@@KetsuekiTheHeartlessOne It's even in Duel Links for Yami Yugi/Atem. When the skill is triggered, you choose any card you want from your deck. Not a great skill since it an only be used once, and only if you don't get OTKd, but still neat.
ahh yes, the destiny draw. first time i ever saw it was in DotR(Duelist of the Roses). if you had less than 1000 LP, a random card with a strong effect would be added to the top of your deck, before your next draw phase. good times...good times.
The reason they have a deck limit is because one time someone brought a 2222 card deck to the Nationals tournament it took like an hour just to shuffle
My God that's ridiculous! Technically you can use 2k cards in MTG if you want to, but you have to shuffle it unassisted. If you can't, you can't use that deck.
"I discard 1 to draw 1" But in all seriousness, some rules I believed in for the longest time were -playing monsters face-up defense postilion. -playing trap cards straight from the hand (not quick play mind you, just as like a spell card) -countering cards with Mystical Space Typhoon or Dust Tornado. -flipping flip effects into face-up defense postilion.
To be fair, the rules were heavily dependent on the show in the very early days. And MST can counter traps so long as the trap’s trigger condition has not been met. A trap cannot activate if it was destroyed by MST. But, if the condition was met (i.e. activate when a monster is destroyed) then the trap’s effect must resolve. Think of it as whether the ball got rolling before MST was played. But like, if Waboku was used, MST would destroy it before battle damage is dealt to the opponent and so Waboku would fail.
Unlimited copies of any card in your deck. Normal summon to face up defense. All spells are during either players turn. All traps can be activated turn they were set. Infinite battle phases.
I mean the anime would teach you the basics just not the more detailed rules like card limits deck limits extra decks etc but at least I knew what cards required tributes etc
similar story here. we stacked our decks in the order we wanted to draw the cards, and our "shuffling" consisted of just cutting the deck a few times hoping we could keep the order the same it was stacked.
Me and My Friends Called it “Street Rules” . We Always had 6 or more people . Banned cards allowed . Dust Tornado Negated Stuff . Started with 6 cards in hand and 1st turn you could draw . The Red, Yellow and Blue god cards had the Anime Abilities Honestly though That Yugioh was fun as hell🔥❤️
I remember a friend saying he could fuse 3 monsters together because he saw it on the show, but he didnt have the fusion card and he just added up their attack points.
@@nakitawilson9284 A lot of my friends didn't understand quick play and counter spell/trap cards. It blew their minds when I would use a quick play or counter spell during their turns or a quick play/counter trap card on my own turn.
One of my "interpretations" of a vanilla card's flavor text was with Archfiend Soldier. His flavor text says that he is famous for always getting the job done, so I interpreted it as never being destroyed in battle and always destroys a monster it attacks (and not taking damage if it attacks something stronger) I also remember a rule where we could withdraw monsters from the field (something to do with the Kaiba v Yugi duel with the Beyblade duel disks)
God I hated that kid so much. Had to use 3 Dark Hole magic cards to get rid of his damn number monsters… and I had 200 life points because I couldn’t even defend the number monsters
Mystical Space Typhoon to negate your opponent's traps (Or spell that was just activated as if it were a trap card, and "what does that little lightning bolt symbol on the card even mean, anyway?").
Buster The Fox Gameplay my brother had one when he used relinquished absorbs my monster but if I use a spell card or trap card to destroy relinquished the monster is destroyed instead and he automatically takes another monster
scarlet night yeah but you cannot negate a spell or trap card that is trying to activate by using mystical space typhoon. And quick spells and traps can activate in response to mst, so it was vastly less useful than people made it out to be.
I remember thinking that I could attack my own monsters, so I'd use an effect like "this card gains 1000 atk for every wind monster it destroys" and have it attack my own weak wind monsters to keep buffing it lol
This rule actually sounds sick tho, imagine if you had a small 15 card "Destiny Draw" deck that you were able to do a Hail Mary "Heart of The Cards" pull from.
@Goku Black: that mean it must be its own created tournament, and not an official one from konami, unless he was in japan during the beta of this game.
I beilived we had to know ras chant in order to summon him and i was one of the 2 people in my school that knew it. Also we always played by the battle city win rule
My cousin and I had *MANY* rules: 1. There was no tribute summoning 2. Every spell was generalized (e.g. If a spell said you had to tribute a dragon monster from your hand, you could tribute any monster in your hand) 3. the main, standby, and battle phase were combined into a huge mess 4. We each started with 16000 LP 5. Banish zone and Graveyard was the same thing 6. XYZ monsters were summoned by overlaying any number of monsters as long as their levels added up to the XYZ monster's rank 7. Rank and level were the same 8. Synchro monsters were summoned by tributing any 2 monsters 9. any 2 monsters could be used to fusion summon, and you also have to activate a spell 10. any spells that made you fusion summon let you fusion summon without tributing monsters 11. Link monsters could be summoned by tributing any monsters (you had to tribute the number of monsters the link value is, as usual) 12. Winged Dragon of Ra had 6000 ATK and DEF, Slifer the Sky Dragon had 5000 ATK and DEF, and Holactie the Creator of light had infinite ATK and DEF 13. You don't need to shuffle your deck if both players agree not to shuffle
