    my mirage has put more smiles on peoples faces then any car my family has owned, took the mirage in a parade one time, had surf boards on top, moved cross country and more, don’t need a fast car to have fun

      Wow thats awesome! I have a ton of fun driving this car as its not fast and hearing the 3 cylinder engine run and work under acceleration and whipping this lil thing around is fun you are so right.
      I get asked questions about this car more than any car I have owned with my 2010 Kia Soul Exclaim in Alien Green being close second as we was one of the first people in town to own one and they just came out people really liked it but with in a year they were everywhere and it died off lol. Its funny isn’t it how everyday people like the Mirage. They say wow its cute or I love the plaid seats. I get asked about MPG alot and when people get in it they always say the same thing it has alot more room than they expected. Also people have the misperception that being so small and having so little power that it cant go 65 mph and stay there easily and when ai have let people drive it to see how easily it can do that speed they are shocked. Part of this I think with people is the auto critic reviews who in their head compare this to all other cars they drive but the Mirage does exactly what it was intended for and what the owners want who purchase them.

    Thank you for making this video. The Mirage's Ds mode doesn't get enough credit. As you can see in this video, the performance is pretty amazing all things considered, but reviewers very rarely even mention it and then complain about the performance. You can safely switch between D and Ds at any speed, so it's best to go back and forth as needed for performance or engine braking. The mirage has a unique transmission that actually has a conventional 2 speed gearbox in addition to the CVT, which results in a pretty high gear ratio and impressive low-end torque for its class. The CVT is also designed in such a way that it has much less friction compared to other CVTs in the same class, which helps with both efficiency and reliability. In terms of the value and reliability you get with this car, nothing even comes close in my opinion.

      Thank you for watching and commenting! I must say I can feel a difference in Ds for sure! Much more peppy. It does work good for engine braking too which is what ai had used it for before when coming down steep hills but never really ever for acceleration purposes but now I will lol for the fun of it.
      It sounds like a pretty impressive little CVT unit. I know the CVT-7 in the Mirages has been very reliable especially for a CVT which I am happy for and have had no issues with any CVT in my 2015, 2017 or my current 2021 Mirage. I have read something about the 2 step gearbox thing it’s interesting and now Im going to read on it again lol. You can also feel the idle neutral logic kick in at times while the car is sitting right after you stop. Then you can feel the transmission engage as you let off the brake pedal and move to the gas pedal to go. I must say I am very impressed at how the Mirages with this CVT and only 3 cylinders and 78 horsepower can easily hold 70 mph up hill on the interstate with no issue. Small cars back in the day with small engines and 3 speed automatics that was not the case and they had to constantly kick up and down gears to maintain speed. I am very much a fan of CVTs especially in small cars with small engines as they do an amazing job keeping it in its power/torque band.
      Thank you for the comment and cool info on the CVT unit.

      idk, 7-8 seconds to hit 40mph is very poor. Fine for city driving but not adequate for some situations.

    • @brucewayne8590
      @brucewayne8590 2 года назад

      @@basslover352 Look at the video time, it's 6 seconds, which included a left turn and the wheels spinning. 0-40 in 6 seconds is 0-60 in 9 seconds. I wouldn't call that very poor for an economy car, even despite the fact that he didn't do a proper test. He should have started on a straight-away. You can get even better acceleration by starting in "L" and moving up to "Ds".

    • @basslover352
      @basslover352 2 года назад

      @@brucewayne8590 closer to 7. no one is doing 9 0-60 in a cvt mirage. Manual is maybe possible but still a little optimistic. Either way it's one of the slowest cars sold today no matter how you look at it. You can argue it's a good value but it does not make that statement false. I see better value in paying a few k more for a much nicer overall car.

      @@basslover352 It's a pointless conversation if you can't even measure time, let alone do basic math. And you're completely ignoring the fact that he started with a left turn and spun. You're in denial.

      Yea my 2015 had the D and B only. Yea the Ds gives it a boost and keeps revs high in turn making it more responsive and power more readily available

    It's funny, the auto reviewer junta made the proclamation years ago the Mirage sucks.......all the while lying about the car. The one that always gets me is "the engine is buzzy at highway speed, the transmission sounds harsh".
    I can only assume they are taking manual tranny models out onto the highway, sticking them in 3rd gear and pushing for 70 mph with the engine screaming and then saying "see, listen to how loud the motor is!". I bought a 2022 Mirage SE for may college age daughter (her first car), the thing accelerates just fine and when cruising at 70 mph the CVT has the engine revving in the 2500 rpm range - it just quietly hums along. In town in the 45 - 50 mph range it runs at 1500 rpm.
    Quite frankly, these so called "professional" auto "journalists" lie extensively about Mitsubishi's in general and the Mirage specifically.
    Here's a question, ever come across a Mirage owner who hates their Mirage? I haven't, it's quite the opposite.

