There's one outside right now lol
Same! Last night! I heard it and wanted to know what kind it was haha
Same here two of them and I'm playing this loud and they are pissed
I’m so scared there’s a really loud one and a full moon AHHH 😂
There’s two having a rap battle right now for me
Nah man, it's just RUclips.
Im at work and I hear this hooting sound. It amazes me that such a beautiful, majestic creature like an owl is just chilling here in the suburbs.
its 2am here i heard this noise outta nowhere scared the shitt outta me at first until i googled owl sounds lol
It’s bad lucky wdym😀
They thrive in all environments but are rarely seen. Their camouflage is incredible. And they fly silently do to their feathers.
@@Carlinisalive Same haha happened to me
last night
It’s 6:30 AM and we got one in the middle of the city in Nashville.
Currently listening to a few of these owls having a midnight chat outside my house, over the din of the Spring peepers. Their calls are echoing through the valley. This is what keeps me in the countryside.
I live in the suburbs about 5 miles from the city and we hear them all the time. But I’m jealous, I wanna live in the countryside. One day...
I live in the suburbs and hear them all night. We have a small section of trees and shrubbery between the road and the house and there’s always been an owl living there all my life.
I’m glad people think like this. They are a bad omen in like every culture and so those cries would rarely be enjoyed anywhere else in the world.
I am from the midwest...what my parents used to call Spring Peepers ended up being the Western Chorus Frog. But I know that Spring Peepers do exist even in the midwest. What I wanted to say is that I have preserved some of the Pacific Chorus frogs from the last vernal pool existing upon our San Diego mesa. I also brought other frogs from other areas of San Diego including the mountains so now I have this mixed genetic pool of Pacific Chorus Frogs that have created a stable population in our garden in the middle of a city! We use various tubs ranging from 15 gal to 50 gal. Right now they are singing in between the hoots of our female Great Horned Owl.
Here is the punch line: I have this viable "mix" of genotypes of the Pacific Chorus Frog- alias Pacific Tree Frog (because they have large toe-pads unlike others of the Chorus Frog genus... can climb vertical surfaces even glass... they were improperly identified!!!) This viable mix has been surviving and breeding in my garden since 1989!!!!!
Should you want to entice Spring Peepers of Chorus Frogs to your garden tubs or pools (absolutely NO FISH!) would have to be at ground level as none of these would be capable of climbing the 12 in to 24 in sides of a tub!
I cannot show you pics here!!! I had one with a male singing with his dew-lap fully extended and a cluster of tadpoles upon a waterlily leaf! So much for technology here...
We were having a problem with mice entering our garage. Started hearing a great horned owl at night. About a week later, we no longer had a mice problem 🦉👍
Really? That's interesting! I heard two in the trees above my chicken yard last week. There are mice out there. Maybe they were after mice rather than my chickens. Who knows? :)
@@maggiesfarm7970 I hope so!
Np, we got u
This is why I am playing their mating calls :)
Chido 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I was trying to figure out what kind of bird I heard tonight outside my window. This is it lol.
PLS CUZ SAME
Sameee
Me too lmao
Yep, all the sounds I looked up didn’t match until I heard this. It’s spot on!
Me too!🦉💖🦉
I hear an owl outside every night when I lay down. It’s like she’s saying goodnight to me.
Umm it is scary you know you should search in google it does have a meaning
@@bunnyshana3641 Are you referring to Owls being known as the omen of Death? Yeah that does not surprise me. It’s still beautiful.
@@cherrelle9964 I’m sure it’s just a superstition, owls are animals, not supernatural beings. I love owls!
@@Lylaris_or_Garuk Yeah I’m not worried about it. Besides Death is inevitable for all of us. I’m going to appreciate the beauty of these creatures.
@@Lylaris_or_Garuk owls are magical
I played this out my window and got a response from the neighbor owl😂
Haha. I was just about to try that…
Trying it right now!
I just did this too! Got out my speaker. Neat
I heard a repetitive shriek tonight and walked around outside until I found it coming from a telephone pole at the end of the street. Sure enough--it was a great horned owl at the very top. What a treat!!!
I'm at Tenkiller Lake in Oklahoma. A Great Horned Owl is hooting his heart out in a tree very close. What an awesome, and even soothing, sound to listen to.
Came here to make sure my new friend outside was indeed a Great Horned Owl. 🦉💖🦉
We live in WA state. Just took my young son outside to hear the "chatter" and tell him how lucky we are to live in a place where we can just step out and listen.
