As someone who played all the dragon age games before Veilguard I have seen enough to know that its not true to dragon age at all in almost every aspect. To somebody who is new to dragon age it may be a good game but all the people who waited 10 years for a dragon age game its sadly a big disappointment. Sorry for my bad english, its not my first language

@@galilea723Bro, this is not a Dragon Age game, stop pretending. If you'd played the others then the dialogue alone would piss you off, why are they speaking modern slang in what's supposed to be a dark fantasy setting?
Why have they made demons look like teddy bears?
I can go on and on and on.
It's essentially a good game for the right person but it's not a Dragon Age game.

@@mixedmitchell9178 The lore of the game is still really deep and the story is a direct sequel to everything that came before without dumbing the world down. I agree that it is a shame not all your choices carry over, but besides that, they do handle Solas and the elven gods well, so in that it is still very much a Dragon Age game. To be fair, all games have been very different, this one too, it doesn't make it less of a DA game imho. If they'd change the lore and ignored everything you knew about Thedas, sure, but that's not what they're doing. The world still feels like it's the same from DA Inquisition, the story plays like a direct sequel to that game even. If you're looking for a DA:Origins experience, that's not going to happen anymore, because that ship has sailed decades ago. Also, demons don't look like teddy bears and only some dialogue is cringey, but overall it's fine. It's not amazing, but it's not worse than Inquisition either.

Okay lets take this from the top.
"I don't think these problems exist, or don't to the extent that people say they do."
While its fine that you do not agree, your argumentation after this doesn't hold water.
"The art style, thats a personal preference m, its not an objective thing. You might think it looks like a pixar movie but the game itself is gorgeous."
The background at is good yes, however there are loads of problems that people have with the art style, and historically in Dragon Age this has been a big issue. The big one is the character artwork, The skin looks too smooth , the facial structure is exadgurated , and the heads are too big. The character artwork for all its look has been a pretty big down grade in their stylization and look as the game series has gone on. Qunari Have suffered this most of all as they went from Sten, (whom they did not have a complete concept of and for some reason were unwilling or unable to rig horns to) To the Arishok who was the ultimate realization if the Qunari look. They are held up as the standard that all Qunari should emulate from their more crag like facial structure to their large dominating size and presence. Inquisition and especially Veilguard have been backsliding on direction removing them from being their own distinct thing, to instead becoming a great value brand tiefling.
It is however yes. well optimized, that has nothing to do with the art style.
"The dialogue might not be God of War levels or Last of us, but in my 20 hours of playing, i've never encountered anything that seems out of the ordinary for Bioware because Mass effect 2 was so good we often look at Bioware through rose colored glasses. We think that there is this amazing dialogue theze amazing animations these amazing things but when i think of the mas effect franchise one of my biggest memories is running through the citadel and hearing my voice in ever single store..."
The dialogue isn't good though. It does read with that, there are too many proper nouns used in sentences within a single conversation. The same proper noun by different people at that. It feels stilted , unnatural and inorganic. Characters constantly do this with you and each other. This leads to an uncanny valley effect of the writing where you aren't in a party with what feel like real people, instead they mostly feel like a stilted , poorly written play. To hook this into the last critique as well, often times facial expressions do not match the tone or dialogue at all promoting an uncanny valley not only in dialogue but in the art itself
another general writing complaint is that the game does not actually give you options, your character is not YOUR character, it is Rook a blank slate character who actually has his own script divorced from any kind of player agency. All dialogues essentially go the exact same, Honest, gruff and sarcastic. Thats it, There is no renegade or paragon, there is no option to turn people away from your party there is only the narrow band of the game, your freedom of expression comes from How you look, what class you play and how you spec your character. That's pretty much it.
Another would be the watering down of themes, locations and issues within the game. Elves despite being persecuted against and being pushed out of most societies not only activly help you in your mission to kill the elven gods, they also apparently missed the memo of Solas' great gathering of elves and his vast network of liberation.
Tevinter mages? There is no mention of their proliferation of slavery throughout their empire as well as rampant uses of blood magic. You are never forced to recon with this and othe only example of slavery given is the Venatori.
Crows? Assassins who take in orphans and groom them to become contract killers who ensure that they stay loyal to the family at all times or else they are executed? No they are now written to be spicy latin batman. There is no greater rumination of the damage and fear they hold over Antiva.
Qun? The religious fundamental caste system where you are born into a specific role and THATS IT, well, it has eroded greatly to go from this jarring friction for any player to becoming more and more accepting to those outside their ranks. Nevermind their penchant for genocide.
"Now the last and probably loudest critique of the game that I have heard is that it is just some woke political agenda piece. And again I just don't understand why that is the case. People need to get over the fact that video games now let you put pronouns in it, just get over it its a video game. It doesn't affect how you play the game it doesn't affect your experience , get over it. Who cares."
This is an appeal to triviality at its core , despite the fact that people do care, from both camps mind you. I don't expect you to know all this as you are 20 hours in , but to not spoil; anything for you Taash is a HIGHLY problematic character. They are seen from people that don't like "woke agenda" in their game as nothing more than a prothlatizing character who only seems to exist to sell you on the "Woke agenda" this culminates in a very divisive codex entry that some could say is nothing more than woke slogans.
On the otherside of the fence you have non binary and transgender people splity some calling them as a good portrayal, where to others they seem like they are written as a strawman written by people who dislike trans to put all the worst aspects of online trans culture into a single character by making them as bratty and stand offish as possible. To some it seems to be nothing more than someone who activly deals with internal mysogany and actively dislikes the concept of being a woman with a banger line of "No one likes being a woman."
This also ties back into the art style. There are countless threads of people complaining that they cannot make a character with large breasts or butts in the game, you can only have at best a B cup and although I cannot find it right now I recall an article saying a Veilguard dev said the reason breasts can only go up to that size is "because to go any bigger it would require breast implants". This would be an absurd statement on two fronts. One, if top surgery exists complete with the option of scars, than it would stand to reason that the inverse would also exist, so why is that not an option? I don't have the answer to that other than it alienates women who have larger breasts and does not allow them to create a character that would be inclusive to their self image.
This goes also to taking previous characters and downsizing their breasts to fit this image of how they feel it should be, one of these examples is a characters that was outwardly sexual, flirtations and shows this by putting on display their hips and ample cleavage. Why would this be changed? To be completely honest, I don't know , I cannot give explanations for other people, However, paired with everything else it is not some great mystery why people have problems with the game.
The general consensus seems to be. This is a shit Dragon age game, but a pretty good action adventure.
Then again, you only have 20 hours in, give it more time and maybe you too will see the cracks. If not, I'm glad you are enjoying your time. However your assumptions that the only reason why people would dislike this game because they watch asmongold or have a problem with trans representation is largely off base with the majority of people and only serves to attempt to discredit any potential argument because either you enjoy it or it doesn't matter so people should shut up about it.

