It took until the DS to give us a 1-to-1 port of UMK3 that is still the most accessible means of playing the thing. We really need a new compilation of the klassic trilogy.
Stick the voice from MK Advance into the SNES version along with at least a few of all the missing backgrounds (Bank, Subway, Street, Church, Soul Chamber, Balcony, Bridge, Bell Tower & Graveyard) & the SNES version would've been just about perfect, other than not having the arcade music. A 40 meg cart might've done the trick (and maybe included Sheeva) instead of using the same size cart as MK3 (32 megs). It would've been more expensive, but it would've been a great sendoff to SNES gamers & given a much more complete version
At least the Tiger Electronics version had an excuse for being as bad as it was. This awful port is running on hardware thats considerably more powerful than the SNES and it still manages to be painful to watch.
Your idea of doing the street fighter ports from the GBA and Super Nintendo is a great idea. From what I remember the GBA of Street Fighter 2 was incredible.
It's missing the individual endings (save for E. Ryu's) and some.sounds here and there (Sakura's voice being the most notable), but other than that, it's an excellent port, just like SFA1 (also by Crawfish) for the GBC.
Having first played ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in the arcades, I was super excited when I found out the game was coming to super Nintendo. But when I finally got the game, I was a little bit disappointed because it lacked a considerable amount of content from the arcade such as sound effects, music, and stages.
Serously, that's not even a contest. MK Advance is one of the worst fighting games ever made, while the SNES port of UMK3 is actually a quite decent, well playable version of the game (I just wish it would have more backgrounds).
I remember being so excited when I first saw MK Advance thinking it would be like SSF2 Revival but was terribly disappointed in how MK Advance played i didn't play it again
The GBA version has pretty clean voice samples but there are limitation on them and the sound effects. Some sounds are cut off while others like the name announcement are in this version. The Music loops earlier than expected and some tracks are gone.
the real problem with MK Advance was that they was rushing out for Deadly Alliance, the developers of UMK3 SNES were too different from UMK3 Genesis and the limitant for high low attacks and limitant AI vs CPU random powerful special patterns. Anyway handheld MK games were redeemed with MK Deadly Alliance and TE ports for GBA and also the best handheld game for the saga was UMK3 DS port that is too similar to the arcade and also MK Unchained was the best 3D game of the series, MK9 for Vita is good too, but the recent era MK 11 and MK 1 had some issues but they play OK
Devs of the GBA port oughta be ashamed of themselves. Especially when you think of the Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival ports and how well made they were

I played both before and I’ll choose UMK3 on SNES(even with the pillow sound) over MKA for GBA it was the most terrible MK game ever in existence (next to MK Special Forces).
They gave it to the wrong team to developed. The GBA was more than capable of a good Ultimate MK3 port but Midway gave the project to the wrong team and it flop big time.
At the end of the day, Midway still deserves the brunt of the blame. Either they assumed it was playable enough to release, or they ignored their game testers/paid them off to approve it for release. The Internet was not yet widely available and so they could easily get away with either scenario.
I remember reading reviews for mortal kombat advance and I can’t believe it turned out as bad as it apparently did…after several tries with ports over the years, you’d think they’d get it just right
@@jonbourgoin182 It's so hard to find articles from back in 2001 (I was in high school and was so pissed off when this released, I bought it day 1) But from what I remember, there was a clip/interview somewhere of someone interviewing Ed Boon and him being put on the spot and asked what he thought about MK:A being one of the worst game ports of all time... being given a 2/10 on IGN , 0 on EMG, and 2.9 on gamespot... Ed responded with something like "It wasn't THAT bad, was it?!..." (laughing with a smile on his face) i really really wish i could find it...If I find it, ill post it here...

When I found out mk was going to be out on the Advance, I was going to buy the Advance just for this game. I saw one review, and I saved my money and never bought the game boy cause of this port. Nintendo should've had a buy-back program cause of this garbage. I almost spent a lot of money. Thank goodness for the review I saw.
@schafferstephen2 It's pretty much a low effort port on GBA. The team that made it complain that Midway set a deadline way too soon for them to accomplished so they had to release whatever they had by then. The result is a good sounding port that looks unpolish and plays like garbage.
Actually the SNES is missing all the MK3 stages except for The Rooftop and The Pit III, and you only fight on those two stages when you face the bosses or if you use the cheat menu code where you can select the stage before the match.
GBA vs SNES varies from game to game. Contra 3 is better on the SNES, Earthworm Jim is better on the SNES, etc Doom I think is better on the GBA minus the music.
Even with everything... the SNES completely sweeps away the GBA that supposedly had more power, since the latter's games are unforgivable... poor graphic and sound quality (not all), on the other hand the SNES always had excellent sound and cool graphics. 🤔

I choose Ultimate Mortal kombat 3 for the snes, there's no debate lol 😅theres way too many thing's wrong with Mortal Kombat advance, the super hard A.I. all the male characters using Sheeva's voice, the fatalities are all messed up, for example Kitana does her fan slice which launches the charcter in the air then they just explode 😳

@vintageceilingfans You kind of answered your own issue with the N64, short shelf life. I have a copy of the original MK, MK2 & Ultimate Mk3 in arcade quality on PS2 thanks to the bonus discs on the PS2 games. You just had to wait one more generation or play the games with loading on Saturn/PS1

Of all the Bad MK games in the series. This, Special Forces, MK1/3&4 on GB and if you think Mythologies fits in this category(I don’t). This is by far the Worst of them. I dislike this one the most because visually it doesn’t look too bad. Its everywhere else in which the game fails heavily.
MKA was extremely terrible. When I was in middle/high school how terrible it was. I didn’t get to see how terrible it was until 2009 when I saw Allie-RX’s review of the game. That was one of the first video game videos I ever watched on RUclips way back when.

Back then that game cost $60 brand new while the Genesis version was only $40. I was only tempted to play em cause both games had Rain and Noob Saibot as playable fighters in the game. Back then everyone either had the Super NES port or the Genesis port, I don't know a single person that own the Saturn version and the reason was no Rain and Noob Saibot.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the GBA is one of THE impossible ports. They jammed so much content into that damn game.

Kinda looks like the GBA has smoother animations with more frames and a few more sound effects. Weirdly enough, missing some sound effects too.

I had MK Deadly Alliance on GBA. It was probably my favorite fighting game on a handheld at that time.

You should do a review and comparison of the Sega Genesis port if ultimate mortal Kombat 3 game to the others versions.

If you are looking for a good fighting game on GBA, SFA3 and SSF2TR are the best, IMO.
Well worth the money if you can find them for a good price.

That was a game that should have been released on the N64... Too much was taken out of the 16 bit versions..

MKA was a lazy port. The GBA was more than capable of supporting a great port. Street Fighter Alpha 3 was proof of that.
