      FairPoint but her music is really good and that's the part where it should be like her vocals are amazing she has phenomenal vocal control on a very crazy level compared to other artists
      She writes all of her songs very well she's a top-tier performer her music videos are very creative and well put together
      The way she blends different genres of music and time periods of music together seamlessly is also amazing like her art in general is just phenomenal

    8:24 one day we as a society gotta address that the expectation that women have to serve looks, vocals and choreo to be considered talented or interesting is misogynistic as hell. I’ve never once seen anyone be disappointed a male artist isn’t dancing but, as always, the expectations for women are in another stratosphere. especially for black women because, like you said, they’re giving more than just twirling around and it’s because they HAVE to and it shouldn’t be that way and I’m over it

Only gay/queer male artists achieve this. It's not entirely about misogyny but it's also about holding men to very mediocre standards.

      @@chinaplzdotcomShe said the stalking and creepy behavior of literally showing up to her family’s house, following her around, harassing her, etc. is NOT okay or normal behavior. And she’s right, that’s scary and weird. She said that they need to stop, and that she feels unsafe when they do that. How is that “policing” behavior and not simply setting a boundary of “hey, this isn’t okay with me, stop doing it?” The definition of setting a boundary is establishing limits for how you want to be treated by others, so she is quite literally setting boundaries, not “policing” people’s behaviors. Maybe instead of criticizing a woman for setting boundaries, we should be criticizing the people that think it’s okay to follow celebrities around, to show up to their family’s houses and harass them, to harass celebrities, or to stalk them.

    Ok so just to clear this up entirely, Chappell absolutely did not vote for Trump! She’s a far left leaning girlie meaning that all she was saying was she didn’t feel comfortable endorsing (but was still voting for) Kamala because of Kamala’s support for Israel and the democratic parties overall very loud silence regarding trans issues and individuals in the run up to the election. Let’s not get that twisted !!

    • @deevasquez1171

      Well she must’ve slow because EVERY presidential candidate HAS to support Israel wether they do deep down or not, the alternative to Kamala was always far worse for trans people and Gaza, her expressing her dislike for Kamala when trump is planning to do 100x worse for marginalised communities shows her ignorance.

    • @katiec8039
      @katiec8039 9 дней назад +27

      @@deevasquez1171 So what you’re not acknowledging here is context. Chappell never outright expressed a dislike for Kamala. She was interviewed for an article (in which she explicitly stated how proud she was to live in a time when a black woman was running for presidency) and during the interview, she was asked if she felt pressure to endorse a candidate, and she gave an honest answer. That’s all there is to it. Her words were then subsequently taken completely out of context, leading people to label her a Trump supporter, which she later clarified.
      Her stance is that she supports a free Palestine and could not morally endorse Kamala because of Kamala’s position on Israel and no, Chappell’s point was not about ignorance but about holding the U.S. accountable for funding a genocide that has led to the slaughter of thousands of innocent people. Her take was clear, nuanced, and anything but uninformed.
      If you’re comfortable living in a world where we keep quiet and simply accept the options presented to us, that’s your choice girl! However, many of us refuse to settle for that and will continue to challenge these systems. And that certainly doesn't make Chappell ‘slow’ for simply being honest about her concerns.

I find her a very weak vocalist with an extremely nasal tone, similar to Camila Cabello. I struggle to tolerate both, but at least Camila has a wider vocal range to work with, Tate doesn't even have that, so she's forced to rely on the dancing to bring it home. The strategy worked for Britney, so maybe it will work for her? She's only 21 so she's got the rest of the decade to improve, plus she sold out MSG so she clearly has a fanbase.

    What got me into her was the camp of her music. I got into Chappell when she was a very small artist. She didn't blow up until this past spring/ summer. She has been around for almost a decade. Hearing her music and living for how tongue in cheek it is and then being able to scream the campiest queer lyrics with my friends in the car was what made me a fan. Getting to scream them with thousands of people at her shows is what made me a stan. It's all about the experiences and memories tied to her music. No, she is not gonna give you what Gaga, Beyoncé, etc will give but it is about the community and experiences that her music creates and reminds you of. She was just a small queer indie artist not too long ago, so I'm sure her live performances will evolve and transform in the next few years. Her brand is mainly queer camp though. I am glad I know her music from before her "blow up" because I think who she is/ who her music is for what it stands for is a little lost in the hype. And that is a fault of the GP jumping on the bandwagon and not of her/ her team. I hope you give the album a full devoted listen just because her magic is in her music and the rest follows!

