      FISABILILLAH I think she was just nervous. For someone who hasn't ever met someone with DID it can be kind of strange and nerve-wracking because you don't know how you should respond or talk or engage with each alter as an individual and you have to constantly remind yourself that even though they look the same to you it's not the same person

    This disorder is not that difficult to understand. It's your mind literally not able to fight or flight a situation so your body goes through a disassociation. These "alters" protect the main host whenever they feel threatened mentally physically and emotionally. It's mind-blowing that there are DOCTORS who don't believe in this! Doctors, if anybody, know the human body has so much untapped potential that's not been discovered yet.

      I believe it’s possible for the brain to do that because it does make sense. To escape traumas or to be able to deal/cope with traumas.
      But I definitely do not believe in any of the bullshit personalities... like “popstar”...
      Oh and one of them needs prescription glasses but the rest of them don’t? What the fuck. That is literally impossible. You can’t physically change your eyes at will (as in your body can’t). And the same for one of them being left handed too. If one of them is left handed then that means she is ambidextrous.
      The whole thing with DID is that it’s supposed to be you split into different people. So all of the personalities come together to make one individual - they just split when something traumatic/problematic happened. So it makes no sense for all of these things to be part of one individual. I do believe in DID but I do not believe in people creating their own delusional characters and masquerading as that. Personality disorder much.

      Emily McC who is Jess?

    • @amandas7368
      @amandas7368 5 лет назад +241

      Emily McC Emily McC Actually, your need for prescription glasses can change with how tense you are, and just to give an example: kids with ADHD can need to get special eye drops before examination because they might not need glasses on their medication, but they need them off it.
      Handedness is actually related to verbal processing, and since different parts of the brain are active with different alters (yes there has been studies done on this, and no it isn’t as sci-fi as it sounds. Obviously they need to do more research to understand it, but it can be related to how the neural pathways have been activated in specific situations) it isn’t at all strange that one alter can be left-handed while Jess is right-handed. It wouldn’t make her ambidextrous, because then she’d be able to switch at ease.
      When it comes to the alters being popstars and the like - alters are ultimately created by the mind of a child. I think that is easy to forget when you see an adult with DID. How would a child portray their dream protector, dream sibling, so on so forth?
      Look, there are people who claim to have DID that I doubt from a neurological standpoint. Jess isn’t one of them, the way their system manifests makes a lot of sense, actually. I stay open to everything though, because there is a lot I don’t know yet, and something that seems strange to me might have a perfectly logical explanation with more knowledge.
      The brain is a truly marvellous thing, and there is danger in mistrusting people when you don’t actually really know what you are talking about. I have learned to ask ’how could this be?’ instead of deciding that it couldn’t, and then I try to find out. It helps me learn, and means I won’t dismiss people who deserve to be heard. I recommend it.

      I don don't think you understand how this disorder works. Children don't have an integrated personality, so when repeated childhood trauma happens, the integration process doesn't happen. Those pieces of the whole 'would he's person develop their own personality. The brain has also gained a new coping mechanism, so I'm a very stressful time a new alter can be created.

    One of my friends has this disorder. The first time I witnessed it was alarming. She has at least 6 different "people" existing in her mind. Unlike Jess, however, my friend has no memory of these other identities when she is herself. She doesn't know when they make their appearance, or remember any of it. It's terrifying for her, because she has no idea when they are going to appear. They will appear usually when she is in a stressful or difficult situation. She was the victim of sexual abuse as a child and it continued until she was a teenager. It is her way of coping with the horrific things she endured.

      @sharyn57 5 лет назад +62

      It sounds like your friend needs to find herself an experienced therapist if she hasn't already, who can help her through the journey of healing from the trauma she experienced. The amnesia you describe is quite common, especially in the early stages of therapy, but given time and effective therapy she will become more aware of what is happening and be able to control it. Communicating with her alters is the key and keeping a journal is a good means for each alter to express themselves and allow the host personality to gain insight into her condition. She also needs to feel supported by her family and friends and I encourage you to learn as much as possible about DID but keep in mind that every person affected by this disorder is different. It's very difficult to overcome the effects of abuse but I hope your friend finds peace and healing.

