*Christine* is a Great 80s Horror Classic!
Keith Gordon gave a Fantastic performance as 'Arnie'
Very true.
Heheh glad to see Ian shares my love of this car too. Christine.... she's an evil bitch but she's got me under her spell. She's a beautiful car. Arnie in the movie is basically me whenever I see Christine. It doesn't matter what form. Toy model car, die-cast matchbox car, anything. She's my dream car. From the red paint to the duel headlights, all the way to those fins....
this absolutely does NOT need a remake. there is a lot different from the book, but it works in the basics solidly for something that fits the pacing of the movie.
(i even think it makes more sense with it being LeBay's brother that sells it)
Blumhouse and Sony are planning one
@@johnnysparkle Strike 1 and 2 right there. Don’t trust them to deliver something good. Carpenters score will be great though if he decides to do it!
The old guy who sells the car I remember him from home alone and the snow shovelling guy and in escape from Alcatraz with clint Eastwood
I dropped my phone into my shitter stance
Roberts Blossom. His last film was Sam Raimi's "The Quick & The Dead".
That's right! Alcatraz! Wasn't he the guy with a bird or a mouse or something?
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 he was the artist I believe
If I remember correctly, his name is Flowers Blossom.
I've always loved the rebuild scene, too. It gives off an almost strip tease kind of vibe.
Yes, I love it - and I read that John Carpenter told Keith Gordon to play it exactly like that - that he was seeing a beautiful woman with her clothes off.
Well Arnie does say "ok, show me.".
There actually is some blood in the movie where Arnie goes through the shield and takes out the big glass-shared from his body and it’s covered in blood and there is some blood on his face, clothing and around him as he’s removing it.
They SHOULD NOT remake this film. This film is a classic!
Talia Price Why do people love it so much?
@@monsterjambrony Because John Carpenter is one of the greatest directors of all time and a horror ICON who could do other genre's as well. The soundtrack is amazing both the songs used and Carpenter's score, and it has better acting and better story then 90% of most of the worse then PORN horror films of the 2000-2020. It is a shame great films die because the teens and 20 somethings view old as bad.
@@michaelcoffey1991 Thanks for telling me, now I might see this movie in a new light.
@@monsterjambrony I hope you do. Doesnt matter if it is old classics like Frankenstein or Dracula or in this case Christine as soon as the young (in any aspect of life) do not keep a film or song or game or w/e alive it is dead for all intensive purposes. I hope you like it, and if you do tell all your friends :). Best to you Sir or Madam
@@michaelcoffey1991 I already saw it, but maybe next time I’ll see why people like it.
It would be AWESOME if Carpenter and King got together and do a movie of FROMA A BUICK 8.
Only John Carpenter could make 50's and 60's music scary.
Tho not in John Carpenter's top 5 for US here in this house, it is usually 6th or 7th on our list and a total gem for most horror fans. It just saddens me that so many great films of all time from the 30's 40's 50's 60's and so forth get lost by the teens and 20 somethings who equate older films for boring or lame before watching them.
You guys didn't mention Back to School, that's where I always remember Keith Gordon from the most.
LEGEND OF BILLIE JEAN
Keith Gordon was also in jaws 2
Great review, guys. Love this movie SO much. As a car guy, I'm not a fan of the thought of remaking this film. Finding enough Furys (Furies?) back in the early 80's that could be wrecked and crashed for this film was problematic, so I'm sure it would be close to impossible now. And that means they'd try to do it with CGI ... which sends chills down my spine. And not in a good way. Maybe a sequel? But not having the same car would seem kind of pointless. So . . . I think this film is perfect for what it is, flaws and all, and I think it's fine if this is all we get! It's a classic and I never tire of it.
I couldn't agree more. There are only one or two Furies left and they are cherry and basically priceless. Likewise the smaller and smaller reserve for 50's era cars generally. Even classics from the 80s like the Datsun Z cars are becoming modern classics that are getting hard to find. Remaking this film would be an abomination. It was a special film from a special time from the high-water mark of American culture. We are clearly in decline now.
...and I’m Gary...😀
Just found your reviews this weekend. You all do such a great job. Love the discussion without all the extra fluff. Love this movie. One of my favorite King adaptations. Thanks for the review!