GGodwad Waffles I feel like randomized playing would be more fun because you would probably get bored of doing the exact same thing every time. Besides, it would make it easier to learn someone’s strategy and perfectly design a deck to destroy them
@@cagedtomatomilk if someone learned the others strategy, wouldn't the other guy try to do the same? Infinite countering, Pure death And then one of them summons an egyptian god
I came into the game around the time of yugioh zexal, so I believed the classic "Only a number monster can destroy a number monster"... I even tried that on DN when it was still up :(
I too used to think you could summon any Vanilla Monster you wanted regardless of Level. Then my friend was all like: "NO! You can't do that!" And I was all like: "Why not!? they did it in the First season of the Show?"
+king miuzz Yeah, I mean there was Rex Raptor summoning Serpent Knight Dragon, Joey Summoning Red Eyes Black Dragon, Kaiba summoning Blue Eyes White Dragon, and Yugi Summoning Dark Magician. All from their Hand! There were some High level Effect Monsters that were summoned without a sacrifice, but only because their Effects never mentioned anything about having to Summon them in a special way. Some Examples include: Castle of Dark Illusions, Swamp Battleguard, Lava Battleguard, Shadow Ghoul, Harpie's Pet Dragon, etc.
+Donquez Williams The Classic Series was good(if you can look passed the excessive and Stupid Censorships) the later Series, not so much. Also, I'm assuming you meant: The Anime is "Bogus"?
when I was a kid we had a rule where you could draw 5 in the draw phase if your hand was empty lmao ofc I abused the shit out of it when I understood the advantage it gave me xD really loving the persona 5 music in the background btw
god listening to you guys talking its like the memories are pouring out but we never did the fusions in the deck thing because most of us started with the starter decks with the field but when the duel disks came out we started doing it just to have a place to keep them some place and it did make it harder to summon them so it was more challenging.
1. Junk warrior is the most op card 2. Scrap iron scarecrow was op 3. You could summon every monster whenever you want, even synchro and fusion monsters( that's how my dad and I played the game :^) )
What rules do you go by, if any? Whenever it was me, my brother, my sister, and my cousin we basically took out 4 playing mats and just went around the circle.
Ok so here’s a stupid rule me and my friends had when we played: your opponents field had to be completely empty to attack directly, including spell cards. So for the longest time when the monsters were gone, we would attack the face down spell and trap cards then we could attack directly. Thinking back, I still don’t know how we got the idea to attack spell cards
1. Number monsters are invincible (thanks shark) 2. MST negates 3. A side deck? What side deck? 4. "I set a monster in attack position" (thanks yugi) 5. "My 70 card deck is unstoppable!" 6. God cards permanently negate effects 7. Rainbow dragon can be special summoned from your hand 8. "Mystical tomato!!!!!!!!!"
I just realized Joey never used polymerization for Flame Swordsman!! And then he special summoned it with Blue Flame Swordsman i believe! I DONT EVEN THINK THATS HIS EFFECT!!
the show was before the game and when they made actual rules for the game they changed the rules for the show the next season so kids didnt get confused
- sumnon in defence Position - destroy = negate - you cant tribute a monster if this monster attacked - no Spellspeed exist - you can look at your next card - no bannlist - more than 3 copies allowed - flip effects can interrupt battle
I legit am crying real tears from "I brought my Boue Eyes Dark Magician Exodia deck!" Like I keep replaying this video just for that skit!!! Woooooow! I needed that laugh.
A friend of mine when I was learning the game still said pot of greed drew 6 cards and does 1000 damage to me. I read the card and exposed him and he screamed and ran forgetting the pot. Guess who got a free pot of greed
"My gate guardian pieces morph together even though i don't own gate guardian, and i can essentially do whatever i want from there" - Kid playing yugioh on the buss circa 2004
I thought only toon monsters not spells traps or card effects and could evade battles except from other toons. And if toon world was destroyed so were his toons.
In my neighborhood we had a "rule" that you can have a maximum of 3 counterfit card, by that I mean you print the card you want and stick it a playing card you don't need anymore. It was a fun way to use a card that you never got from packs.
IIRC it did in the very early days of the game. I do remember the early rulebooks explicitly saying that used magic cards got "destroyed." I wish I could remember what card effects I procced off of that, but it was fun as shit to abuse.
