Sorry to hear you ran into problem of transportation to the border and border opening. Indeed Brunei have very limited public transportation. Ppl use their own car to get around. Hotel is also limited as not many tourist around to support the hospitality industries. Also Brunei just open its border and cautiousness of covid is still up in the air. Eventually we will open fully but in phases. But one thing we can be proud off is Bruneian hospitality and food. We will always welcome visitors with open arm. Kudos to my fellow countrymen for helping you guys while you are here. Thank you for visiting us.
Absolutely your fellow countrymen certainly did Brunei proud and inspired us! Thank you for explaining a little more too, over all very lovely experience :) 💕
I'm coming to brunei soon since I'll have a 24-hrs layover, sad really that I won't have time to really explore the place. I've visited Singapore, KL and Sabah before so like the family in the video I have some idea of what food and culture it may look like but nothing beyond just a general idea. I will try to make the best of it and hopefully get to revisit for real someday!
So many improvements and the food is awesome in tastes and abundance, the satay sauce is the best in the world! Poor in transportation as even most poor people can save up for a car, so buses and taxis are not plentiful. The people are beautiful in nature, as long as they do not get influenced by bad-natured tourists who can spoil their peace and friendliness, hence being less visited by tourists is a good thing.
Can i ask something, I will be coming to Brunei , UBD for one year research program, I have heard that public transportation is very poor and very slow. Do i need to buy a car ( but i will be at UBD for just 1 year). Any suggestion or has the transportation improved ?
@@Johnmomoworld Hello, in my view, transportation is still a bit poor even though there is a little improvement being done to it unfortunately. I would recommend if you could hitch a ride with your friend here and maybe you could chip in for the gas money or you could request for Dart service. its pretty much the same as uber
hey! i live in brunei and it’s so cool to see other people enjoying the country! i’m english but have lived here my whole life. sorry to hear about the transport issues. me and my family got in a similar position as our car broke down and again had to hitch hike back home. i think where you went to breakfast was thien thien - one of the best places for chicken rice so great decision there! the mall you went to isn’t really the only mall, it was the first one built and it is known as “the mall” or “the gadong mall”. cucur pisang (the fried banana) is huge here! your stay really highlighted the kindness of brunei so thank you! enjoy the rest of your time travelling!
Hey Charlotte this is all super interesting, thank you for telling me so much more really interesting about the food and the mall. SO cool that you have lived there all you life. Sounds like quite the adventure with the car too! :)
Amazed with your positive outlook in times of difficulties. Being a resident of Penang and worked in KL, my only trip to Brunei was 20 years ago, on a business trip. Good at least you all covered the least "city" people visited. Once bitten twice shy. We enjoyed your videos especially your lovely children.
Great video, my last visit to Brunei was around 35 years ago and I have very fond memories of the lovely people there. I retired recently and it's on my list of places to visit again. Thank you again for reminding me what an interesting place it is.
welcome to Brunei Darussalam! I'm glad every backpacker tourist enjoys the welcoming greetings and smiles from the locals. Im sorry about the travel from the malaysian border to brunei border was unpleasant and the troubles that you facing especially going back to malaysian boarders. AND im grateful someone saves ur family and ur time from long walk. i hope the memories with brunei people stays in ur heart.
You’ll always find help in Brunei and Although transportation is a huge problem for now, don’t be shy to ask for a lift or guides. Majority of Bruneians will be more than happy to provide 😇
Hi guys... As a Bruneian I don't think you guys tried our traditional food yet because you guys faced a lot of problems as you guys just came to Brunei.. when u guys come back to Brunei I recommend you to try to eat Ambuyat. Ambuyat is a traditional dish for us which was created during the second world war when the Japanese Occupation in our country. Hope you can come back to Brunei again❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing! I really enjoyed watching and sorry you had to endure so much! Brunei is actually on our list to go to over the next few months, so we'll see. Can't wait to see the next one!
Its interesting to see Brunei through the eyes of other people. Catherdral never crossed my mind whenever I looked up at The Mall's ceiling. Hope you had a pleasant stay here! May you meet good people along the way ❤
ah yeah, it was just my first thought when I walked in. I remember learning that cathedrals are designed to make you look up and the mall had that effect
Glad you guys enjoyed your short stay in Brunei. Your boys are so cute and energetic! And so sorry to hear about the transportation problems. Hope you will come again one day and explore more of our beautiful country 😊 You’ve got a new subscriber!
Wow, I really appreciate your Brunei travel experience. Where bureaucratic fences, warm welcome, golden dome mosques, traditional stealth villages, good food, great malls, cheering your beautiful boys I enjoyed every brief moment.
YAY so happy you enjoyed joining our family, Brunei has been so much fun 💕 and thank you so much for subscribing, excited to have you join our little big adventures
Glad that people are being kind & glad that you enjoy Brunei, if only I knew you were in Belait just the night before you guys left for miri airport the next morning, I would love to ask your family to stay at our humble home for free. Your kids are so cute btw!
Experienced Bruneian hospitality during the Hari Raya Festival in 2015, people opened their houses to everyone… even tourists . We had a host (who was a good friend back then and works in Brunei until now) throughout who kindly let us stay at her house and all and it was a lovely visit. Maybe I will come back soon!
Such a tough and lovely experiences were blending up together. And the kids they were look so cute and awesome, energetic, lovable, frisky as well. And i would like to say, nothing can beat them ever.🥰 and yeah.. in the end, you made it!💕
Syukur Alhamdulillah. Definitely we will always help those in need, no need for repayment. That's the only thing I can say about my country when it comes to helping, we are more than happy to do so.
I was in Brunei about 10 years ago and thought the same thing on the kindness of the people ! Very bizarre start to your trip with immigration- and lack of transport ! But you all got there and the kids seem to handle it fine !
Oh cool , i wonder how much it has changed in 10 years ! ? Yeah pretty crazy trip logistically, but its genuinely these kind of travel moments that make us closer as a family 💜
Never been to Brunei but looks fun. I didn't know they have the biggest stilt village, interesting. Glad all works out well at the border....thanks to those kind people 😊
Very happy to hear you and yr family eventually able to visit Brunei. Sympathize with the difficulty at this covid period. Thanks a lot for sharing yr video n experience. Wishing yr onwards journey be peaceful enjoyment especially the kids. A little bit longer would able to explore more for the kids. Selamat......tke care