Keith Gordon didn't end here. He was in Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield.
and eventually join the US Navy as a pilot ..but that did not go so well lol

Love Christine. Such a well-made movie about such a ridiculous concept. Of course it played into the early 80's thing for 50's Americana/nostalgia, which made it seem really cool at the time. Christine is also literally the origin of the phrase "you can't polish a turd". I always felt a little sorry for Darnell - he had helped Arnie/Christine out, and didn't deserve her wrath.
"Good hands...bad taste in cars" that's why Christine offed him. That and calling her a turd
I forgot another insult Darnell threw at Arnie about Christine. "Okay that's the last time you run that mechanical asshole in here without an exhaust hose, I catch ya doing it again I'll throw you out on your F-ing ass!"
" I know a creep when I see one... I think I'm lookin' at one right now.".
I think I watched this movie over a hundred times when I was a teen. The first time I watched this movie, I had a crush on John Stockwell. I do not think this movie should be remade, unless this movie is no longer available in any media forms.

*Spoiler* I like how in the book it's implied that Christine came back and hunted the kid who survived the gas station attack *across the country* to kill him, it's only an offhand mention right at the end, but it's significant, and it makes you afraid for Dennis and Leah.
I don't remember why I watched Christine when I was a teenager in the 80s. I did developed a crush on John Stockwell. Christine was my favorite John Stockwell movie.
I don't think they could remake this film. It's a one-of-a-kind classic. Nevermind the fact that there's only one or two 58 Plymouth's left now and no one would want to wreck them no matter how much they were offered. Also it would simply be sacrilege to destroy a classic car at this point. In the 80' classic cars you could fix up were a dime a dozen (not the Plymouth exactly but generally) but today they are all getting harder and harder to find. Even 80's era classics like the Datsun Z cars are becoming rare in their own right.
Also Carpenter had a sensibility that can't be copied. Today's directors have lost the craft of true filmmaking, as is evident in all the Carrie remakes. They all suck.
Btw, I saw this film when I was 13 in the theater and unless I snuck into an R rated film, it must have been rated PG. I don't recall sneaking in.
Wow, didn't realize so many of your vids got claimed. Thanks for the reuploads!
It’s actually a Plymouth Fury
Technically speaking It's actually a Plymouth Belvedere because the Fury didn't become an official plymouth model until 1958, before then it was simply an appearance package for the belvedere..
Hammerhead547 its a 58 fury bro
Not trying to be a dick or anything. Just saying the main car used in the film was a 58 fury, they also used a Belvedere and a Savoy
@@Hammerhead547 she made a cameo in It the novel a Plymouth Fury.
The last line of the novel is "His (LeBay's) unending fury."
I think the reason this film is so paired down with its violence is because Carpenter was heavily criticized for making The Thing too violent, so he must have made a conscience decision to make this less "offensive."
George lebay's brother Roland Lebay owns Christine in 1957 while with his unknown wife who choke into shock after his unknown wife died Roland Lebay also died as well in exhaust fumes following this event Dennis know what had happened 6 years the day Roland Lebay was deceased when his car traveled to Arnie when he was tormented by reeperton and his guys after becoming the host of Christine Arnie's personality changed filled his actions with hatred when impaled as his car mourned his demise when crushed by Dennis and Leigh on the bulldozer as far Christine went to help Arnie getting reaperton and his guys for what they deserve and dead for good.
That is a beautiful & unique looking car people are going to hate me for this but I think there should be a sequel to Christine not a reboot Christine is able to partially restore herself & she is found by a father who is looking buy a birthday present for his daughter. His daughter is a gifted mechanic who was taught by either her grandfather or uncle the girl character like Arney is a nerd but she is also a shy awkward girl who changes once she fixes up Christine. And no I'm not being a feminist I just wanted to see what would happen with a girl coming in contact with Christine but if they want to have another guy as the main lead I'm cool with that too.
re-uploads? okay, i'll watch em all again
Favorite Scene: Arnie, dying from glass impaling him, lovingly touches Christine one last time before he dies. Christine's lights turn off for a few moments, silently mourning for his death. The radio plays 'Pledging My Love' by Johnny Ace as the lights come back on. This is Christine swearing to forever love Arnie for the rest of her days before trying to kill the two protagonists. ruclips.net/video/gt6_2qd75F8/видео.html
+Off The Shelf Reviews Funny you guys should repost this, I had been looking for it. I was just at the Petersen Automotive Museum here in LA and the "hero" Christine car is currently on display, it has the blacked out windows.