I can hear 2 or 3 of them talking to each other all night for the last week or so… I’m obsessed with owls, I hope I get blessed enough to see it.
There’s like, 6 of these guys outside my house tonight in the woods.
It's 15 degrees and a windy night in the Connecticut woods, right before a snowstorm, and a great horned is like 20 ft from my window. Awesome.
That is a pretty picture you just painted! Enjoy!
Just moved to CT recently. Currently hear two of them going back and forth. We came from PA and only got to hear the small ones
Owls hands down best birds
Love hearing these gorgeous creatures at night!!
Yup this is definitely what woke me up last night
There's one hooting outside my window near Gettysburg. Nice to identify it.
this is the best video I could find for the Great Horned Owl
Ours usually call back and fourth. Its so cute to hear the calls get closer and more frequent until they find each other
Had my window open and just started hearing “huooh” out of nowhere lol
he is my nighttime companion right now and I love the sound!
I am witnessing the sound of the great horned owls in real time!
Listening to a Great Horned Owl in my backyard at 12:45 a.m. My yard borders conservation land here on Cape Cod. I love to listen to owls in the "wee small hours"! :)
I'd hear this call at 3:00 am in the dead of winter in the Connecticut countryside. One would call and then in the far distance you'd hear an answer. Magical.
I heard one of these fellas last night and it was awesome!
Thank you for putting this video out of the sounds made by great horned owl. There is one very nearby that I'm listening to right now and suspected what kind of owl it was but wanted to make sure. I love living away from the city and large-ish towns. We've been watching a doe and two young fawns (mule deer) grow up this summer, they've been hanging out in our back yard. The baby prairie quail have grown larger, the baby bunnies are almost adults, and there are hummingbirds who make sure I keep their feeder fresh and full. Nature is the best entertainment!
woke up in the middle of the night. I could hear the hooting of this owl. So beautiful.
I love owls so much, man. I'm not really an expert on them or anything, but I just admire them so much. Such beautiful birds. I wish I lived somewhere where I could hear these calls in person. :)
heard these majestic birds outside my window waking up from a nap… their hoots are absolutely beautiful 🦉❤️
Got spooked by this guy tonight! We usually don't get owls where we live!
Same here. I live in the city in the downtown area and I kept hearing this hooting! Totally surprised me.
@@isntlifebetter that was just me playing this same video from the Sky rise across the street.
@@Maxdubi lmao!!!
Alright! I have been waiting for another owl video and it’s here now. This takes me back to one of my backpacking trips when I heard two great horned owls communicating with each other from across a lake.
It must have been a wonderful trip among wildlife.
He's outside above our light post
I just had a conversation with one thanks to this video!
I love owls. My neighbor just texted that she has an owl hanging out….I think it’s a great horned! Can’t wait to hear it
Currently in my bed, balcony door cracked open a bit, listing to a spring rain on the lake, and a couple of Great horned Owls calling to each other in the trees. A Barred owl has now entered the chat as well 😂
But what a wonderful way to settle in for a good sleep.
Good night, everyone. Sweet dreams,🌙☁️🦉
I just heard my first "whoo who whooo" ever and immediately looked this up by name as if I already knew. I'm in a downtown neighborhood in Weaverville, NC right outside of Asheville and have never heard the Great Horned Owl until now. It jarred me at first and made me wonder if someone in the neighborhood was making that sound to screw around but then when it changed directions and at 2am, I hoped I was hearing this. Sure enough. Very cool and feels like a rare moment to experience. I love owls in general and have heard many but this was another level. Such majestic creatures.
When I first heard them, I also thought someone was messing with me. They're very loud and kept me awake. They make sounds almost like ducks too. Screeches, pops, hisses and more. Was much happier when I knew it was an owl and not a human.
Calling last night on the pond I live on! love them!
Finally the answer! They have so much variation it took a few videos to replicate what I heard outside. Got a pair in my treeline. Villa Rica, Georgia; mid September
For a while now there was a family of Great Horned Owls in the trees across from my house. We had a big storm hit a while back and I haven’t heard them since until tonight. Hoping to use this sound to hear them again and know they’re alright. I love owls they’re such beautiful and graceful creatures.
Thank you! Had 3 of these beauties calling to eachother in different trees around my house. It was amazing to listen to.
We hear these right outside our house :)
That unmistakable sound. One was just outside my house making a higher pitched version of that sound.