I played 70+ hours and i enjoyed it so all of the things people are criticizing about it is pretty objective. Well people can complain all they want it wont ruin the fun for those people who enjoy it anyway. Here is a tip you hate it dont buy it, if you are easily swayed by big name reviewers if a game is bad, dont buy it, if you are a person who is super sensitive to art style, non-binary gender (btw Taash is like a teenager to a young adult) don't buy it, if you will find stuff to complain about in every corner of the game don't buy it, I never had a problem with the dialogue, maybe im less sensitive on these things and yes the story is based on Rook so its less open ended in story.

Reading the comments you can see that EVERYONE is complaining about the supposed "woke agenda". It's ridiculous to think that in 2024 there are people who complain about having different pronouns and different OPTIONS in A FUCKING GAME. Nothing that appears is mandatory. There is only Taash's quest related to this, and if you want, ignore it. It won't affect the main narrative, which is very good.
For you to feel offended because a game has a neutral pronoun is simply ridiculous. Ignore the damn neutral pronoun and play the game before going around talking nonsense on the internet.

It's like you would go to restaurant and hear below dialogue:

I happen to love Steak Tartare! The analogy provided is not in line with the statements made in the video. A more aligned analogy would be a person goes to a restaurant and orders a cheeseburger hoping it will be amazing, but when it arrives they realize the toppings aren't to their liking. One could still appreciate that the burger was well prepared and perhaps someone else would enjoy eating it.