What was up with trying to sell Alexandra Paul as the hotter chick? Kelly Preston blew her away.
Christine is a great movie. Almost as good as Gentlemen Broncos. But its a bit more approachable for people like Gary I think. :)
broncos is the bomb
the car is a 1958 Plymouth Fury
I forgot how great this movie and soundtrack were until seeing your review !!!!
Just discovered your channel and love it. Christine is such a great and underrated movie and so happy they haven't attempted to remake this movie. Knock on wood lol
1 of my favorite movies and I'm not even a John carpenter guy it's just this movie kicks ass
Best scene when Christine squeezes through that deadend.
People just don't appreciate just how difficult it is to make a story like this believable and scary. It's a beautiful achievement.
I always thought Darnell was being somewhat controlled by Christine. Why else would he sit in a burnt out car, and smile like he's sitting in a Ferrari?
Regarding a remake, I think the only thing that would work is to do what they did with The Thing and make a prequel, or another film set in the 1980s with new characters and the same car. Setting it in modern day and "recasting" Christine as a more modern car would be a huge mistake. First off, no car from the 90s or 2000s is both considered a classic, and looks both beautiful and frightening as the '57 Fury. Second, finding a 20 year old car that runs today isn't nearly as much of a novelty as a 50s car in the late 70s. Having grown up in the 80s, at the time the 50s felt like it existed in another, more ideal world. Kids then were fascinated by the 50s. Nobody is fascinated by the 00s.
Honestly I like the movies explanation for why Christine was evil over the book’s explanation in the book Lebay’s ghost haunts the car thus giving it life in the movie Christine was just evil from day done when she was made on the assembly line I like that more because it makes the story scarier in my opinion
I keep returning to this review
I would like to see a reboot of this movie but after thinking about it not to mention seeing the adaptations of Carrie Hollywood should just leave Christine alone. If they did a modern version or reboot of Christine they wouldn't do it justice this is a classic & should just be left alone. Or they could do a sequel to Christine it takes place 30 years later after Arney's death Lee & Dennis have gone their separate ways & moved on with their lives but are brought back together when they get word of the murderous car that killed their friend years ago has found another victim. This time the victim is a girl who like Arney is picked on at school, has shitty parents & is a nerd like Arney only her name is Ashley.
Yeah, it's best to just leave things like this alone. I fucking HATE when they remake films. I saw the remake of "Carrie" at a friend's house (I didn't even know that they had remade it) and I was cringing the entire time. Remakes are a fucking plague and should be wiped the fuck out. But, just like sequels, they will keep being spat out. It's revolting.
you know a
CHRISTINE
remake would
reverse the races
and
ARNIE
would be black
I really love u guys, so in debt about details and its intelligently brought out, been watching alot of your reviews about my favorit movies and i mostly agree with you! And yes Christine would be great as a remake...too bad Hollywood Only likes Kings top novels...anyways keep up the Good work! Hoorah from Sweden!
This is one of my favourite films; I especially enjoyed Robert Prosky, Roberts Blossom and, Harry Dean Stanton.
have you guys seen the 1977 the car
I remember in the scene where Arnie dies, he pulls out a glass shard filled with his blood.
This original christine songs was the best and most dangerous paradise flame red hot 1958 Plymouth car forever!!!! I used to watching 3 times. I see how you can translated from oldies classic to new stuff. Brings it to back by ultra classy fashion designer. When christine after crutches on 3 teenagers men bully? Who was capturing arne and his one friend into the sh#%hole guts? Had them killed. Now! Christine had to Protecting arne for their own lives and paradise lost into hell ragers of their lifestyles!!!! It was supermega dope! I love this 80's American horror film movies.
