    I considered this, and ended up with a mk7.5 Golf R. I always used E5 fuel and mix of Race and Normal mode as a daily, and was getting a solid 30mpg. When I was dropping it off to sell it. I drove in eco mode from Scotland to Derby and got 47 mpg. Now because of the interest rate rises, I can't even get a bog standard A3 for the price I was paying for a Golf R lol

    Had as a company car for about 18 months 18 reg mk 7.5 (digi dash is a great feature on these). The only comp car I really didn't want to give back (had an 17 plate a1 petrol that was also great fun, 17 plate a4 diesel that was nice inside but a bit meh, and a 67 plate Q3 which got the most attention from the opposite sex but was boring drive and dated infotainment).
    Awesome daily car, effortless switch round town and motorway runs. Best bit is bursting arrogant bm and audi drivers who aren't expecting you to beat them off a red light. If you put your foot down while in 2nd it really does feel quick..
    Miss this and back in the market for one, haven't had the same feeling in any car since letting it go..

      I’m the same. I have test drove a few cars, I was thinking either a Leon FR or GTD… test drove both and the gtd was just nothing like anything else I’ve driven. It was mental. I’ve been in faster cars and they still don’t feel as fast I don’t understand it. Don’t know if this one was modified, but it was such a fun drive

    Nearly bought one about 3 months ago. 17 reg, 15k miles. Garage never answered any calls so couldn’t go and see it or book a test drive. So then got in contact with a garage with a manual 17 reg bmw 220d m sport, which has every option minis pro nav, also on 15k miles. So happy I went rwd, just makes the slightly boring diesel engine more enjoyable than my dads 7.5 golf gtd. not sure if I should have gone auto now though but I’m happy with what I’ve bought and I think I would have been happy if I had the golf too. But the bmw definitely feels higher quality than the golf and doesn’t have issues like knackered water pumps at 40k mile, leaking boots that turn the spare wheel well into a pond etc

    They're not direct rivals but this or a 320d/420d?? I think the bmw is more fun. Golf probably slightly quicker down a back road but a bit boring screeching around roundabouts where the bmw goes a bit sideways!!

    I've got a golf sv 2 litre diesel 150 remapped to 200bhp. Enough power for overtaking but wouldn't call it a performance car. Saying that a gtd would be a lot more fun to drive than my car. I get around 50-60mpg on a decent run

      @@ParagonCarsLondon interesting. I have a GTD stage 1 and have raced the ST fiesta stage 1 and they usually nudge ahead based on weight. So can't work out how this is standard but quicker? Have you actually checked it's not a flashed ECU?

    The GTD is cool in its own right, but I don’t understand the point. I have an MK7 GTI with a simple $500 tune that makes 321hp and 351 lbs./ft of torque and I’m averaging 34 mpg US (41 mpg UK) and I typically have a blast to well over 100 mph on many drives. Mechanical LSD and Golf R brakes too. It’s the perfect performance to fuel economy balance. With the GTD, all you get is economy and forgettable performance. You gotta love diesel’s over everything else I guess.

    • @scitec717
      @scitec717 9 месяцев назад

      Agreed, I think some in the UK are willing to have the GTD for the little extra mpg, but you can't beat the the sound of petrol GTI exhaust note and dsg changes and like you say a quick remap and you making some real good power figures
