It is just so weird how your perspective of people you thought you knew changes when a situation like this comes along.
Great message Chris!! I'm over here on the "never wear a mask" camp BUT I do not judge those who choose to wear one and I certainly don't judge those who are afraid, as fear is something that can be very all-encompassing. And as you said, compassion is important. However, that said, fear is not from God so I do think we as Christians have a duty to understand both sides so that we can speak intelligently about the issue and to help spread the message that we should not fear death, but welcome getting to go Home whenever, and however, God calls us.

If it was just the mask that wouldn't be a problem, but that's just how it starts. No one lives forever and GOD holds all the cards in his hands. So, I put all my faith in him. No matter what there should always be room for forgives and mercy.
Thank you for this! One of the saddest things about this year is the separation I feel from formerly close church friends who believe quite differently about masks and do not understand my position. Division is the act of the evil one.

Division is an active of Love. In fact, it is the rejection of the evil one. Christ warned us of this division and attributed it to Himself, not the devil. Matthew 10:21
Same here. My main Church doesn't require masks and is very anti government rulings. I understand but think of the older population. I've switched Churches because of it. It's only 1 hour of mask wearing, but our pastor doesn't require it

I can’t tell you how much I love this!!! Regardless of whether I agree with someone on the mask issue, I have the choice of how I respond, or whether I respond at all. More importantly, you’ve brought to light the judgements I’ve been making in my heart. Thank God for the gift of reconciliation. “A clean heart create for me, God; renew within me a steadfast spirit.”
I am not Catholic and we need more of this as believers. Don't know why I prefaced that. We need more of this as believers. Period.

The problem, though, Chris, is that there can never be love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control without truth. All of those graces depend on truth. It is fair to question what we have been told and the motivations behind it. We must always insist on truth and sometimes that requires being a little less than patient. Without truth there is no love. Without truth there is no mercy and without truth there is no peace.
Jesus spoke truth without harshness.
@@lrose1076 Jesus could be harsh when he needed to be. Look at the way he handled the money changers in the temple. Was it too harsh of a judgment when he accused them of turning God’s house into a den of thieves? Often what our society confuses as harsh is merely standing up for truth when it is unpopular.
And as a means to seek out truth, I think one needs to use the brain that God gave us. So back to the science: what is the smallest size particle that the famous N95 mask can filter? What is the physical size particle of that Covid spike ball? Use any search engine you want to choose.
Challenge yourselves to seek the truth rather than take someone else at their word.
@@robertsell1943 You can also easily compare place to place around the world. Are people dying in 10-fold numbers in places like Denmark and Norway where they don't care much for masks? Actually these are two examples that have among the lowest case rates in the world. Very simple Science. If masks prevent us from getting the Covid virus we would see evidence.
I agree. Kindness to me is occasionally wearing a mask where I have to to respect other's thinking although I may disagree strongly. That is where I draw the line. Most grocery visits can now be done curb-side or delivery. This is all coming to a head and I am grateful just for the chance to eat currently! Let's remain in the Lord and as you said Rob, walking in truth. I agree with your political position. Pray for me where I may have it wrong / compromise.