    Coming from someone who has this disorder it pains me to see people being so harsh towards those who don't understand it. Many of you sound like the Doctors who tried to tell me how I feel. Every case is a little different. We are not all the same. I also have a Seizure Disorder on top of it and it took a long time to get diagnosed correctly because everyone wanted to TELL ME what I was experiencing. Just because you study something doesn't make you an expert. Unless you actually have it you have no idea what it is like. You are no different from the people asking questions. I had one Doctor who laughed at me when I described my seizure symptoms (before being officially diagnosed by my Savior Dr). While chuckling she was all, "I have never heard of that". I was all, "You never heard of people smelling things before a seizure?" I even told her my sister and cousin have seizure disorders. She still wrote me up as "Mental Diagnosis". It took having a grand mal seizure in front of students in the classroom for me to be properly diagnosed. Had they not been telling me I was mental I would have been on proper meds. Good think it didn't happen while I was driving. So just because you are a Doctor or Student does not mean you know what you are talking about.

    DID is both beauitful in the sense that its truly amazing what our bodies and minds are capable of doing to protect us, but also devastating. At the heart of it the reality is, somewhere along the line someone with DID saw or experienced something so traumatic that it literally fractured your psyche in a last dash attempt to save you. Yet, in all truth the core of who you are ends up locked inside your own cage. Things like this make me question how much we are actually incontrol of our minds, and how much our subconscious dictates.

      Second oldest is an alcoholic and her husband (boyfriend? They got a divorce, but are back together.) He's 25 years older than her.
      Youngest lived in a different state, can't even look at her oldest brother because he look like his dad.
      (My dad has 5 siblings)

    I had a secret alter from the age of 10 through 45. "Marjorie" appeared after a trauma, but I lived through her without letting on to others. Being that we were both female, it was easier to conceal. When I was Kathy, I dressed one way, when Marjorie, I preferred other styles. Kathy got A's in school, whereas Marjorie was content with B's and C's. Kathy was into the arts, a bit of a loner, bohemian. Marjorie was into sports, traveled with a gang of neighborhood friends. Kathy was serious; Marjorie, inclined to mischief and irreverence. People on the outside just thought of me as highly intelligent, eccentric, someone who didn't fit the expected mould, so whether I was Marjorie or Kathy, it did the matter. I always knew however, that I was essentially Kathy and Marjorie's presence was to uphold Kathy. So what happened at 45? After a tumultuous decade of riding an emotional roller coaster, I crash landed. A terrific counselor and psychiatrist assisted me to recognize and accept who I am and to understand who Marjorie was. Does she still exist? Yes, but no longer as my alter, she's more of a friend from my past. We've both moved on, so to speak. At this time I was also greatly aided by resuming the practice of religion that I'd loved as an innocent child.

      jennybean as you saw in the video she had no idea what was happening, it’s not something people just decide to do one day. it’s subconscious & pretty uncontrollable. everyone reacts to trauma differently & people with DID don’t have a say as to whether or not they have it, like 99% of mental illnesses

      DID can only happen to a child under the age of about 7-9 I believe. When a child's mind and personality is still forming. After DID has been established, a new alter can break off at any time in the body's life because that defense mechanism is part of the brain, similar to a learned skill.

      To explain why this happens, basically, when humans are born, they exist as several ego states, rather than one solid, unified personality. These ego states are responsible for making sure all of our needs are met. One is responsible for making sure we get fed, another is responsible for making sure we're clean, another is responsible for attachment, etc, etc, etc.
      Usually between the ages of 5 and 9, these ego states connect and form one unified personality. After that, it is impossible to develop DID. However, sometimes when an individual goes through repeated childhood trauma, these ego states can't integrate. For example, one ego state might see a caregiver as a source of food, but another sees that caregiver as a source of danger. These differing views means those two ego states cannot integrate. Amnesia walls are put up between them, and they develop into their own individual people, with their own names, wants, likes, dislikes, etc. Once this happens as a child, the brain learns to create these amnesia walls, and can do so again in response to stress when the person is older, which can create completely new people. So you end up with multiple individual people all sharing a body, brain, and life.