Im around 70 hours in and its been a lot of fun most of the stuff people complain are easily skippable and nothing in the game is terrible. The big issue I see in the community of dragon age right now are one, they are still trying to relive DAO and are always going to go back to DAO nostalgia however if you loot back and play DAO and play the gameplay its slow as f, a warrior would take 5 to 10 seconds to do a normal attack however the narrative is still impressive to this day. The second issue is that reviewers from the get go have tarnished the game before it even got released and their followers just rode along with what was said without even really giving the game a chance. I agree that Veilguard isn't perfect but its a fun and entertaining game that has reinvented the combat to a modern pace, adding both action and strategy to the game and provide a fresh take to the game hopefully they can still improve the flaws in Veilguard that is if there is still a next. Fianlly I would dare any big name reviewer to provide me a story base narrative in Veilguard that was so bad and unburable, remember story base narrative not banters or side remarks by companions.

I dont pay 70$ to skip everything i dont like and i sure as hell dont play a game of a franchise im a fan of just for the main story.

    • @DarkShotShred
      @DarkShotShred 3 месяца назад +1

@artinotsoparty the main "skippable" things are entirely optional - as in, you choose to either do them OR something else. Ie if "woke ideology" is your issue (then probably nothing I say will matter to you but I'll try anyway) then you can just play a straight white man - nothing in the game penalises you for doing this.
Taash's storyline is quite hamfisted so far, so that's the only section of the game so far that heavily features "woke ideology" that if you're a completionist you'd have to Soldier through. Unideal, but not dealbreaking. Inquisition's Sera drove me and most absolutely nuts, but most don't hate the game because of it.
Anyway, I know you probably don't care what I say. The game has issues as many rightly bring up, but is on the whole super solid. It's a step in the right direction for Bioware, even if the dialogue leaves a lot to be desired in terms of roleplaying agency, and it gives me hope for their future for the first time since Inquisition, which I thought was pretty weak.

    The Dragon Age games:
I've played every Dragon Age game and they all play different and they have all had their detractors.
All Dragon Age games are "woke" anyway and you can easily choose not to engage with it.
    Game settings:
This is one of the best optimized games I've played in recent memory; I'm running it on a RTX 4080 on
"Fade touched" Geometry settings (which is higher than Ultra) with Ray Tracing and everything else maxed on Ultra and it runs butter smooth in 4K.
The writing dialog and voice acting:
Some of it isn't that great, I find the story engaging enough but yes, some of the voice acting and dialog especially for a Bioware game is lacking
This is a legit critique, but it isn't as bad as ME: Andromedia. I agree detractors on this one.
    The combat:
The closed in arenas and awful camera are starting to annoy me and the absolutely abysmal lock on are probably the worse things I can say about the game.
The controls are great tho', with the movement feeling smooth and responsive.
Overall, I don't feel like I wasted my time playing it and I'm looking forward to going back and playing some more. Also, I haven't come across any serious bugs to speak of so far.
People need to trust their own opinions more than some loser on the internet that is rage engagement farming. (Or the reverse, overhyping a better than average game).
It think its a good time for anyone looking for a decent Fantasy RPG to play and you can drop 18 bucks on EA play if you aren't sure if you want to buy it.

A very reasonable video. This isn't the Dragon Age game I wanted. It is disappointing, but some of the negative reaction to it is just totally overblown, partially fueled by culture war nonsense. I'd rate it a 7 out of 10. It's fine. Just fine. And yes, the writing is mostly standard Bioware fare. Their dialogue has always been quippy, or at least since DA Origins. Remember, "Swooping is bad." That's Bioware's style. What has changed is that quippy dialogue has suffered over-exposure and gone out of style. Bioware didn't change; we did.

