I made this today. I sweated the leeks for well over 15 minutes. I had three carrots that needed using up so I added them. Absolutely delicious lumpy soup as I have not got a blender. Thank you. I shall make this regularly now.
This is horses for courses of course and is in no way meant as a criticism but i prefer my leak and potato soup even more simple, dice the potato and leek, add to a pot, cover with vegetable stock, cook until the potatoes are cooked, season to taste and enjoy. As you can probably tell i'm not a fan of pureed soup or adding cream to it... i prefer to taste the lumps of veg after they've had time to soak up the stock during the cooking process, eating pieces of leek and lumps of potato along the way is simply amazing and the way soup should be. As for adding chicken stock to a vegetable soup, i've never worked out why some people do that but that's maybe just me... as the advert used to say "pea and ham soup from a chicken".... maybe i am missing a trick but i doubt it'll ever be for me 😉
Lovely comfort food. My dear old mam used to make tatie scones every time she had leftover mashed potatoes. Hot and slathered in real butter yum. She also used to knock up some fantastic cheese and chive scones in summer for lunch. Always used to have them with a slice of cheese on top and slice of tomato out of the greenhouse happy days
This brought back happy memories of my lovely mum who used to make tatty scones. The soup looked so tasty, I've never made tatty scones to go with soup but can't wait to try these Mand, thanks for sharing.xx
i made baked apple and custard for grand kids, they never seen it before but liked it, especial with the currents and raisens inside with honey, then a good covering of custard... i dont see many making this dessert anymore.
I usually add a bit of water to the leek and butter mixture, it stops the leeks burning and when the water has evaporated the leeks are lovely and soft
Homemade potato cakes as we call them in Lancashire or tattie scones as you guys say are just brilliant. We often make extra mash potato so we can knock up a batch. They are delicious toasted with good butter. Your soup recipe is almost identical to ours, however due having to use it, we now do potato, leek & broccoli soup. Nice to see Raymond Blanc agree it's nice. Top vids guys.
i love food like this ,good hearty healthy stuff,my mum is a soup queen and loves making it for us.she,s 93 and still going strong .soup looks good , your hubby is a lucky man😀
Yum Amanda, I love leek and potato soup and I was going to make some for tea tonight but I’ll put bread with it. I made tatty scones for my son and his family when I was there at Easter. I’ll make some Damper (good old bush bread) so my grandson can make it. He also wants to make cinnamon scrolls and chocolate chip biscuits etc. sir guess we’ll be busy today.
Oh lovely another soup! I agree about cooking the leeks. This week I made the Chicken soup recipe of yours (second time) I got a bit behind and the leeks had a lot longer than I had planned and I am sure it made a the soup even better!
Love leek and potato soup, Will definitely leave the leeks to soften for 10-15 mins. Never had a tatty scone so will try those too. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your lovely good old fashioned recipes. I bet you nanna was lovely xx
Me hinney a little fennel in that soup would do wonders pet 😂😂🎉. Love the potato farls . I love them topped with a fried eggs and some Worcestershire sauce with some brun ale and a beetroot salad with salad cream 😂
Hi Mand and Ian, absolutely adore both your channels. Your cooking is amazing, the food me and my husband really love to eat. Such wholesome food. Beautiful dishes you both cook - and that leek and potato soup with the tatty scones - absolutely divine, to die for!! ❤️
Oo your soup looks gorgeous mand leeks are on my list this weekend even though it’s hot I could eat a bowl right now , my gran used to make us tatie scones but she called them potato cakes , thank you , loved the blooper at the end 😅Amanda xx
Hi Mand your soup looks amazing! That's exactly the way I make mine I will definitely be making tatty scones at the weekend day hi to Ian your mate John in stow on the wold Cotswolds
Top tip for washing leeks, taught to me by my chef ex, keep the root on, cut the leek lengthways into quarters and the root will hold the veg together while you splash it under the tap 😊 then chop off the root and off you go
As a Scot myself, it's great to see more and more people appreciating just how delicious Tattie Scones actually are. Thank you for making them and the soup looks absolutely delicious. x
Tattie scones are so good, and easy to do. I sometimes add other things, which is probably heresy and means they aren't really tatty scones anymore. Scallions, grated cheese, ham or bacon, chopped bell peppers, tomatoes etc
Hi mand. That looks delicious I’d love a bowl of that now,it’s been raining all day here in South Wales I think I’ll have it tomorrow and the tatty scones. Love Marilyn xx
Not made leek and potato soup in a long time, I usually make a veg stock from scratch when I do though. Stock cubes are just as good, depends how much time you have. A suggestion for you, A tomato, red pepper and red chilli soup.... Not come across tatty scones, must try 😊
Love potato soup! My mother-in-law used to make a variation without leeks, but she thickened it with browned flour, which gave it a lovely toasty flavour. Do you like your knife? It looks big in your hand, and maybe not all that sharp?
My partners fav soup, i tried to make it once and used a Aldi stock cube that made it taste way too salty, will be trying again using your way. I had a thought what about manchester tart
Love leek and potato soup. Thanks for the tip on giving the leeks a bit more love! That's where I've been going wrong! And the tattie scones look amazing! Another great recipe. Love you and Beddies channels. Alan x
It always makes me laugh 😂when people do an authentic "granny's," recipe and then add loads of black pepper - as you rightly said our grannies wouldn't have used black pepper also although granny didn't have cream to put in soups she would have used the top of the milk which was creamy - apparently when my mum was young she and her twin used to fight over the top of the milk for their porridge - actual cream was a luxury and the top of the milk was the next best thing
Watched you making tattie scones today . I've never made them before (how odd) and my partner's a Scot and said his mum used to make them. Anyway, made them and will definitely be making 'em again. Thanks
I love your videos. And I LOOOOOOOOVE an English person cooking TATTIE SCONES! I’m so happy…..they are the most delicious things. People please do try making the tattie scones. Us Scottish were brought up on them for breakfast x The only criticism….and I mean only (and to be fair it’s just me being pernickety)…..is they are slightly too thick. To be proper tattie scones they need to be a bit more rolled out. Ps…..I’ll order my own taxi thanks 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sorry can’t help myself but apart from that amazing. Ps love your videos so helpful ❤❤❤
❤❤❤
My favourite soup ❤

Can just imagine them tattie scones with a full english, much better than hash browns.