There's limited public transportation and as someone who is living here for already a quarter of my life. I'm still discovering stuff to do in Brunei. Sunrise here is surprisingly a sight to behold and scuba diving is also good as well if you're into the marine life and old remnants of the WWII like shipwrecks and you could literally see the interior of the ship P.S: there's a pizza called honey garlic chicken and I've just known that it was made here in Brunei. WHAT GIVES
haha, thats nice to hear, our channel randomly tanked recently, good to know RUclips is sharing our vids - sorry if it got annoying though lol I've heard great things about the Scuba and want to go back when we have more time just for that!

Thank you to Azman for his generosity, how far is the trip from border to capital? It always interesting watching trip by land from Malaysia's border to Brunei /Singapore/Thailand . Aside from Brunei's own signature foods, I guess the food is similar to Malaysia, but of course with their own unique version. Wow Hudson, start early practicing/preparing himself to be future great `photographer' while exploring the world! Go Hudson!! 👍

Hello, welcome to Brunei. Love to see that your enjoy travelling and having a nice meal with your happy kids. I'm hoping to see u guys can come here again explore more nice places here. Actually Brunei have four Districts, every District have their own interesting places and foods. Let's see whats next in your travel journey blog. Take care alwys guys🥰👍🏼
as a Bruneian, I think what makes Brunei very friendly and open to strangers is that we're quite a small population.. generally, in a place where there's high population, people tend to not care much about others, especially if it's a very busy area..here, we're quite chill and laid back, although can be abit strict with some things related to Malay Islamic Monarchy, but other that that, we are very friendly to people and quite caring to others.