Honestly I’ve always believed that Stephen King got just a little inspiration for Christine from James Dean’s Porsche 550 Spider or as I like to call it THE DEMON CAR because think about it their both evil cars, they’ve both killed people, and their both beautiful classic cars among many other parallels there are so many parallels in fact that it can’t just be a mere coincidence
Here at the yard while crushed alive Christine starts to regenerate again to exact her revenge later on.
Actually, a little known fact... that was Adrienne Barbeau in the role of Christine. 😁
Keith Gordon was also in Dressed To Kill as well with Micheal Caine, Angie Dickinson and Nancy Allen.
He was also in The Legend Of Billie Jean with Helen Slater, Christian Slater (no relation), Yeardley Smith and Peter Coyote, and All That Jazz with Roy Schneider.
No one ever talk about the classic horror “Deadly friend” by Wes craven
Great review guys. I'm subbed
I love what you guys do but Christine was made because John Carpenter could not find work after the failure of The Thing and needed a win. I also love this film.
I reckon leave Christine as a Carpenter film (and not reboot). Stephen King's book is an interesting read too. Let's hope Carpenter makes one more full length horror film. He's proven he's still got it with the fairly recent Masters of Horror short films. Come on Carpenter, all is forgiven for Escape from L.A. and Ghosts of Mars...
In America these cars are known as a Plymouth Fury.
It's a plymouth fury not a belvedere, it's a common misconception, the 57-58 plymouths looked the very similar, the fury, belvedere, and savoy looked almost the same.
I have the book and was delighted that theres a movie of it. Also, can you guys review a movie thats dear to my childhood: The Last Starfighter.
if you guys want a remake of Christine even i dont think so but i think the person that did the 2017 it movie would be fantastic for the job
Love this movie
That scene when Johnny Ace is playing
Zachary Holguin Why do you love this movie?
Nice video guys, I really want to see this movie and gong to buy the book soon along with Carrie.
i love you christine
Actually Gary the movie is rated R due to the swearing it makes up for the none existent blood & gore just thought I put that in there for you.

They should never be a Christine remake if anything do a prequel because as you mention all the things that are in the book that aren't in the original owner dies when Christine starts to rust & rot because it has nobody to devote all that attention to just one thing
A Co-Worker Closed the Hood of the Company Truck on my Fingers Almost Chopping them Off Luckily there was a Gap Between the Hood and The Grill .
Christine as the 58 Fury is a cult classic.
The car has a thinny in the trunk, making it a portal to the darkness between world's where many of Kings monsters originate from. Creatures like IT, Dandelo or Tak (from desperation.)
No
1958 Plymouth Fury not Belvedere.
It's a Plymouth Fury. FURY! Not a Belvedere.
Most of the cars used in the film Sadly were Belvedere's
Just like the Car 1977 classic 👊🏼
Arnie should have agreed to Mr. Will for the dollars while rebuilding Christine.
Actually they are planning a remake right now.
I want a Maybach that can do what Christine is able to .
they could do a prequel, like they did with the thing :)
This movie really needs a sequel
I feel like Carpenter perfected Halloween with Christine.
I do have another question why didn't Christine fix herself after her previous owner died?
Catspaw maybe she was depressed?
Arnie and Christine feed off each other, her demonic power makes him confident and cool and his love makes her more powerful so she can do things like fixing herself. The other owners Christine probably just killed because she didn't like them and they didn't like her.
Good point Christine saw something special in Arnie when he first saw her he was transfixed she saw how he looked at her & he took great pride & love to fix her up to make her look new again she knew Arnie was the one. All her other owners just didn't do it for her.
it would take place in the 50's...cool :)
A soon as he said belvedere it triggered me it's a fury not a belvedere
I wanna buy a Plymouth Fury I just don't know if they are actually worth it
Beep beep, Richie!
There aren't many left.
Its a 58 Plymouth Fury.
I've never seen this film. Is it really recommended as everyone says?
Well worth watching. It’s an underrated gem. The combination of Carpenter’s direction and King’s storytelling (albeit altered and cut down somewhat in the script) is a delicious cocktail that should have been replicated a few more times frankly.
How about a prequel?
