I don't listen to country. My best friend whom I met in the military was a country boy from NC. He attempted to get me to like country by showing me this song. I ended up liking this song but mostly because it reminds me of him. He passed away suddenly at age 21 from a rare heart condition that he never told me about. So occasionally I'll come here and listen to it as an ode to my ole buddy.

I used to love it as a kid, even tho I wasn’t big on country, and I never knew I was Native American until I turned 18. Thankfully after writing the tribe every couple years, they had a tribal meeting and made me a member at 25, past the allowed age of initiation.

My Paw Paw was a proud Monacan who would've turned 98 this year. He grew up on the reservation in a house with a dirt floor. Served in the Pacific in WWII as a cook on a ship off the coast of Luzon. Some of his father's personal items are in the Monacan Museum.
Proud of my Native heritage! This song kicks ass!
I've been a Tim McGraw fan since I was 14 (30 years! Whaaaaaaaat?) when this song came out. I just saw him live for the first time two nights ago when my sweet co-worker surprised me with amazing seats at his show in Atlanta (serendipitous with our work travel) and it was 🔥🔥🔥! He didn't play this song, but he puts on an incredible show!

So sad......This is one of Tim's best, if not his best song. Yet so few views and likes. Maybe just because I'm from north Georgia, and even lived in Cherokee County for a while, but I love to listen to this song loud and proud on any back road or main street. No song like it was made or has been made, a total one of a kind from back when country music was still good.