1:00 That's a personal preference. Yes it is, but the argument is that it is a deviation from other DA's and for many doesn't fit the narrative.
Also 90% of a review is subjective, so that's a really weird argument.
Also you seem to conflate, art style and visual fidelity.
Many games have been said are visually solid, but have bad/weird/unfitting art style.
It's a good one to understand the difference before you critique games or critique critiques.
3:50 "(dont let Asmongold...) ...tell you what you should think"
Just told others what to think by saying:
    2:40 "Just get over it"
4:00 "If you play it and don't like it that's great too"
Ok sure but why wasn't it great if reviewers reviewed it and didn't like it?
Funny thing is that some are saying that reviewers who liked it, didn't play the game or didn't understand DA-games.
    I hate all these takes.
People play the game and have an opinion about.
Now as a consumer try to find with which reviewer or view you glue with.
This constant discredit game is annoying. Why is your view better than Asmongolds?
Asmongolds views probably suit a good amount of people
    Your views probably do too
But i hate the "reviewers didn't play it, because i disagree with their views"-stance
I basically stopped the game after ~50 hours because i feel the combat is not my thing. Specifically no tactical camera and way to much emphasis on real time dodging and parrying.
Don't like the tone of writing either, it's so; "let's make sure everyone feels good" all the time.

Veilguard is not a masterpiece ofc but its very entertaining mainly because of the really superb gameplay and around 100 hours of total gameplay .It is worth the 60e ? No its not but even the best game of all time is not worth 60-70e most of AAA games have right now .
Also antiwoke right now is way way way more hysterical than woke , its annoying that i block at least 2-3 channels every day with almost exclusive antiwoke content ,i never saw so much woke channels when woke was at its peak not even a comparison . And guess what ,all those antiwoke channels they never see a movie,tv show or play a game . For example they say Amazon and GW will not make the Warhammer 40k universe because Amazon wants 40k to be woke , they are so ignorant they dont know 40k is the most inclusive scifi universe, they literally have every civilization represented to the most extremeley weird thing in terms of sexuality.

I'm about 60 hours into Veilguard and I can honestly say that both the positive and negative criticism I've seen can be equally valid. On one hand Veilguard is a very feature complete action RPG that has really good pacing, solid combat, good challenge if you want it, fun exploration, complex itemization, and a robust character creator and skill system that lets you min/max to your hearts content.
On the other hand Veilguard doesn't really live up to earlier Dragon Age games in either world building or character growth. The writing isn't good or bad, it's serviceable. Character growth and relationships aren't completely absent but at the same time they seem way too safe. Same with the dialog wheel™ choices. I would put the overall writing in a similar category of many modern JRPG's I've played. You are the "good" guys and they are the "bad" guys, exposition, lore dump, roll credits. Safe. At least until towards the end.
As far as the "woke" stuff goes; I'm personally really not all that triggered by pronouns on character creation. The tone of the game could be considered to be a bit too lighthearted at times, but it doesn't seem preachy. I've played some recent games where the writing was pushing an agenda so hard it was just nauseating. Veilguard doesn't generally do that. The character that gets the most attention online (Taash) is annoyingly unlikeable but that is mainly because of the angsty immature nature of the dialog rather than them grappling with identity issues. It's also a very tiny portion of a massive game that's gotten way more attention than it deserves.

I have played more than 100 hours with this game, and I can comfirm, the quality of the dialogue is really poor. Compared to the previous Dragon Age games and in general as well. I have a degree of writing techniques and literature and my field of studies were fantasy and worldbuilding. Also studied some linguistics. From a "professional" view, the dialogues are not okay. The lore, the main story and the base idea of the companion backstories are good, don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the game, it is a good game. But the writing from dialogue perspective is terrible.
And I think the woke critic is not well expressed by the majority, but the problem exists. Previous Dragon Age games proved that they can do LGBTQ+ representation perfectly. Giving the companions different sexualy, representing a transgender character (Rem from Inquisition), and yes, the personal dilemma in this topic can be in focus and can be enjoyable (Dorian, also Inquisition). But Taash's story is giving me a huge headace, because it is a mess of bunch of topics (moral, gender, ethnic, reliligous questions), with very few options for the players to give opinion about. Combined with the badly written dialogues, this can be a valid critic.
In the other stuff, I can agree with you. It is a good game. Nice gameplay, beautiful voice acting and sound design, good visuals, good story overall. Not gonna be my otp Dragon Age game, but a nice comeback after Anthem. Thank you for the video! 😊

