I'll take the time to thank the person in the white van behind that car not letting you merge on the first instance. They anticipated you from the get go and tried to leave a big enough gap for you while you guys were playing chicken in front. Anyone else notice this? Thanks to all drivers that have common sense like that individual. 😊

  • @Tagawichin

They have a different way of driving compared to anywhere else. Basically if they need in your lane, they just come over. If the get their nose over and you hit them behind the front tire, you caused the accident by not letting them merge. I didn't know this the first time I drove to Central Park, and was frustrated about getting cut off so often. Once I understood the local etiquette, it did work well and made getting around much easier. But in your case those drivers were just asshats. The last time I drove a truck into the city the old Tappan Zee bridge was still up. Exiting the city over the GWB was a personal milestone for the me. Front the cab of a Freightliner, the best view of that city is in the mirrors.

Here in Netherlands it's basically standard to drive like this. The merging vehicle has to ensure there is space, not the cars in the main lanes. Off course no one ever gives you space. You have to play chicken and see who brakes first.

Like that everywhere. When i pull my 40ft through the city, i had tos top at a tiny fuel station. Took me creeping out in traffic till someone stops. Then hold that up while you creep into the next lane till someone stops. The only reason i had to hold out for 3 lanes, my swing and tandems pivot point needed to avoid the pumps and their fuel station sign. Its a complete nightmare. However, the truckers will help if you help

Well yes and no. We have to make sure there is room and not just cut someone off, yes.... But the person in the main lane also has to make room for the merger. That's why we let 1 car merge, then you go, then the one behind you that wants to merge go and then the one in the main lane again and so on so forth... I've had my fair share of drivers, especially big cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam etc. Where you indicate, wait, slowly roll up, there is room to merge and they just put it along side you

I used to live in Brooklyn, my sympathies go out to you for having to drive anywhere near the city. At least it's not a daily drive for you though so things could be worse I guess lol. First time I drove in NY I got turned around going to the bus depot to pick up my now ex bf and I ended up in Bed Sty and talk about scared shitless, found 2 NYPD and told them to get me the hell out of there and they were kind enough to lead me straight to the depot. Yeah driving there is not for the faint at heart lol
I always loved how NYDOT puts out speed limit signs of 50mph it's like they purposely taunt people with a unachievable suggestion lol. We drove that parts of the same route at 2am and it took us nearly 4 hours and I had just gotten off a flight that had been delayed for 10 hours total so I was on a plane for 18 hours. Most of the delays were on the tarmac I really wasn't in the damn mood to sit on the damn road for four hours. People's lives were at risk at that point lol. Never figured out what the damn holdup was either. I got a friend who lives in Gansevoort and he is completely terrified to drive through NYC. All other times of his life he likes to present himself as some sort of badass tough guy. They were driving through the city going to Texas and the muffler fell off their van in the city and he was absolutely terrified and his wife told me he was shaking and in tears when he jumped out of the van to grab the muffler and threw it in the car and sped away. I asked him what happened to Mr tough guy that he loves to make himself out to be lol. Told him I drive through the city streets and I don't break down crying like a Sissy girl and I am a female lol. True test of toughness is driving through NYC. That's the absolute hair splitter of tough and the weak lol.
Yeah those 2 cars those assholes need to learn how to be a bit more patient especially driving in NYC. Your not ever going to get anywhere fast.

I hope someone calls Fasco Construction about his driver. His address and phone #'s were right on the door. Plus the fact the driver was talking on his phone. NY has a hands free law. Then at some point he took his hands off the wheel. Great camer work Steve. It's a common thing with drivers in this city. They don't like to let big trucks merge or change lanes. Many truckers complain about it.
The MTA has a unique way of dealing with this though. Typically nobody allows busses to merge into the lane after stopping at a bus stop. What they do is either block the entire lane to pick up/ drop off or when ready to merge into the lane again, they stick the front end of the bus out quickly forcing drivers to hit their brakes who try to pass them on the left. I beleive they're trained to do that.

Well, he is ahead of the rear bumper of your trailer. Yes they are still jerks.

Okay well what I see is a trucker that apparently is a newbie and doesn't realize he's supposed to be over to the right, must be very frustrating for all the other drivers.
Also driving very aggressively this would be a ticket in California.

I don't think any of them are trying to intentionally hit you, more like the usual big city drivers, they just don't want to let you merge in because they might lose 10 seconds on their commute to wherever it is there going🙄🙄🙄

And Stockholm in Sweden, where I do most of my deliveries are voted as the worst city to drive in in Europe comes nowhere near as close as this. Sure, I've had to assert myself a few times but never do four-wheelers try to push it as they do in this video.

People act like that this down here in Houston, too. They're either not paying attention to the road or their surroundings, or they just don't care.

Hey man great video. As much as I don't mind the music, the music from those stacks would be way better. Great sounding rig.

Last week I got a load to CT. When I saw the load information I immediately phoned my dispatch. I told my DM that I will be taking a 100 mile detour around that sh*thole NY and he needs to add the miles to the trip and change the appointment time or else give the load to somebody else. To my surprise he said okay and all the other drivers do the same. I wish I would have stood my ground years ago. I refuse to drive through that place anymore. The company can easily afford to stop taking loads there or pay me a whole lot more. Every time I drive through there I risk losing my license. It's not worth it.

In both instances, I saw the vehicle behind the ones that tried to hit you laying back to attempt to give you room to pull out behind the vehicles that almost hit you. Why didn't you take advantage of those good samaritans? I drive a car and I look ahead and all around when I see traffic getting bunched up and I try to make room for big rigs.

I drive a beverage delivery truck during the week and a limo on weekends, 90% of the time in NYC, is really though with all the dumb drivers, can't imagine how it is driving a tractor trailer. God bless you and keep you safe always.

I feel bad for truck drivers. The merge to come onto east bound 495 is a nightmare for truckers. No one lets them in.

Idiots like that are precisely why I refuse any loads to NYC or Long Island. This has happened to me several times. As soon as you threaten to call the cops, they don’t want to stick around. They just want what’s in your wallet. You’re left fixing any damage to your vehicle, and the extra money from the load is gone.