Hunny Rudd I've been at local tournaments where everyone in there used MST to negate stuff. Honestly I think the main reason why everyone knows MST is because this is how pretty much everyone used it to negate
My Melchid the Four-Face Beast said "This monster has four different masks for four different attacks." so I was able to attack with it 4 times and my opponents would always be like yeah that seems about right.
rules me and my brother had: #1 you have to first attack defense position monsters #2 you can send cards to the grave on your side when you feel like it #3 you can have as many of the same card in the deck
Some rules I used to see people using: 1) You could Normal Summon in face-up Defense Position 2) You could Tribute Summon in addition to your Normal Summon 3) If you had a Japanese card, you got to make up its effect because nobody could read the card (even if it was a Normal Monster) 4) If you summoned La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp, you got 3 wishes (which would always end up being "destroy all cards on the opponent's field," "destroy all cards in the opponent's hand," and "destroy all cards in the opponent's deck") 5) If your field was full but you wanted to play another card, you could destroy your own cards on purpose (this happened a lot because we all used to use those really situational flip effect monsters and trap cards) 6) Level 10 or higher monsters were not allowed to be used (I think this was because the Egyptian God cards were all level 10 and all said "cannot be used in a Duel," so whoever said this must have assumed the restriction extended to all Level 10 or higher monsters)
The story of the guy with the 3000 card deck is way more wild than you made it out to be. Notable points that you didnt mention: The player was a judge (not in that event) who realized this was a major rules oversight that wouldn't get fixed until someone exploited it The deck was packed with as many tutors as possible to guarantee that 90% of the match was searching through and shuffling his deck. His only goal was to make every match go to time. As far as I'm aware, he wasn't selected for a deck check, but oh, how I wish he had been
My one friend who taught us all Yu-Gi-Oh, (and played a number heavy deck) told us that number cards couldn't be destroyed in battle except by other number cards. We believed that for so long.
I remember playing against my brother, not only did I cheat because he didn't know any better, watching the show, which fucked up the rules anyway, I thought I could do the same. My favourite rules were; being able to attack on the first turn, being able to attack directly, being able to attack and then switch the monster into defence mode because I saw someone do it on the show and also activating cards without their effects being triggered. Activated trap cards same turn they were set, flip summoned to get flip effects like they were trap cards on my opponents turn, I never lost a duel man.
John Cena You can but not if you're first on your first turn.Yes if your opponent starts first and he just doesn't have monsters to Summon then on your turn you can attack your opponent's life points directly. The one that starts first can't attack immediately.
A guy I used to play with came up with "False Tribute" - You could tribute a monster, then play one face down to bluff that it was something bigger and more threatening as a defensive play. I liked that one since it requires giving up resources for a mindgame-play.
Two Rules we had in my neighborhood as kids for Yu-Gi-Oh were that we couldn't attack the opponent's Life Points Directly unless it was in an effect of the card that said it and second rule was that if a monster had 0 Attack it would kill anything and deal the monster's Attack Points to Life Points if that monster card was in Attack Mode, if it was in defense Mode and had 0 Defense it dealed the Attacking Monster's Attack Points to the Attacker's Life Points.
As a kid my friends and I used to play with a rule that if you had more than one of the same monster you could fuse them together. So if you had 3 Kaiser Seahorse on the field you could make Triple Kaiser Seahorse and it would have the combined attack of the three monsters, as well as have that many attack points. good times getting smacked with Double Whiptail Crow #2 for 3100 every attack
Me and a few friends that I met at work a while back actually still play battle royal and 2v2 games, and it's actually quite fun. Also, for the longest time, I was one of those guys who summoned his monsters in defense mode
Back at my school we thought traps could be activated from the hand and spells could be activated during the opponents turn from the hand. Also, no hand limit.
Meme Munchies If at the end of your turn your hand has more than 6 cards in it, you discard until you have 6. This dosen't usually happen nowadays mostly because of the game being extremely fast and most duels ending before turn 10.
I remember after watching the first episode, that the way tributing works was that you declared you offered monsters as “tributes”, then once they were sent to the graveyard by your opponent, you could summon the monster that required them, lmao
Nice Vid, ich guess I have some other things : - Summon in open defense position - changing battle position after the monster attacked - activating traps the turn they were set - I remember the slime card that in the anime always summoned his self back without a cost, we played it always like the anime (was too overpowered because no phases were known and so it just always returned) Good old times :D

