didn't realize how much effort it takes to decipher heavy accents different than my own when trying to learn new processes. How do I know if I liked a tutorial video....I get a little anxious to see the other videos from that creator!! Off I go to your video collection! Thanks!
I am coming as a veteran Photoshopper, trying to shift into the vector world of Illustrator. To add a texture in Photoshop, you would take a transparent texture layer, put it in a mask over your artwork, and then either reduce your texture layer's opacity or apply layer styles like Multiply. That ADDS that texture's color overtop of your artwork, without removing anything from your artwork itself. Are all textures in Illustrator subtractive?
hi bro, this video is very good, I was very helped by this video thanks. But I have a question, can I sell the logo design results using this texture in logoground or something, thank you🙌
The redpegdesign link is not working for me. So I get to the open the file on Dropbox (where its at) but once I am there it gives me a jpeg., ai., and pdf. version/options to download the vectors, but it won't let me download it. Like there is no option to download, even if I right click it. How do you download it? Please help
Zimri Mayfield that's what they tell everyone, but anyways keep doing whatever you do with your life. I will always be here(with all the other great people who are subscribed to you) to support you(well if I don't let web development take over my passion for design). Best wishes.
why do you group the brush strokes vs. combining or making a compound path out of them. Doesn't doing that (combining) reduce anchor points thus creates a more efficient file.
For texture I assume an image or vector file that can fill an element. Just like pattern works in photoshop. Don't know if you can call this textures...
how can i delete the parts of the texture, which are hidden in the mask? because when I create a PNG file, all parts of the texture are visible again. :( thanks a lot
My texture does not appear when I make the mask, It says its there but its not visible at all not even when i select it its only marking the frame :( HELP
Even 6 years later, this was a great tutorial. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial 👍

Does this work in CS6? I've tried a few times, but the textures just remain white on top and don't actually delete anything...

Don't know if you can call this textures...
When I open the textures in Illustrator they aren't isolated so i can't select just one. Any idea why this is?
how can i delete the parts of the texture, which are hidden in the mask? because when I create a PNG file, all parts of the texture are visible again. :( thanks a lot
