    She has an EGOT plus #1 hit songs, #1 albums, record-breaking concert attendance, plus Top Female Box Office star every year 1970-1979. Peabody, AFI. Medal of Freedom. Kennedy Center Honoree. No other artist even comes close to her achievements.

    She is/was a great singer, but what gets missed a lot is what a great actress or comedian she is. She clearly wrote/rehearsed the line about "being in any hall with the trouble I've had finding an apartment" and it was delivered flawlessly.

    Barbra never returned to Broadway (other than on her albums). I wish Barbra had at least produced a Broadway show so she could win a competitive Tony. This Special Tony is nice, but it's not a competitive Tony. She produced so many TV movies in the 80s and 90s. I would have loved her to produce a Broadway show or directed one. Also, it's amazing that Barbra became such a huge movie and pop star. There never was a Broadway performer who reached such heights. I don't even think there has been a Broadway star who has ever had a number 1 single. Bette Midler comes close, but she was never really a Broadway star until Hello Dolly.

    • @ningtaylor6186
      @ningtaylor6186 2 года назад

      The daily grind bores her. It's interesting tho, theater is now filmed and would align with her desire to leave something that lasts forever.

    • @tylergooding9743
      @tylergooding9743 Год назад

      @@ningtaylor6186 Well, that and those two initial Tony snubs really cut deep. I think that really lit a fire in her to make it big in the movies, and make her bigger than Broadway. She lost in '64 to Carol Channing for 'Hello Dolly', ok fair (. . . kinda), but to lose out to Phyllis Newman for Subways are for Sleeping? Does anyone even remember this performance or this show? No. But they DO remember Barbra's Miss Marmelstein in 'I Can Get It For You Wholesale.'

      @@zebra2615 she also wanted to make a movie of gypsy. I believe Tom Hanks was listed as one of the stars that fell through as did her movie version of Catherine the great. I don’t think we’re gonna have many more movies from Barbra and after the two Fockers movies, I think that’s a good move.

    "Star of the Decade" are you kidding me. Marty Ehrlichman engineered this with the Tony Blue ribbon committee so that he could market his client as having won the entertainment grand slam. Rita Moreno is still the only entertainer to win all four top awards , in competition, for performance. Star of the decade should have gone to Angela Lansbury or Gwen Verdon.