Hello the backpacking family I actually live in Brunei and my name is syahmi and I know where all the places in Brunei is so I hope you enjoy your journey to Brunei
really happy to see some Bruneians had helped your family during the journey! kudos to them. Thanks for showing the Laksa. I have always been biased to Moms Laksa in Kuching as a bruneian 🤣 and for chicken rice, i always take them plain (just with the soy sauce bit that they come with) . next time perhaps you can try C.A Muhd restaurant's Mee Mamak. my personal fav aha. thanks for the awesome video. bisai2 (how some bruneians usually say take care)
Thank you! 🥰 and yeah, our main regret is not having more time to dive - really wanted to, they have some of the best untouched reef and loads of shipwrecks. Hope you get to go
Wish we couldve have done more for your experience here in brunei and try out more traditional food we have to offer.. please do come back when u can..
Hy.. thank for visiting brunei.. yeah.. in brunei public transport very limited.. majorities in brunei we used own car.. you can also install apps DARTS as well.. its like GRAB but in brunei version.. hope to see you soon..
Thank you for coming to Brunei darussalam n very big thanks for promote our country ..yes I had seen alots of tourists had an issues with public transport here...for taxi only can get at the airport..for buses it at town side..as you know we local don't really take any public transport just like what you had been through..only foreign worker knows well where to get buses...even my uncle had a short trip working here get to paid my dad as a driver to send them anywhere they need since he also realized he barely can't see any taxi pass by ..I think next if you come here again better book a transport from the hotel you book to bring pick you up..or call local grab..easy for you n your kids to travel
@@TheBackpackingFamily your very lucky to meet such a wonderful ppl here..I'm Soo happy you found them n give a hand to help..I felt very sorry seen these kind of incident happen ..that why since local know how hard to get taxi or public transport ..some local make a overtime work become a Uber..we had it here to ..so hope you will get a contact next time for a Uber to bring you travel any place you want to visit with your kids..
thank you for making these video. To my Bruneian brothers and sisters, please support this channel and hope she'll come back again with zero problem. Inshaallah
This is a good lesson to people wanting to visit Brunei. Unless you have organised transport, you are better to enter via Bandar Seri Begawan airport or via Labuan ferry. The cheaper Miri flights by Air Asia are probably not the answer due to time lost travelling by multiple different buses / taxis / hitch hiking. Ask someone from Brunei, they will recommend Miri entry because at 31cents per litre for Diesel, it’s easy to get family to come pick you up.
Pros and cons. Miri was definitely cheapest to fly to for us so on balance we decided to do it this way. Definitely a fun and strange experience :-) ❤️
As a brunei local , the border closes 2 hours due to friday prayers . Other else than that , i hope you and your family come back to brunei again . I really reccomend visiting our other districts and maybe see the more foresty vibe of brunei! ^^
For some reason it also closed early (at 3) on the day we went - we aimed for 6, but turned out it had closed at 3 anyway lol. Forests sound beautiful and would love to dive too!
Im shocked that many foreigners suddenly came to brunei and give many positive feedbacks, not that I hate it but it is suprisingly wholesome :D Edit: no way your first laksa is Thien Thien, it's the best laksa (imo) in brunei
Hey, I think I saw you guys at pasar malam considering Brunei is such a small country. As you brought your children on your journey, I thought you were expats so I didn't really bat an eye. I was wrong and you were tourists after all! I'm so glad this was the outcome but quite sad that you had to walk between borders, for us it is quite unusual for someone to walk between the borders since we know the border control posts are far apart and blistering hot with no shades. Edit: Forgot to mention what a cheerful and happy family! Thank you for visiting! Edit 2: My advice for others is to go to respective bus terminals of each country and ask if there are any planned bus routes between the countries. Things changed during covid and travelling isn't the same as it used to be.
oh no way, thats so funny! Wish we had met 💜 and thank you for such a lovely encouragement too. They said there are no buses at the moment, but they hop to get them running in a few months
Well come To Brunei Darussalam i hope you had a great experience and hope you would come and visit again . with the pandemic going around we do apologies for some of the rules which may have hindered ur travels .
Thanks for the informative vlog. Just a question, On Fridays, will the checkpoint at borders be close during prayer time ? If yes, how many hours will be closed ? Planning to drive to Brunei, your comment will be very useful for me to plan my journey.
Hi , yes it does close for between 2 and 4 hours depending a lot of things I'm not tooooo sure about. I think it is around mid day, so maybe try to head there in the morning at opening time - But I'm not super sure, maybe call the boarder in advance :) they do have an office. Hope you have a great trip 🥰

Hi Yazid! WOW so lovely to see you on here 🥰 No problem , we had no idea it would turn out so difficult and we are so grateful you even took us to town 🥰
Went to Brunei and the only huge problem I faced was transportation. Taxi was so expensive and definitely not always available. Buses were filled with foreign workers - surprised me😝. Indonesians ended up become my friends in the bus - very nice kind Indonesians. Overall I love the peaceful surrounding of the capital during the night... the next time if I happen to land in Brunei, I will make sure I have a contact ie.friend there to help me get around Brunei from point A to B to C and so on...and I am dead serious😁!!
Did you enjoy my country? Thanks for saying good stuff to my country 😀 and I know there is a problem in transportation to the border and when I was going to sarawak it was hard and my siblings has to take 3rd dos

