It's very depressing when it says "peace is boring violence goes viral" or "who wants to watch people get along?" Because that's true about the media. No one wants to watch people be kind. And that hurts
Because that’s boring. People aren’t interested in peace unless there was vioence before it. Violence brings interest to people because they fear it. It’s simple as that.

Something I just realized: when you take a picture of the happy couple, the caption given is negative (“gross, get a room”) and so the couple get embarrassed-but not only does this affect the couple, it also affects the rest of the crowd, who think that if they get along too well they’ll be mocked and jeered at as well. By showing people what peace looks like, you are discouraging them from making peace
Something I’ve noticed in other play throughs is that no one ever notices when the couple helps the crazy square become more caring. This was one of the first times someone actually took a picture of that
I took the good pictures but was always discouraged. It was very sad. The original angry square eventually became happy bc of the couple's kindness, but by that point it was inconsequential. Even when things were turning to mayhem that very same couple went to protest for love and peace, but no one cared. And in the end they held a vigil and remembered all those who died in that massacre. And we take one last picture, and we don't even know how the news will frame it. Will they say its boring? Will they like the drama? I feel like its our chance at redemption at letting others see the humanity and loss.
This is meant to show what people are like these days, the circles screaming at the squares because one guy got scoffed at shows racism and toxicity which can escalate to violence
You guys, I am not gonna act like this isn't a problem, or that the world couldn't be more peaceful, but do you have any idea how bad it used to be? It's been getting better. Nowhere near perfect, but it's far better than it was 100 years ago. "These days" isn't an accurate statement at all, because while the world is bad, it's never been better than it is right now. Aren't y'all doing exactly what this game/video warns about? Assuming the worst about everything because of a small section that the media likes to publicize?

The most tragic thing about this could also be the fact that everyone was so blinded by their newborn hate that they completely forgot where did it even come from. I mean, the crazy square guy that started it all has literally been redeemed by the couple in the meantime when everything escalated and started falling apart. And that is something no one notices until he is killed.

I always thought of it as violence and protecting ones self or group through those means is one of the most basic instincts we have. It’s always a battle between humans as animals or humans as something more.
I know someone who literally vents all the time and has a hissy fit about something all the time because of social media and the news. It’s real unhealthy for them when they already have moderate stress in their real life. Plus they already overreact like an infant and can’t handle other viewpoints and opinions.
I've studied journalism, and believe me, these people KNOW what they're doing. They're so high in their ivory towers that they don't care about what affects anyone else.
It's hardly surprising how well this game held up. "Peace is boring, violence goes viral" is a great summary of most online behaviour, where the loudest and most aggressive view gets promoted, with sensible and smart getting ignored.
I love how the camera pulling back perfectly recontextualizes everything. It’s no longer you simply viewing these events, the game is calling you out. Peace wasn’t entertaining enough for you, so from the comfort of your home you showed what would get the most interesting reaction. Simply to sate your curiosity. It was perfectly within your power to walk away, but you didn’t. You did this. Are you happy with your choices?
It's funny, because my playthrough took something about 20-25 minutes because I didn't want things to escalate to violence, I only ever did so in order to progress in the game.
I love the message that this tells you. You show something viral and everyone copies it. However, once you present something negative, it slowly spreads and spreads and builds up until it explodes in violence. I also liked that you went to align the shot at the ending so the recursion was exactly in the middle.
I assume that the symbolism of the characters go as followed The heart hats: people wanting peace No hat people: undecided people The square with spikey hair: someone is mentally handicapped and is used as an exuse to further tensions instead of being supported. When the dude gets support from the heart hats, they change their behavior from getting proper help The circle with the fancy clothing: is the starter of all the chaos and I assume it means that the elite are willing to kill to either further tensions or have a warped view of reality. I got more theories on the fancy clothed dude but it's hard to put in words.
The fancy hat guy who shot the crazy square with heart hat may be a terror or assassin who is hire or order to kill someone, and led to anarchy and violence.
The fancy hat dude is probably who escalates it, whether on purpose or accident. It work’s either way, because let’s pretend that the square attacked him again, he shoots him because he’s scared. We got something the media can run with, and then that ending happens. If on purpose it does the same thing the media has a field day and that happens again.
I love how circle and square (the ones who love each other) start running away embarrassed but when the mad square comes in the circle just changes his expression until square still gets embarrassed
This is so relevant in these times. It’s something I’ve noticed myself. A lot of the media promotes negativity and violence while the nicer things in life go unnoticed. It gives a sense or dread in rough times instead of a sense of hope. Yes, the world has a lot of horrible things in it but there’s also so much light and love to be seen and yet that is seen as “uninteresting” or “boring”.

It's a normal life everyone's having in the village, walking or hanging out. Black hats become a fashion then end. THEN a square just hates in everyone, so most of them join the hate as the TV announces it, except the love couple (with a sign one). After a while, the angry square joins the love couple because he realizes what he did to the innoccent people. The man who started the hat fashion, takes revenge on the angry square. So now is a war with no scape, just violence between all them. Everyone is killing each other, JUST MURDERING/GENOCIDE/VIOLENCE. At the end, the love couple takes a look at everyone dead.