I have finished this game entirely and my first playthrough is 87 hours. The game is not bad in general but it is the worst in the Dragon Age franchise, also it is bad in comparison in other titles with less badget and time. This is not what was promised , this in not what anyone will expect from a a game in 10 years in development and it never works when you try to scam people insted being upfront, none of this would of happened if they hadn't try that. Also it not about puting pronouns in the character creation or scars it is when push you one way in a supposed RPG, also you are not that deep in the game to witness it affect gameplay when it snaps you out of the fantasy. I will leave it to this Trans Man youtuber/gamer explain to you what is wrong with that aspect, B-Tier Mutineer, go check hes point of view on the game he perfectly explains exacly why everyone , including trans people, are against such potrail

I am half-way through the game. I think you yet have to encounter the Taash personal quest line. It is pretty much the only character and story that is completly out of place. I dont care about pronounce options or that you could became transgender with an optional early-game dialog, but Taash is written poorly. Period. Her character is obnoxious to stand and her pronounces are forced.
"tHe QuN uSe ThEy fOr SomE pEoPle aNd it fEeLs gOoD!". That is what is bothering Taash in a world that is about to be blighted into oblivion by some ancient elven gods. Yeah priorities. Constantly a "Yaaah" response, constantly acting like a child, constantly throwing a tantrum... I dont even know what they tried to achieve with this character. Annoy the f+ck out of the player?
I also find it bizarre how everyone is so inclusive about it. You are a grey warden from god knows where, but from Tevinter to Weisshaupt to Rivain, everyone is aware of pronounce and they are not confused about women wanting to be identified as "they". Like really? High fantasy medieval world with slavery, mindless monsters, evil gods and blighted dragons and everyone is fine walking on egg-shells about this? If Taash was an optional character, I wouldnt even mind it, but she is required for a good ending. It is down your throat and in your face from bioware. "Mimimi! You are to be inclusive about this annoying as f+ck character or you get a worse ending!!!".
Putting that diarrhea aside, the game hits the dark-gritty atmosphere. Looks amazing, has interesting characters (I like Emmerich, Davrin and Lucannis the most) and combat feels fluid and impactful. I would rate it 8/10, but as a dragon age fan, it feels more like a 6.5/10, because of forced nonsense, taken dialog options (you can only be good, emotional or annoying) and lack of builds. I would still recommend to buy it, but not at full price.

,, It doesnt effect your experience” ... you knw buddy, most people doesnt care about the pronouns, but they hate when its forced to you in patronizing annoying and stupidly written way, and since the narrative is very important part of the game, yes, it can effect your experience. You must understand thtas THIS IS NOT dragon age, even it should be, overall changed atmosphere, from dark fantasy to this colourful high fantasy, stupid dialogues (and i really cant understand why you cant see it) and one dimensional characters, these are the problem and even you dont see it for some reason, they are really there

After his big intro and the big words he has thrown around, i feel like he is the one that didnt play the game. Also, him saying that the dialogue isnt bad because we put bioware on a pedestal because of a certain game while the others werent great either....what the actual hell is he talking about. Just because other game dialogues of bioware arent great either makes Veilguards dialogue good? Make it make sense. If its bad, its bad. Doesnt matter if other bioware entries were good, mid or bad.

It's bad dialog from a legendry studio known for RPG it's trash level of dialog. if there is level for the dialog it's -100 of 100. we say that because we want games get better it's not toxic i guess people like you is more toxic for the industry than the people who want the game be better. SIMP culture is like a poison that killing games. you can't judge a AAA game with huge budget like judging and indie game or a game made by small studio like you doing here.

I’m new to dragon age , it’s an empty rpg, unless you enjoy the graphics and the combat and can deal with ugly ugly armor and such , you can play , it’s not a real rpg . The dialogue is extremely childish like a Saturday morning cartoon , you go shopping and feed birds, like a lot of lame stuff, woke stuff doesn’t matter, it’s the fact that tash is an annoying character,in a world where evil gods are blighting the populace, the tough dragon hunter’s biggest struggle is her mommy wants her to wear dresses and does it so passive aggressive it hurts the big tough dragon hunters feelings . It makes you dislike tash and not want to travel with her . this guy is being very dishonest and not clear in his review, no one cared about the pro nouns , it’s the barvs, it’s the lame , dishonest reviews aren’t helpful. If you are like me and really like RPGs and you are a graphic hound you will get some fun from the game, should this game have been made, no, is there a ton of wasted potential 100% . This game should of been much much much better . That’s the most painful part about it, you see how much potential the game could of had, then you listen to bellara whine , or people acting like an episode of friends is happening while evil gods rein down destruction . Whoever made this game doesn’t understand writing or RPGs very well at all , like at all

