I have a similar set of Snap On screwdrivers and I graduated from school in 1987,worked 2 jobs Shop-"N" Save and Walter's auto body! I wish I would have been able to stay at the auto place though. As soon as I went Butler Tires For less, I got a exact set of those in late 80's fall of 88' or spring of '89. Shows the professional man has a set of one of the best tools for the trade! Great evening and enjoy your night Dragboss garage family. Enjoy your weekend like I enjoy watching your videos!
Having worked at a transmission shop and past personal experience gives you a leg-up on the refresh. Working at a hospital gives you a leg-up as to how very important cleanliness is. Look forward to the continuation of your instructional video. And to the completion of the C-4.
Thank you Bill. I always believe that you have to be clean and organized to do the best job you can do. I try and keep the same mantra in life, one of the keys to success. Found an issues from Paul already, that I missed. Will mention on next video. Thanks for subscribing to my Grumpy PA channel.
Good stuff. Had one automatic apart in my life, a 2 speed Ford o matic. Cleaned it, replaced the clutch packs and threw it back together. To my surprise and others it actually worked fine. You could also push start the car with that tranny, something I had to do a few times.
With the direct drum, as we talked after I watched this video, that thick pressure plate goes on last, before the snap ring, not on top of the piston. A regular steel goes in the drum on top of the piston first, then stager the frictions and steels, thick top plate, then snap ring. "We" are always learning.
Yes Paul, thank you again for calling me. Like you said that could of led to the early failure of the clutch pack. Thank you for your time and expertise.
I used sandpaper to "deglaze" the steels in my C6, I think that's why at first startup it wouldn't move in gear like it was locked up. A couple whomps on the accelerator broke it free, it's still fine 20k miles later.
Right on my friend. Might be a couple days till I get the final assembly. I think I already have probably six other vids already made and waiting on other things.
Awesome idea using the drill press. After doing with and without a basket press, it's worth looking for a used one. Think I Paid 30$ on fleabay for mine. But always love seeing a different way of doing things. Thanks as always. Ps I hope all this transmission work is checked over by your girls.
Tim, the c4 transmission Can be found with 3 Clutch Disc's in a 4 or 6 Cylinder like used in pinto or Mustang II or 4 discs in most v8 Cars and 5 discs in some truck applications.
Spaghetti and meatballs plus I can watch Dragboss garage with the parents and the Old man loves it. My neighbors wife is going to be mad when I tell her that she is missing this watching Nascar. Their loss tomorrow is their day to watch. Great evening to you all and enjoy your work. Hopefully everything is battened down. I have 3 to 5 inch limbs down in the yard from the wind Tim! 😮💨🤔🤨
Yes, all good on the homefront John. I work today so I only had a ham and cheese sandwich. So work on my vids when I can. my wife told me it’s pretty windy. Zeus goes in and comes right back, he’s a Fairweather dog I can tell. I’m glad your family and friends enjoy my videos. Stay tuned brother.
@@DragBoss351Cleveland Guaranteed to do that! I hope that the wife will hook you up with some good food if she wants when you get home! Try and enjoy your night and I hope that your not too busy. Thank you for sharing your work and time with everyone! Thank you for serving your community and the good person that keeps you going is a priceless soul. God bless you all and thank you again! Will be tuned in ! 😉
I hate to say this but me and dad agree with each other now. You are now officially inaugurated in the "Jack of All Trades and Master of None"!. Great evening and enjoy your day today and tomorrow! We are restarting now.
That is funny, my friend. My dad told me to learn everything you can and I did. As you can see from my videos, I can do pretty much anything if I put my mind to it. But I will say this I’m not very good at reading a ruler. Those little lines give me all confused. Waiting till the next video coming up in a half to repair suture, my daughters stuffed animal back together she wants to do an operation so I said we could do it on video. Thank you for noticing my abilities, and I try to give others the same credit and or teach them what I can that’s how we all survive.
You get the front wheels three of four foot up in the air and something breaks in the transmission... the front end drops like a ton of bricks... I've seen it twice and it ain't purdy. Back in the 80's you could overhaul one for $19.00 if the bands were good. Clutches, Rings, Seals, pump bushing, paper n rubber and an all-out cleaning. Read somewhere Ford bought the two-band scheme from Chrysler for about the price we paid for Alaska. (first in the cruise-o-matic)
I will have to try that. What really works for me after making this video that little screwdriver I use. I don’t need that big one in there but thanks for the advice I will check it out.
It is amazing how strong the C4 is. Ford did a a great job on designing the C4

I've seen using 6 clutches and thin steels just makes for hot clutches.
Yes, definitely need high line pressure and cool fluid.
Pro tip put some Pine-sol on any stains on your shirts and it will take em out.
Great idea, I never knew that troy, more than one use there..
Thanks, gonna try that! ;)
Super Clean also does a nice job on stains, use it like a presoak, just spray the stains and throw in the wash works very well for laundry.

Cool deal Banger. I bet it made you smile. Push start like a race car ☺️

After I get my place made now that we are hooked up with food, we are going to start over and learn more! 🧐😉🙂😃
You will always pick up something new
Being a motorcycle guy we kick the steel’s around on the garage floor then wipe and reinstall, works great!

I just use 50 grit, sandpaper, deglaze, and put a unidirectional finish on it. Probably easier with your feet in your hands lol.
Exactly what I do. Great tip. Thanks much captain.
Great information! Always helpful! Ready for more!!
I’m working on it. Mike got so much going on so try to keep organized and focus so stay tuned.
Great tutorial so far,, I'll know what to re-watch if in I ever need to rebuild a C4.
Right on my friend. Might be a couple days till I get the final assembly. I think I already have probably six other vids already made and waiting on other things.
P. S., I am learning more about something here and there as you plug away with the car and the next project everytime.
Glad to hear it! Keep rockin, baby

Cool deal. I know the VB for those cars is not good for performance mods.

@@DragBoss351Cleveland can't believe they said that.he must be master of disaster.
Old saying, hold true.
That trans would live a Century behind a mere 500 hp !!
Right on Adrian, you are so right. Hope all is well.

Yes sir what goes up, must come down. Been there done that. I used to work in transmission shop in the 80s agreed. Thanks for watching nobody
I find it's easier to get that forward clutch pack diaphram snapring out with a good scribers pick

You should be able to rotate the piston if it's all the way in correctly. Well ok, just had to wait a bit longer and he said it.
Thanks for paying attention
If anyone else makes that tool I would use a bolt in the middle that you can chuck in the drill to keep it all straight
I believe I have a. C4 for parts
Well maybe get it rebuild it Ken, and see how it goes.
Looks good to me!!!!!
Thanks my friend
well, well; one more talent. never even thought of repairing them. stupid me
My dad always said learn all you can and do it yourself. The you know it’s done right. Yes you can do your own now.
@@DragBoss351Cleveland Yeah, thanks.
Would a 4 or 5 clutch drum require a different amount of clearance?
No, do not think it matters Tom
How much hp can a stock rebuilt c4 handle.
Probably without oil mods 500-550.
Thanks drag Boss looks like I asked the same question twice.
Have you studied Dyno Don?
About know about studied but made a video on his heads and intake