Thank you! In our Church, we all know what particular sacramentals represent. The same is not true of the mask, though it's become more pervasive than any sacramental in our sanctuaries. So, we all attribute our own meaning to donning them because it isn't something that comes from the Church, and yet the parish tells us it's an act of charity. But, is that really a truth grounded in faith and reason?
When the mask has become the sacramental of the Gospel of Safe that infects our parishes, there's reason to believe that pervasive, cultural, militant maskism could become a risk to our souls and our parish communities. We are a people of faith and reason, and looking at our churches, I mourn the loss of both. Would that so much of our Church be so militant about the safety of preborn children! Free your face, and fight Smile Deficit Disorder!
You asked the all important question. Is mask-wearing a truth that is grounded in faith and reason? Is locking down our Churches and removing the holy water? Is Covid so dangerous that it is really necessary to take vaccines which were researched and developed from murdered, unborn babies?
We lost power mid winter for 8 days from a bad windstorm a few years ago. The people were fine at first but after day 3 nerves began to fray. By day 6 you began to see what people were made of, or what they were like under stress. Patience, a quiet spirit, a smile and a listening ear will calm those who become frightened. And you will know who the strong ones are when its all over. Be patient and kind with those who, under stress, are neither patient or kind.
Chris, thank you for this video! I appreciate the perspective. I have encountered that same range of people in my life ("multiple masks all the time" to "no masks at any time") among friends and extended family, and it has made some relationships quite tense and painful this past year. What's worse, Protestant friends and family at both ends of the spectrum justify their opposing positions from the Bible, which becomes a spiritual issue in addition to a political issue. I am grateful to see that you understand and abide by the concept of reasonable risks/reasonable precautions.

So true. We have never ever done this before and each month science changes as time goes on as it is learned. I’m tired of the fighting and harshness!!! No matter the subject there is disagreeing and putting others down cause someone thinks their way of living is better. And that includes traditional Latin Mass Catholics against us regular folks. I can’t find something to watch or read on the internet that doesn’t have a controversy and make me feel like I have to debate. I don’t though!

Yep I walked the same middle road Chris did. One mask and if I"m outdoors and running along the street no mask.(I have to breath easier when jogging). But the spiritual. I found I've gone to mass just as much as before the pandemic despite the restrictions and dispensations. We started a sort of new ministry too. We've run 8 food drives, and have prepared meals for the two catholic homeless shelters in our area every week using our church's commercial kitchen. It's been spiritually up lifting as when I started asking the shelters if anyone was bringing meals to them and to help them the number was NONE. The pandemic left the poor behind because people were more scared than they needed to be.

I wear my mask when in close proximity with people, especially strangers and non-family members. I dont wear my mask when driving alone in my car or walking by myself or exercising.

AMEN! The virus doesn't have the power over us that spiritual neglect does. I, also, wear a mask when in public (for others to feel secure), but am not obsessive about it. My family and close friends see my face. It's unnatural to not have that intimate connection. The wording on my favorite mask reveals my true feelings: FAITH OVER FEAR!
Hey Chris! I don't totally disagree with what you said, but I think there is a line between wearing a mask out of love, and SAYING that wearing a mask is the loving thing to do. This second way of going about it creates two camps: the loving people and the people who don't care about others. There are plenty of bad reasons people wear masks, just as there are plenty of good reasons someone might not wear a mask. Automatically assuming that the people who mask are doing so because they care about other people is just as dangerous and divisive as assuming that people who wear masks are gullible idiots. It turns a controversial decision into an opportunity for virtue-signaling and being judgmental. Just my two cents! I don't think the science backs up the wearing of masks, but am totally fine if that's what some people want to do. As a matter of policy, I think it is a problem when masks are required, and I see a lot of problems with mental health, isolation, depression, a lack of community, etc, arising from the prolonged wearing of masks. If the vaccine works, why wear a mask? If it doesn't, why should we get the vaccine?
Saying that we wear masks out of love is like saying we pay taxes out of love for others. It is not love. It is compliance - plain and simple.

I agree with you, Chris about needing to nourish our souls, too. Restrictive masks do affect our personal and spiritual lives. We do need to see each other's faces to really communicate well.
And, with a lung problem, these masks are too restrictive to healthy breathing b/c we keep re-breathing our own carbon dioxide, which is not good for your health. And, when we say long prayers at Mass, it is difficult for me and I worry about that causing me to cough. And we all know the panic that may cause in some people. May God have mercy on us and help doctors find a "CURE" for Covid!!

Thank you for this great reflection. In my own life I have often thought about the harsh attitudes of some Catholics as likely very damaging to our own pro-life arguments. I feel like if we embraced masks as you indicate in your video we could easily draw a line to protecting life of the unborn.