As an artist, I tend to stay up late at night working on projects, and I always heard this hooting outside. I always wanted to know what kind of owl it was. I originally thought it was one of those barn owls I saw all the time hunting near the foot of the mountain/very tall hills (I live with my family on a horse ranch near the bay area). but then I learned that they screech more than they hoot, so I looked it up, found this video and I can now confirm this is the right owl. So cool :D
One outside my window in Harrisburg PA, in the middle of the city. Super cool!
We have a resident owl here in Woodland Hills, CA, which I have only seen quick glimpses of. Thanks to your video, we're now sure it's a Great Horned Owl. Love it!
Thank you! I have at least 2 or 3 around my house that have been talking with eachother tonight and I had no clue of the species, so I turned to youtube for answers. But this definitely sounds like them! So thank you so much for posting ❤️
If you enjoy them (some people think they're a nuisance). I play this on my speaker (just the first 50 some seconds, not that screechy stuff). It is amazing that I can call them in at will almost. Try it, your house may be the next hangout. Sometimes they hang out all night, but that doesn't bother me a bit. They can get a bit noisy, but I'm able to sleep through it if I want. I enjoy having them around.
Oh goodness. I finally know what is screaming right out side my back door. Seriously loves this tree 50 feet away.
Three of them literally kept me up for an hour outside my window last night
This is the sound I hear in my backyard every night. It's a great horned owl.
This is the sound of being a kid and playing outside and hearing your parents call "its getting late now, its time for bed". is this just me?
You talk about neat??? Yes I have and seen many times without a doubt. Really heard from. Loved them every time.Special treat.🦉
Theres at least 2 of these in my neighborhood right now. Funnily enough, they only seem to be around, around January and February. Last year after they were here I went on a walk and found some pellets, it was so cool! I saw one of them fly over the road last year too, course it was around 2 am, so I just saw the silhouette, but it was still amazing. Just going outside to hear them going fills me with so much childish wonder and glee.
I just heard this owl hooting in Marietta, Georgia. I'll try to spot it.
I don't know why, but I'm just imagining you finding a cellphone in a tree with this video playing at full volume and it's giving me the giggles. It's probably the sleep deprivation♥︎.
@@shriekinggoblin3021 lol, that would be funny.
Bruh these are everywhere where I live in Georgia
Absolutely gorgeous birds. When I’m on my walk at the end of the day and it’s getting dark, I sometimes hear these guys hooting - it gives me the chills!
I’ve found this very useful as I call with a loud speaker to attract great horned owls in the area
WOW THIS IS SO RELATEABLE!!!!
I’m using this on loop as one of the sound effects for my Halloween display. There are lots of GHOs where I live, so it fits right in. Maybe we’ll even attract a visitor or two.
How are you looping it
I’m playing this for an owl in my backyard right now
Me too
How did it go? I have done this with Bard Owls and gotten responses. I have since found out that if you have Bard owls around there won’t be any great horned owls and vice versa.
I enjoy seeing stuff like this even when I close my eyes 🙂
Now that's pretty close too what I heard last night!
We have one outside right now! We would love to see it!
So I’m hearing this rn in New York. It’s probably farther in my backyard as it seems like the owls never want to get to close to the house.
Thanks for this video. I'm here in Durham, NC where I heard what was very clearly the call of an owl coming from the thicket of Loblolly pines adjacent to my home about 3:00 this morning. There's so much land development going on here in Durham that I'm wondering where these critters will find habitat in another decade or so. I'm near the American Tobacco Trail where the wooded area is pretty much off limits for now. Yep, I do believe it was the call of a Great Horned Owl I heard. Thanks again.
I hear this exact call on my golf course as the sun starts to set. I have seen the GHO only once in 10 years. The trees where they nest are huge and very dense with leaves and branches. This golf course is a great place for them as it is out in the desert, but there are ponds and lots of wildlife around. The owls have no problem finding food.
i’ve been hearing a screech from outside for HOURS, and i finally figured out what it is!! thank you!!
I have one (or two) living in an oak tree in my yard. I live about 5 miles from O'Hare airport in the suburbs of Chicago. I am always amazed at the wildlife (deer, fox, coyote, raccoon, etc.) in my yard so close to the city. I'm about a block from the forest preserve so that helps.
Just heard one in my front yard in Florida
Beautiful hoots. I can hear two of them outside my window every night. It's 1;33am and they're going nuts out there.
I hear one of these in my yard every night. I saw him fly over once, I didn’t get a good look but his wingspan was huge.