- we start with 80.000 life points,
We could use millenium items to cheat, they were made of paper, cardboard and alots of glue,
- the millenium eye your oponent should play showing his hand,
- the millenium puzzle that yugi uses, you could draw one any card you desired per turn,
- the millenium necklance, your opponent should say what he was supose to do, and he should do, unless he has an egipcian god in field,
- the millenium ring, you could posses an enemy monster per turn,
- the millenium scale, if you gain life your enemy lose the same amount of life, if you make your enemy lose life, you gain the same amount of life,
- the millenium key, you could pick a card of your oponent deck of your choose, per turn,
- the millenium staff, I dont really remember, but no none of us liked to use, maybe we invented a really dumb rule, that wasnt fun at all xD
As you can see some of the millenium items effect, we just created and most of them didnt even match the anime effects,
all egipcian gods were immune to card effects and millenium items, the only way to defeat was by battle, and Ra had its phoenix and sphere mode before the card creation,

They are talking about old school yugioh, all the extra decks had was fusions if you felt like having an extra deck.
@Gustavo Correa da silva I felt the exact same way. Sorry to crush ur dreams
Said that while playing yugioh in Roblox. Facepalmed for 5 minutes straight after they broke the news to me.
That was are rule
When you ran out of cards in your hand, you draw 5 new cards.
+Steven Boucher Oh that one was always an old favorite lol
We did that too! I would just set all my useless s/t and draw 5 lol
Cause of forbidden memories lol
That's something I do whenever I play card games casually.
I once drew 15 extra cards in a duel because of this rule.