    • @kmckenzie2461
      @kmckenzie2461  2 года назад +1

      I am with you 100%!!! The auto reviewers miss the mark with this car totally. Also yes the CVT cruises very quietly in town and at speeds up to 60 mph and keeps the rpms very low. Now the CVT revs the engine up on hills but thats to keep it in its power band and to keep it climbing the hill at a steady pace with out reving up and down or losing speed and it handles hills very well for this super small engine. Compare this lil 3 Cylinder Mirage with 78 horsepower on a hill to like a 4 Cylinder 90s model year Toyota Tercel with the 3 speed automatic or a late 90s model year Chevy Metro LSi with the 3 speed automatic and its night and day. This car has no trouble keeping up with traffic or interstate speeds at 70 mph in my area. I love them and have owned 3 Mirages. My co work Kay has had 3 Mirages also and I personally have never came across an owner who does not like their Mirage. I know I love mine and congrats on that 2022 Mirage thats awesome! I believe their are great cars that run well, will be easy to maintain, are loaded with features, have a long warranty, and have a tested and proven (3A92) engine along with a very reliable CVT (Jatco CVT 7) that has proven to be much more reliable than most other CVTs. I personal like that the Mirage offers manual and CVT transmissions and also overs several trim lines for if some one wants a base model or a fully loaded model like me you have choices and option and accessories! Thank you for the comment!

    D's also makes the CVT alot tighter so it puts more power through to the wheels. Didn't know that the CVT could spin the tires though. I use to always blow the front tires even when dry with the 5 speed in first and second gear

    • @kmckenzie2461
      @kmckenzie2461  2 года назад +1

      Ok that makes since cause you can feel the difference in Ds immediately after take of the CVT revs up a-lot more quickly vs that initial hold until a certain speed then dropping off for economy and lower the rpms. The Ds mode really does make it feel “as you say” tighter for sure. It makes the available power feel a-lot more accessible with a lil more engine noise and engine braking when stopping. I was shocked it spun the wheels and these Vredestein Quatrac tires having amazing grip in the dry/wet/snow but you can hear it in the video some. Part of it may have been cause I was turn as I was flooring it. I bet the 5 speeds really feel peppy and can spin the tires like you said! Cool.

      @@kmckenzie2461 yeah, I noticed it likes to keep the revs high and that in Ds mode it almost feels like it's in a set gear. It's nice to feel especially since alot of people think it's a gimmick. But it does improve the "performance"

    Best looking Mirage in the US is yours! I never use the Ds personally though, if I have to merge onto a fast hwy off a short on ramp, I just turn the AC off for 10 seconds and just push it to 3500 rpms for a sec. Folks that own these know these cars are more than capable on American hwys. It just louder compared to say a Chrysler 300 but nothing stock speakers can't handle. Excellent vids as always!!!

      Thank you! I really love it. Thats funny I never use it either lol. Like never haha. Someone asked about it for a acceleration video so I did it lol. These cars are totally fine you got it and have no problem for such a small engine. What do you need. I watch a video the other day with a V6 from the 80s with same 0-60 time as Mirage. I love how gruff the the engine is for its size. Just awesome little cars.

    Nice Demo, I've been curious about DS mode on my 2019 ASX black edition. Do you find that the gear change comes into effect around 5000rpm?

    • @kmckenzie2461
      @kmckenzie2461  Месяц назад +1

      It really adjust it right away. Even going downhill it works as an engine brake. It tends to keep the rpms like 1,500 higher but at top rpm when floored the rpms are basically the same in D or in Ds when in the 5,000 to 6,000 rpm range.

    I have a question. What kind of bracket did you use to mount the rear license plate? I just purchased a 2022 and there is no reinforcement behind the rear bumper cover, making it impossible to mount the plate

    • @ficklefingeroffate
      @ficklefingeroffate 2 года назад

      Just use the mounting screws that some with the car - don't over tighten the screws or you will strip out the holes. Maybe that's the problem you have, the screw holes are stripped out?
      If you need to, get yourself some lock nuts for you mounting screws, you can access the inside rear of the bumper from under the backside of the car.

    It has the advantage of being lightweight

    • @kmckenzie2461
      @kmckenzie2461  2 года назад +2

      You got it and that really helps it get the amazing fuel milage numbers, allows the low horsepower and low torque figures of the 1.2L naturally aspirated 3 cylinder to be enough power, and with its low drag coefficient combined with low weight lets it slice through the air. These cars do exactly what they were made for.
