It's a common thing with drivers in this city. They don't like to let big trucks merge or change lanes. Many truckers complain about it. The MTA has a unique way of dealing with this though. Typically nobody allows busses to merge into the lane after stopping at a bus stop. What they do is either block the entire lane to pick up/ drop off or when ready to merge into the lane again, they stick the front end of the bus out quickly forcing drivers to hit their brakes who try to pass them on the left. I beleive they're trained to do that.
I drove the Jersey turnpike once at night and it sucked so bad. The rest areas were shared so you had to move to the inside lanes to get to it which is a semi at night is no small feat.
Whenever I see a Big Rig looking to move over, I either speed up to get past, if there is room, and I can see he is waiting for me, or I back off a bit if he is ahead, and let him move over. The way I see it, he's bigger than me, and it's a fight I won't win in my little compact, and I've got better things to do than cause an accident.
New trucker here. Went through ny not to long ago and Immediately saw a difference between the rest of the country and that place. Had to muscle my way through. Not fun.
Okay well what I see is a trucker that apparently is a newbie and doesn't realize he's supposed to be over to the right, must be very frustrating for all the other drivers. Also driving very aggressively this would be a ticket in California.
I don't think any of them are trying to intentionally hit you, more like the usual big city drivers, they just don't want to let you merge in because they might lose 10 seconds on their commute to wherever it is there going🙄🙄🙄
And Stockholm in Sweden, where I do most of my deliveries are voted as the worst city to drive in in Europe comes nowhere near as close as this. Sure, I've had to assert myself a few times but never do four-wheelers try to push it as they do in this video.
Last week I got a load to CT. When I saw the load information I immediately phoned my dispatch. I told my DM that I will be taking a 100 mile detour around that sh*thole NY and he needs to add the miles to the trip and change the appointment time or else give the load to somebody else. To my surprise he said okay and all the other drivers do the same. I wish I would have stood my ground years ago. I refuse to drive through that place anymore. The company can easily afford to stop taking loads there or pay me a whole lot more. Every time I drive through there I risk losing my license. It's not worth it.
In both instances, I saw the vehicle behind the ones that tried to hit you laying back to attempt to give you room to pull out behind the vehicles that almost hit you. Why didn't you take advantage of those good samaritans? I drive a car and I look ahead and all around when I see traffic getting bunched up and I try to make room for big rigs.
new york drivers are very impatient, he see you there trying to get over but he want to be the big boss and say the hell with you, even risking crashing into you?
The passenger, in the van was pleading for his life, with the driver...after the initial, back off truck this my lane move. Why, because he was going to be flattened on his side, like a fritter....lol...and didn't want to be slope C on a triangle.
I drive a beverage delivery truck during the week and a limo on weekends, 90% of the time in NYC, is really though with all the dumb drivers, can't imagine how it is driving a tractor trailer. God bless you and keep you safe always.
Idiots like that are precisely why I refuse any loads to NYC or Long Island. This has happened to me several times. As soon as you threaten to call the cops, they don’t want to stick around. They just want what’s in your wallet. You’re left fixing any damage to your vehicle, and the extra money from the load is gone.
I'm not surprised by this , the drivers in NYC are known for their spectacular skills and kindness :)

What they do is either block the entire lane to pick up/ drop off or when ready to merge into the lane again, they stick the front end of the bus out quickly forcing drivers to hit their brakes who try to pass them on the left. I beleive they're trained to do that.
Really enjoy your videos. I can go places and lay around the house at the same time.
After seeing that I'll never complain about the traffic where I live ever again.
I drove the Jersey turnpike once at night and it sucked so bad. The rest areas were shared so you had to move to the inside lanes to get to it which is a semi at night is no small feat.
just cause your blinker is on doesn't mean we have to yield for you man.
Truck drivers have the same problem here in New Zealand
New trucker here. Went through ny not to long ago and Immediately saw a difference between the rest of the country and that place. Had to muscle my way through. Not fun.
Well, he is ahead of the rear bumper of your trailer. Yes they are still jerks.
I liked the way the Correction bus was the first to run the shoulder! 8:59
Okay well what I see is a trucker that apparently is a newbie and doesn't realize he's supposed to be over to the right, must be very frustrating for all the other drivers.
Also driving very aggressively this would be a ticket in California.
Time stamp for being in the left lane?
I don't think any of them are trying to intentionally hit you, more like the usual big city drivers, they just don't want to let you merge in because they might lose 10 seconds on their commute to wherever it is there going🙄🙄🙄
You have great camera work.
And Stockholm in Sweden, where I do most of my deliveries are voted as the worst city to drive in in Europe comes nowhere near as close as this. Sure, I've had to assert myself a few times but never do four-wheelers try to push it as they do in this video.
People act like that this down here in Houston, too. They're either not paying attention to the road or their surroundings, or they just don't care.
Hey man great video. As much as I don't mind the music, the music from those stacks would be way better. Great sounding rig.
Think I've said it before "the weakest part on a vehicle is the NUT holding the steering wheel.
C'mon man. The guy in the grey van was on the phone having a constructive phone call. After all, he's in construction!!!! LOL
new york drivers are very impatient, he see you there trying to get over but he want to be the big boss and say the hell with you, even risking crashing into you?
The passenger, in the van was pleading for his life, with the driver...after the initial, back off truck this my lane move.
Why, because he was going to be flattened on his side, like a fritter....lol...and didn't want to be slope C on a triangle.
We used to love to go to New York for the weekend. We would never go near the place now.
So in other words you have no idea how to merge into a separate late safely or legally?
The white van was going to let you in though🤷🏻♂️
Steve despite the four wheel nut that tried to run into your trailer you had good go pro shots of the city you were in then
Love these city driving kind of videos
Born and raised in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn, I moved to Texas and I will not run up on the Northeast corridor, not happening!
Interesting video and enjoy your camera angles too stay safe Steve.
I drive a beverage delivery truck during the week and a limo on weekends, 90% of the time in NYC, is really though with all the dumb drivers, can't imagine how it is driving a tractor trailer. God bless you and keep you safe always.
I feel bad for truck drivers. The merge to come onto east bound 495 is a nightmare for truckers. No one lets them in.
FSC Trucking, Loved here in England !
The sheer size of New York is mind blowing... dumbo drivers are always a problem wherever you are in the world.!!