    I have lived with this condition since I was a small child, compounded with bipolar disorder and ADHD. These days I wonder if those two other conditions are those of my alters. I was raped as a small child by a relative, and subjected to a parent who also was abused and split as a young boy. He was chronically abused as a foster child, and brought those alters forward as an adult. My brother also has a number of alters, so let's just say, life's been a bizarre ride, lots of adventures, dangers and poor life decisions. In the midst of it all I raised a child with pronounced developmental issues. I completely understand this young lady, she reminds me so much of myself. I am also ambidextrous with certain things. Playing golf, softball is all played from the left side of my body. I also have different wardrobes, I love men's clothes and I know there are a number of "guys" living inside of me. this is why I so get along with men, most of my alters are male. I was hypersexual in my teens and into my early 40s, and that alter was a prostitute. She was difficult, hard to deal with because she was very predatorial with men. So if anyone thinks this woman is putting it on, walk a few miles in her shoes (mine) and get back to me on this. I also have a small child that is always with me, she's love, love loves to shop, her alter and my gay male alter in his 20s get out of control with spending. I went to treat a shopping addiction with disassociative disorder, not fully understanding the condition. This only came about in the last month. I am still alive, I that is a miracle. Thank God I was an excellent student and voraciously consumed information pertaining to mental health. My family is full of truly crazy people, but I am the one with all the titles.

    I have a friend with DID and honestly Jess is in such a good space and is so lucky with what she has and I'm so happy for her, especially after the trauma she faced. My friend is not as lucky. She was diagnosed less than a year ago and is having difficulty finding a great doctor like Jess has and she has struggled severely because of it. She has a loving and understanding spouse which is a huge help, but her friend group is small and sadly not living near her (including me) so we can't physically hang out very often even to the point that I have not been formally introduced to her alters in person. It has gotten to the point that she doesn't feel comfortable with finishing her education. I wish this was a condition more known of and more researched because I hate that she is struggling so much because no one within hundreds of miles of her can treat her.

Validation from others and validation towards yourself. We are all just trying to live our best lives with what we have, and everyone is hurting. Before denouncing the multiplicity and me system, or any DID system, consider opening your mind to what consciousness and existence really mean

      Every system is very different. DID is literally a defense mechanism, so most times the goal is to keep it hidden. Some well functioning systems like to express their individuality and are more open to choosing to share the body and give each alter time to front (be in the driver's seat). Some systems have alters that only come out when necessary, and therefore wouldn't feel the need to "be themselves" like wearing different clothes or makeup or whatever, they are out because they are needed to fulfill a duty in a sense.
      And in day to day living, sometimes a switch can happen so many times that it just isn't feasible to change clothes that many times.
      Most times that I have seen people with DID have alters wear different clothes is for the purpose of either showing a differentiation for camera, or because the alters jury want to dress how they personally prefer.

    • @R_S747
      @R_S747 6 лет назад +36

      Switches can happen at any time for any reason. Switching only when stressed is the experience of some systems not others. Just because the person you dated was one way does not mean that every person with DID has to be that way as well.

    I'm subscribed to her RUclips channel, I just found out about Jess only months ago, and I love her! I've been so intrigued by this whole thing, and watched a few other stories as well. Jess seems happy, and it's so cool to see how she manages everything. I know others have a very hard time with their day to day, I feel like Jess gives hope to others. 💜

    once saw someone suffering from d.i.d that had one alter who selfharmed and was suicidal. imagine coming back to the hosts consciousness and realize that youve inflicted horrible injuries and have no recollection of it.