It would've worke better if I had friends to play with

"I discard 1 to draw 1"
But in all seriousness, some rules I believed in for the longest time were
-playing monsters face-up defense postilion.
-playing trap cards straight from the hand (not quick play mind you, just as like a spell card)
-countering cards with Mystical Space Typhoon or Dust Tornado.
-flipping flip effects into face-up defense postilion.
"Flip monsters resolve however they are REMOVED from the field.Spell/trap effect ACTIVATES IT" rules....
You were just playing beta versions of evenly matched and infinite impermanence
There was no such thing as standby, main or end phase. So basically we could use spells, effects and trap cards whenever we felt like it.
Dr PhD oh yeah I fucking remember that we had no concept of quick spells and activated normal spells during the battle phase
The times were simple...the times were good

Unlimited copies of any card in your deck.
Normal summon to face up defense.
All spells are during either players turn.
All traps can be activated turn they were set.
Infinite battle phases.
Darien Hernandez me and my friends and cousins didn't even set trap cards. They were basically magic cards
Even in the anime they are limited to 3 copies of each card.
Darien Hernandez wasn't face up defense a thing at some point?
Let's face it... if they would change the rules to allow for face up defense... the game would slow down A METRIC FUCK TON!
except for some effect monsters, not in the actual game
they did it all the time in the anime though
I used to follow rules of the anime instead of the tcg! 😂
I made the same mistake
Everyone did no problem
I mean the anime would teach you the basics just not the more detailed rules like card limits deck limits extra decks etc but at least I knew what cards required tributes etc
To be fair, all the things they explained were doable in the original manga from what I remember
I followed the rules except the fusion monsters having a different deck
I remember me and my friends went behind a wall to “shuffle” while we actually rigged our decks
Same. When my friend and I would meet at one of our places, one (or both) of us would say "I pre-shuffled my deck"
LMFAO
similar story here. we stacked our decks in the order we wanted to draw the cards, and our "shuffling" consisted of just cutting the deck a few times hoping we could keep the order the same it was stacked.
To be fair who actually shuffled as a kid?
The deck limit was introduced when somebody brought a deck of 2,222 cards to the nationals in Germany
Josh Turner are you serious?
Imagine searching that deck for 1 specific card holy shit...
The shuffling!!!
The shuffling specifically was why it was introduced, IIRC it took like, an hour and a half to shuffle.

11. Link monsters could be summoned by tributing any monsters (you had to tribute the number of monsters the link value is, as usual)

2) You could Tribute Summon in addition to your Normal Summon
3) If you had a Japanese card, you got to make up its effect because nobody could read the card (even if it was a Normal Monster)
4) If you summoned La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp, you got 3 wishes (which would always end up being "destroy all cards on the opponent's field," "destroy all cards in the opponent's hand," and "destroy all cards in the opponent's deck")
5) If your field was full but you wanted to play another card, you could destroy your own cards on purpose (this happened a lot because we all used to use those really situational flip effect monsters and trap cards)
6) Level 10 or higher monsters were not allowed to be used (I think this was because the Egyptian God cards were all level 10 and all said "cannot be used in a Duel," so whoever said this must have assumed the restriction extended to all Level 10 or higher monsters)

You didn’t need polymerization to fusion summon....
Nobody stood a chance against blue eyes ultimate when I played shining dragon....
Also, no hand limit.
whats the hand limit?
Meme Munchies If at the end of your turn your hand has more than 6 cards in it, you discard until you have 6. This dosen't usually happen nowadays mostly because of the game being extremely fast and most duels ending before turn 10.
I remember after watching the first episode, that the way tributing works was that you declared you offered monsters as “tributes”, then once they were sent to the graveyard by your opponent, you could summon the monster that required them, lmao
When my brother and I were little, we thought drawing a new card meant getting a piece of paper and inventing your own card
That IS technically drawing after all
(+Gandalf Monkey Animations)
Awww. That’s so cute.
I thought the same thing when getting into Pokemon cards
When I was a kid we all thought when you summoned kuriboh while you have dark magician anywhere (deck, field, grave) you automatically win.
LOL WHAT
Cookie C
What how to believe this!!?
this is what the anime does to kids!!! lmao

Thanks Duelist Kingdom Arc
Having an issue with using dirt as a playmat is not a rule violation. The word you were looking for improper etiquette.
Nice Vid, ich guess I have some other things :
- Summon in open defense position
- changing battle position after the monster attacked
- activating traps the turn they were set
- I remember the slime card that in the anime always summoned his self back without a cost, we played it always like the anime (was too overpowered because no phases were known and so it just always returned)
Good old times :D