But I believe journalists, as naive as it may sound, should ultimately seek the truth and inform the people with the correct type of information regardless if their bias (if we’re talking news reports). But yes, some people will only seek what they want to hear.

It’s a message about gossip and the dark environment it can create. It feeds controversy which in return can create anger, resentment, hatred, disputes, vengeance and consequently an opposition between extreme ideologies which can lead to an escalation of numerous outcomes of massive conflict.
If you are the player, and you do nothing, you don't take any pictures, what happens? People just continue existing in peace. This is a hidden lesson in this game. The media and general opinions are what makes people hate each other.

Now the top hat guy was in the spot light and sure trends come and go but he then took advantage of the chaos and killed the one character that was miss understood who I guess started it all after what is essentially the tutorial teaching you how the game works but the chaos he started after words was a real chaotic evil thing to do

Yep, that's the point and also media is driven by media consumption. If we look at a very early form of media like people telling each other stories from the region or the past, then the stories about some people having a nice wedding celebration weren't told or didn't survive, the stories that were told and survived were the one about children getting eaten by a bridge troll on their travel to the wedding celebration. Media was always like this and people consuming media were too.

I really hope one day we can have a society that understands each other better and realizes that groups aren't bad it's specific people in groups that are bad. I have met so many caring compassionate Trans people and LGBT+ who just try to live there life just like I have met a lot of caring and compassionate conservatives. The media really likes to force people against each other and incite anger trying to use the slightest thing to incite violence, rage, and hate. The game "We Become What We Behold" does a good job of showing this. Not every Republican or conservative is homophobic, racist, and uninformed as some media portrays them as, and not every liberal or democrat wants to brainwash your kids (Both Sides do that and have done that since before any of us were born) or let every immigrant in (Every democrat I've ever talked too agreed it is an issue they just disagree on the ways to do it and the effectiveness of tactics) If you are reading this do not fall into the trap of assuming that 1 person outlines an entire group I struggled with this for a long time. Media really portrays every democrat as rich and diverse and every republican as white and poor when statistically they are extremely similar. I am not trying to spread hate here I am trying to show that if we as a society took a step back from media and news in general we would be happier, we would be more able to view each other as actual human beings with different and shifting views rather than threats or dangers. I am just so tired of all this garbage being thrown from both sides. I want to help people and I want people to be happy, I want us to try and understand and respect people. It is really hard to respect everyone and try to understand everyone but our society can't keep going on with this popularization of hate and anger. We need to think for ourselves, we need to understand others without just blowing off their points and views as being brainwashed or manipulated. I hope that everyone can try to be happy away from toxic media and understand each other some day.

It's true. But we all individually are also small parts of the problem. We would rather see viral conflict and issues instead of love and peace. Conflict makes us passionate. The player and all of us who payed it could have spent minutes or even hours taking pics of just random people in peace. But it wasn't good for us. And we feed into controversey every week or day

It's a normal life everyone's having in the village, walking or hanging out. Black hats become a fashion then end.
THEN a square just hates in everyone, so most of them join the hate as the TV announces it, except the love couple (with a sign one).
After a while, the angry square joins the love couple because he realizes what he did to the innoccent people.
The man who started the hat fashion, takes revenge on the angry square.
So now is a war with no scape, just violence between all them. Everyone is killing each other, JUST MURDERING/GENOCIDE/VIOLENCE.
At the end, the love couple takes a look at everyone dead.

Yep, that's the point and also media is driven by media consumption. If we look at a very early form of media like people telling each other stories from the region or the past, then the stories about some people having a nice wedding celebration weren't told or didn't survive, the stories that were told and survived were the one about children getting eaten by a bridge troll on their travel to the wedding celebration. Media was always like this and people consuming media were too.
Violence are always a big selling point in media, and I don’t know how to feel about that.

I really hope one day we can have a society that understands each other better and realizes that groups aren't bad it's specific people in groups that are bad. I have met so many caring compassionate Trans people and LGBT+ who just try to live there life just like I have met a lot of caring and compassionate conservatives. The media really likes to force people against each other and incite anger trying to use the slightest thing to incite violence, rage, and hate. The game "We Become What We Behold" does a good job of showing this. Not every Republican or conservative is homophobic, racist, and uninformed as some media portrays them as, and not every liberal or democrat wants to brainwash your kids (Both Sides do that and have done that since before any of us were born) or let every immigrant in (Every democrat I've ever talked too agreed it is an issue they just disagree on the ways to do it and the effectiveness of tactics) If you are reading this do not fall into the trap of assuming that 1 person outlines an entire group I struggled with this for a long time. Media really portrays every democrat as rich and diverse and every republican as white and poor when statistically they are extremely similar. I am not trying to spread hate here I am trying to show that if we as a society took a step back from media and news in general we would be happier, we would be more able to view each other as actual human beings with different and shifting views rather than threats or dangers. I am just so tired of all this garbage being thrown from both sides. I want to help people and I want people to be happy, I want us to try and understand and respect people. It is really hard to respect everyone and try to understand everyone but our society can't keep going on with this popularization of hate and anger. We need to think for ourselves, we need to understand others without just blowing off their points and views as being brainwashed or manipulated. I hope that everyone can try to be happy away from toxic media and understand each other some day.