Owls are great.
I work in the desert at hospital opening in west Texas and see two of these everyday hanging out on the high level floors on the ledges.
i live in idaho and hear these almost every night
Finally I got a name to the owl that's been hooting near my parents house for years.
Used this with a loud speaker and got one to fly up and land in the trees above us, Huge owl, long wingspan, beautiful birds !
Me too. if I hear one off in the distance, I play this. next thing ya know, you got 2, 3, or 4 hanging out at your place. They don't get the speaker thing, several times they've landed within 8 feet of me to check out this owl sounding human, lol! they are as fun as they are massive!
I heard our Great Horned Owl for the first time this year on 3/9/22. The animal is huge and is not shy as it followed me on night walks in the woods and garden. It showed up to our neighborhood East of Ilwaco, WA, last year and our two cats disappeared. They were smart outdoor cats but this owl is the best hunter and is absolutely stealth due to their soft feathers when swooping in for the kill.
I'm in Madison Wisconsin and actually caught one of my neighborhood's great horned owls attacking an adult cat out for a late night stroll. It was crazy!
I'm so sorry. I had no idea they went after adult cats until I saw it with my own 2 eyes. Wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't there. Thankfully I just happened to be there and scared it off.
I just brought my cat inside for the night as we have these owls around our house! They land in our yard every night and the mocking birds literally fly at the owl on the ground! The owl will run across the lawn and kick at the birds! Quite a show!!😂
During sundown, I walked in the meadows & had "Falling" by Julee Cruise playing. At the forest's edge, I paused the song as I began to hear two great horned owls calling to one another. I could only make out the silhouette of one, who later flew further away, but it was a special moment to me. I really hope to stumble upon an owl in daylight some day.
It's 10:46 in Shad Bay NS and this is definitely the owl I hear, I've been listening to clips trying to figure out what owl I hear for the last 15 minutes and this is definitely it.
Had two of them outside of my window last night having a good conversation together.
Wow, RUclips knows I've been searching up owls lately. Mostly the Eurasian eagle-owl, but I did also look at the Great horned owl.
We live in coastal SC and hear them in our backyard a few times a week. Early this morning my wife caught one sitting on our fountain drinking for about 3 or 4 minutes. She said he was HUGE!
Listening to one of these majestic bird right now outside my window just after ringing in the new year.
I would give almost anything to see & hear one in the wild....WOW!!!
I live out in the country, in the PNW, and I have an owl.
I've identified it by listening to owl tapes...it's a great horned owl. 🥰
Listening to a great horned owl in my backyard right now, 9:20pm. Cicero, NY
I grew up in North Dakota and these things were everywhere; you could hear them but never spot them. My favorite bird call of all time and when combined with crickets will put you to sleep so fast on a cool summer night with a window open that you wouldn't even know what happened.
I have two owls that live in my neighborhood I hear them every night.
Just went out to my car on Long Island. One of these fellas is in an old oak across the street!❤️
What a pretty hoot
There’s one in tierrasanta CA right now. Never knew they were here
I had to watch this video to find out what kind of owl I've been hearing the last few days. Im certain it's a great horned owl now. The first hooting of this video is what I've heard before.
One is very close by, it’s amazing how deep and powerful that low tone is ! I’m shocked I thought it would be outside my door with how it sounded but I could tell it’s coming from a distance on the woods still fairly close , amazing 🤩 such a beautiful animal I heard one with a high pitch “hoo” as well lol they probly getting nastyyy rn bruh it got too quiet 😂
Yeah, just had my first experience and that deep booming low tone of their voice at 2am, really just feels alien and unreal at first until you realize what it is. So cool to know that there's one around. Beautiful animal indeed.
In music, they talk about overtones. Those are the other tones or pitches that go along with the primary note. No recording of a band or orchestra can sound like live performance and the great horned owl is the same. First time my young dog heard one on a night walk, he stopped in his tracks. If you are under or near the tree, the sound is so deep and it reverberates. It’s like you can feel it in your body.
I hear those futhernuckers but i cant put eyes on them! Was blessed and saw a Barred Owl lately!
My animal spirit!
This Evening in Arizona and i hear the great horned owl! Mostly hear spring time.
Thank you very much for the beautiful information. Definitely I have great respects for owls and all animals.
I have 2 outside right now in Blue Ridge Summit, PA
just called one in! he's right above our heads!
I did this because I heard a owl that comes every few months and he responded to it for like 20 minutes but then he finally stopped so amazing!