I did enjoy the game, but with a major caviat. Anytime i encountered dialogue, which I did not enjoy, I just skipped it. I think that helped a lot. The major issue this game had for me was that dialogue, which described the lore of the world, was amazing, but any dialogue that was supposed to be banter came off as preachy or felt like some therapy sessions. I felt more like a parent surrounded by children solving toy disputes than a team of professional mercenaries trying to save the world from a disaster. The whole thing almost felt like it was done by two teams. The environment looked spectacular, and the area designs and worldbuilding felt fantastic, but the character models looked out of place, and the puzzle design was downright dreadful and frankly insulting, also the atmosphere although trying to convey moraly grey situations did so with lighthearted optimism and with no conflict. Characters had nice banter whilst on missions, but any dialogue that happened at the Lighthouse had around 50% chance to either be about modern social political structure, or force you into a direction you did not want it to go. Also, for an RPG, if you take away levelling up that comes with skills, this game had no other RPG elements. I played two playtroughs, a good and bad. None have any influence on what happenes. There are only three moments basically that have any influence on the game. Choose the city that falls, which only influences 2 secondary quests, which explain what happened to the merchant. Which ultimately does not matter because you get access to the merchant stock via the black emporium. And it changes if the second to last boss in the last zone mission is blighted or not. That is all. In the end, no matter your choice, it is minrathus, which gets besieged. Second is your companion decision, which only influences the armour and pasive they get and has no outcome on what happenes. The same characters always die the same way.And third, in the last mission, you choose who dies. There is also one more decision, but the game litterally tells you what to do, quote: "Choose a companion, who is good at stealthily killing mages, and have their companion quest finished"... take a guess who that is.
I do not recommend this game to players that want to play a Dragon Age tittle, if anything, this felt more like an Action Adventure spin-off.
So what now? Did i also not play the game?

I reaaaaallly appreciate this video. I was very hesitant because all the big channel reviews.
The character design choices initially land with me, but I'm over that and just enjoying the game... I'm still not liking how my Rook smiles too much even during he 'stern' dialog option, and looks even stranger coming from a Qunari I made to look like the Arishok.
Also Rooks animation is awkward, has 2 poses: arms down looking like they have Imaginary Lats Syndrome or hands on hips
but overlooking those, game is fine. It works.

There's a non-binary person in this medieval fantasy world. There's a whole spiel about someone misgendering someone else. The character creation doesn't allow you to have really big curves. You can have surgery scars in this fantasy world that might have people transitioning through magic, but not through surgery. Sure there's much more in the game, but you can't ignore these things that were blatant additions of actually woke modern day culture wars.
Please stop being so dishonest about this stuff, you can still be positive about the game, while also denouncing these practises. I am very pro-LGBTQ+ rights, but this doesn't fit in this type of world and is litterally pandering to less than 1% of people, of whom half doesn't even enjoy being pandered to. In addition they're just pissing of more than half of the population by shoving it into our hobbies, who then only become more and more anti-LGBTQ+, which is then exacerbated by people being extremely dishonest about whether or not it's true that it's there.

    • @HyouVizer
      @HyouVizer 3 месяца назад

The scars complain is a double standard. Healing magic renews damage skin tissue and yet you still see many with battle scars anyways. Some don't like mages period and don't wanna be healed by them. Others may not know a mage that can do a sex change spell.
Real life example, you have bad sight, laser eye surgery can fix that. Yet millions still wear glasses or contacts instead. Reasons, either afraid of the eye surgery, or can't afford it.
Just cause their is a solution to a problem doesn't always mean everybody as access to it, or what to.

I'm not gonna review it as I'm not playing it of course but, at the same time, I'm going to express my disappointment as I would have loved a return to an origin of the series which was objectively the peak of it.