Hello the backpacking family I actually live in Brunei and my name is syahmi and I know where all the places in Brunei is so I hope you enjoy your journey to Brunei
Loved it so much, you have such a lovely home! 💕
really happy to see some Bruneians had helped your family during the journey! kudos to them. Thanks for showing the Laksa. I have always been biased to Moms Laksa in Kuching as a bruneian 🤣
and for chicken rice, i always take them plain (just with the soy sauce bit that they come with) . next time perhaps you can try C.A Muhd restaurant's Mee Mamak. my personal fav aha. thanks for the awesome video. bisai2 (how some bruneians usually say take care)
yeah they were so kind! ️❤️ ooo maybe one day can try your moms laksa ️❤️ nothing beats moms cooking
Fantastic video! I really want to go to Brunei some day. Heard the diving is great too.
Thank you, would love to , and I think the people made it a special experience :)
Hy.. thank for visiting brunei.. yeah.. in brunei public transport very limited.. majorities in brunei we used own car.. you can also install apps DARTS as well.. its like GRAB but in brunei version.. hope to see you soon..
thats really handy thank you 💕and thank you for watching
Yeah the transport was tricky, but the people made it such a happy visit :) was lovely to show our children how kind your people are :)
Thanks for the lovely comment and showing the world about Brunei.. Wonder how you manage backpacking with kids? :) Just Awesome..
Thank you so much 🙂 It is crazy at times but we love it so much! 💕
If only Brunei could improve its public transport so that people dont have to walk all day. Glad there were many friendly locals that helped you guys.
Love your video. I have the same situation like you when we cross border to Malaysia with my 3 kids. But overall it's lucky to meet all kind people
no way, it is such a crazy setup, glad you met lots of lovely people too
Thankyou so much for visiting our small country.. 😍
Our pleasure! learned a lot about kindness 😍
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video n for showing your experience getting into Brunei n enjoying d city.
My deepest condolences for d demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

You're welcome- we had a lot of fun travelling in Brunei ❤️
@@TheBackpackingFamily any plans to go back here? hehe
Hats off to backpacking with 2 kids in tow and welcome to Brunei.
Aww thank you!!! It gets a bit tricky at times, but mostly awesome and always worth it 💜
It’s such a great feeling to see you and your family experience the Bruneian tourist life. I truly miss travelling there 😁
Hey Harry, so happy you could join in through our channel! one of the biggest reasons we have it 💜
Hope you enjoy your stay in Brunei...
we really did, very love filled ️❤️
@@TheBackpackingFamily Yea. At the current phase, outgoing from Brunei, the border close at 3pm. While entering Brunei, the border close at 6pm.
A part of you guy unforgettable trip. today is mid autumn festival, you can try to find the mid autumn event around your place
oh wow thank you for the tip!!! 💕
Im shocked that many foreigners suddenly came to brunei and give many positive feedbacks, not that I hate it but it is suprisingly wholesome :D
Edit: no way your first laksa is Thien Thien, it's the best laksa (imo) in brunei
aww i really loved it 💕
as a Bruneian, i humbly welcome you guys to our small country 😀🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Aww thank you, we feel very welcomed
Country of Peace :) Loving it!
So peaceful 🥰
Hello and welcome to our country ! I'm glad that you and your family enjoyed while being stayed here. Hope one day you will come to visit again :))

Aww thank you so much, that's really kind ♥️yeah he's such a sweet little camera man, love some of the stuff he gets 🥰
As a bruneian, I really hoped you had lots of fun! Anyways, thx for visiting our country

Welcome to brunei ...
Thank you so much and thank you for subscribing 💕💕💕
Went to Brunei and the only huge problem I faced was transportation. Taxi was so expensive and definitely not always available. Buses were filled with foreign workers - surprised me😝. Indonesians ended up become my friends in the bus - very nice kind Indonesians. Overall I love the peaceful surrounding of the capital during the night... the next time if I happen to land in Brunei, I will make sure I have a contact ie.friend there to help me get around Brunei from point A to B to C and so on...and I am dead serious😁!!
haha yeah, good idea, the transport is just too tricky, be good to have friends there! 💕
Rather than taxi we usually use uber or buses. 😁
Did you enjoy my country? Thanks for saying good stuff to my country 😀 and I know there is a problem in transportation to the border and when I was going to sarawak it was hard and my siblings has to take 3rd dos
We really loved it thank you ❤️ To be honest the border was strange