    I think for me, personally, the most important part of Chappell’s artistry and why I’M grabbed by her is because she is so OVERTLY and unapologetically queer and having that in the mainstream is amazing to see. I do find it frustrating as well that we often only see “pop girls” as they need to be clones of Britney Spears or someone like that and that they all have to follow the same formula of dancing and crazy visuals and 50 dancers and all of that. The expectation is really really terrible that female artists have to always do all of these things to ensure that people aren’t “bored” when they can and DO have impact by just being themselves. It’s largely Chappell’s relatability for people as a midwestern queer girl that she’s just like a girl’s girl onstage and isn’t trying to be like anyone but herself. To me, her performing the way she does with super gay lyrics is all I could really ask for and it makes me happy :)

    I'm a little monster myself (been here since the applause reaction days), and I feel you so hard on this, HAHAHSDK I think when you've been into an artist like Gaga, and when you've seen her performances, and the way she's so intentional and uses her fashion and eccentric looks to communicate and translate the whole vibe of an era, or her songs, turning the whole thing it into a full concept, it just clicks immediatly... but when we watch live performances from artists like Chappel Roan, and we see her all dolled up like that, noticing the effort she puts into her stage and looks, that we are kinda set up for higher expectations...
    I do think that her "drag persona" sometimes does not serve her songs and music too much imo, sometimes it's just distracting and steals the show a bit (which is her songwriting and vocals). Her music and songs are usually personal, and her instrumentals are stripped back and mellow, so it's an odd contrast with the way she presents herself which overshadows the more delicate and vulnerable aspects of her music. I've heard songs from her that trasmit one vibe when i listen to them, but when i see her live in her over the top "style" I just get distracted because i think she's about to do something crazy, but she never does, and the song doesn't call for it either hahahaah so it's like she could maybe make the song stand out doing something that favors the music itself, and not so much just as an aesthetic .... so yehhh, this video of you being honest and forward was validating because I've also found a hard time getting into her, even though i know she's talented and has something to say.

    Chappell absolutely did NOT vote for Trump. In fact, she said in an IG story “fu*k Trump” and that she was voting for Kamala Harris. Where the confusion came from is that she didn’t want to ENDORSE either candidate because, quote “I don’t agree with a lot of what is going on with policies. Obviously f*ck the the policies of the right, but also f*ck some of the policies on the left. That’s why I can’t endorse. “
    The controversy was about her not wanting to endorse either candidate because she hates Trump and the conservatives but she also has issues with the Democrats. She’s actually more leftist than the Democrats (who, as a party, are pretty centrist actually).
    She clarified that she was voting for Kamala but voting is different than endorsing. She also has a MAJOR issue with how both parties are still supporting Israel, which is essentially helping to fund the genocide in Palestine as well as both being varying levels of transphobic. That’s why she wouldn’t endorse Kamala Harris. She still voted for her because the Conservatives and Trump go against literally everything she stands for.
    Just wanted to clear that up because so many people were spreading misinformation.
    Oh, btw, when asked what change she wanted to see in US politics she said, “Trans rights. They cannot have cis people making decisions for trans people. Period.
    Hope this clears up her politics for you. She’s basically more left than the left (at least the left representation in the Democrats).

      Does skin color define talent? No. But it does define how you get treated in Hollywood and the music industry. Zach isn’t wrong about that. Many darker female artists are called ugly, niche, and have to work very hard to be noticed. I can’t 100% speak on Chappell because I don’t listen to her but many black artists who aren’t light skinned with a certain look are getting overlooked. If Doja Cat wasn’t pretty and light skinned, a song like Moo would’ve never blew up the way it did.

    • @ominisi
      @ominisi 8 дней назад +4

      @@kennethiavail1719 I totally agree 100%, but my point is that besides that, there are other things the industry considers. In this case, Chappel has that disruptive personality that makes her stand out. She’s always been like that, and maybe that’s why people connect with her, not because she’s white, but because she’s authentic and real. That’s why she has thousands and thousands of fans, because she appeals to an audience that genuinely supports her, not just people who are into her for her looks like some other artists. Chappel isn’t just talented, she’s real, and people love her for who she is. She’s allowed to be herself, not because she’s white. That view is too simplistic and fits a narrative that might be true for other artists who benefit from white privilege, but with her, it’s just not the case. That’s where Zach gets it wrong in my opinion.

    • @kennethiavail1719
      @kennethiavail1719 8 дней назад +4

      @@ominisi and I agree but Chappelle being a white woman, she can’t opt out of that privilege. She has the privilege to be herself and be disruptive. Many black artists don’t get that privilege. Chappelle just happens to be talented which is great but, there are black artists who are disruptive and talented and set trends yet where are they? They aren’t on huge stages and having successful tours that they get the privilege to cancel. A black artist who was on the up and up could never cancel tour dates because they’re overwhelmed because those opportunities don’t come for us the same way they do for others. White artists get to sing about whatever they want to and have that freedom. Chappelle has that freedom to be the artist she wants to be.
