We're torn between the cx5 and cx30, this video helps alot. Still not sure what we'll do since I fell in love with the 30 and hate to give it up but the 5 is more practical. Appreciate your reviews.
We bought the CX-30 because we're empty nesters and really didn't need the space that the CX-5 offers (we also have an Explorer) so why pay the extra monies? The wife loves the sport car feel compared to her old cuv, a Chevy Trax. If we were younger and buying a car now with kids, the 5 would be the one, without kids, it would be the 30. I really like the looks of the 30 and the reputation of Mazda in general, but like all cars, it has some minor flaws that we're able to live with. The big flaw for me is, as you pointed out, is the fuel tank. Heck, my weedeater has a big tank 🤣
The fuel tank! That’s my complaint too. I feel like I’m always at the gas station! The blind spots are a bit of problem too. Luckily I have the Preferred trim which has blind spot monitoring but still…it’s really hard to see past those pillars.
Looks like the refreshed CX5 allows those who like the older tech and other design/engineering elements to get their hands on one, but the CX50 is the whole new package moving forward.
I was considering a 2022 CX-5 Carbon or Premium back in Feb, 2022, but opted for a 2022 CX-30 Carbon instead - mainly due to its smaller size & sleeker styling. I would choose a CX-5 over a CX-50 any day though, since something about the CX-50's clunky styling/shape/proportions is a bit off-putting to me. So far I have been happy with my 2022 CX-30 CE in the 13 months that I have had it. No build quality defects found, no issues, no cabin rattles or vibrations. Much nicer than my previous, problematic & poorly-built 2020 Corolla SE sedan.
Excellent vis as always. We reviewed the CX-50 and styling and space wise liked it better than the CX-5. But the CX-5 just feels more nimble and rides better on its independent rear suspension. We love our long term Mazda 3 carbon tester. All Mazda models wear the Carbon Trim and polymetal grey paint very well. All the best.
I don't know that cx-30 with plastic taking over half the car and the back design makes the cx-30 look dated. On the other hand, the driving experience is much smoother and stable with the cx-30. Cabin was also more quiet imo.
I definitely noticed the NVH was very good in the 2023 CX-5 when I did a test drive. Best NVH of any Mazda I've driven so far. I also test drove the CX-50 right after, and the difference in comfort was like night and day on the same roads and highways. I like the CX-30 enough that I'd replace my Mazda CX-3 with it, but it doesn't make any financial sense for me to do so right now. But the cargo space is less than the CX-5, which is why I'm looking at the bigger vehicle right now instead of the smaller, spunkier one.
I have a 2020 cx 30, but i wish i could get an mx 5 as well. I have always been a Ford guy. But no more. Maxda just goes balls out in engineering these cars.
One of the biggest reasons i got the cx-30 is i wanted a bit more ground clearance then my old corolla but still wanted a low seating position. Honestly, if i wasn't parking in the alley i would have just gotten the mazda 3 but nobody ever shovels the snow in the alley. 😂
I choose cx30 over cx5 cuz fuel consumption difference in my c30 I can get easy 46mpg (UK) with AT and e skyactive x 186bhp as daily drivers that is hell of of difference cx5 never get even close..
Haven't seen u do a mazda 3 review. If you ever get a chance to do a review or even just sit and talk about what you think about it. Please do. You do really good reviews. Keep up the amazing work
i haven't been inside a CX5 yet, but did sit in a CX-30. I would expect the bigger CX-5 to sit higher. I don't know if it's the camera angle you're using, but it also seems like the line/border between the door & window seems a bit high making the view out the window somewhat limited/obstructed if wanting to view downward, if that makes any sense. Uncertain if this can be solved by just lifting up the bottom seat controls or not.
Great info 👍 We had a CX5 back in 2017 and loved it. Not a fan of the CX-30 tbh but the CX5 still gets admiring glances from me. These updates seem excellent, we just don't get the 2.5T engine here in the UK. Still have to make do with the diesels and a) no longer do the miles to require a diesel and b) diesel is miles more expensive than petrol here now, over 20pence, so more than 25cents a litre difference!!
I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on most things. CX-30 has a better design, drives better, and handles better in curves. The interior design is miles away from the dated CX-5. Also, you don't mention it, but the Bose sound in the CX-30 sounds way better than in the CX-5. The only advantage of the CX-5 is rear legroom space (like two inches) and cargo space; if you don't need the extra space, do yourself a favor, save 4K, and go for the CX-30.
agree with you, I test drove 2022 CX-30 and own a 2023 CX-5, the CX-30 handles way better at corners, hardly any body roll. I bought the CX-5 because I need the larger trunk space, and love the 40-2-40 rear chair fold down. I thing the 40-2-40 should be implemented in every cars.
@@Shao-wen_Wu Surprising to hear that the independant back suspension of the CX-5 isn't better at handling corners and turns (or bumps) than the rear beam suspension of the CX-30. I test drove the CX-5 and CX-50 and I found the CX-5 much smoother... I'll have to give the CX-30 a try.
IMHO CX-30 is more fun to drive, easier to park, more maneuverable, quicker, handles better, has a more modern interior. As for space, it is fine for a single person or couple.
All the new CX-5s come standard with Blind Spot Monitor/Rear Cross Traffic Alert. So by getting those upgraded safety features in the CX-30 the CX-5 is only a couple grand more. If I order a CX-5 or I would probably just buy the base model with Roof Rack Side Rails because I don't want to finance floor mats and I don't need all those other ridiculous options to jack the price up through the roof. Plus it looks like it's easier to buy a pre-owned CX-5 because the CX-30 is so new and there aren't as many of them.
We have cx30 and cx5, for me cx30 is more solid car overall, cx30 is absolutely newer platform and i notice this after driving cx5. Ride quality and overall driving dynamic of cx30 is way better than cx5
imho 😂 the 5s appearance is that of a boxy cargo hauler is heavier with same engine.. as opposed to the 30s sleek sporty look and considerably lighter making it as you said..more fun to drive ..., why I chose the 30...as for the purported lack of rear leg room we've had no issues with 6 ft tall rear passengers backseat comfort...granted exiting is a bit awkward. The 5 makes sense for those requiring easier child car seat access and the grester cargo space but for me I just wouldn't enjoy washing it as much as the 30.
I owned a 2021 CX-5 Turbo and now own a 2022 CX-30 Turbo Premium. I prefer the CX-30. The CX-5's taller profile really does show in the corners. It also did poorly in rough roads, the car would shudder and feel very uncomposed. The extra weight and older platform does show, even with the independent rear suspension.
100% does not worth it. I was given this car as a loner from Mazda when I took my CX30 GT Turbo in for service. I hated the drive of this CX5 and was very disappointed. So glad didn't get this, I love my CX30 GT turbo.
It's funny how the title states "refreshed." The current generation CX5 has not seen a major refresh since 2017. I love the car but the interior looks dated compared to the CX30.

I just got a 2019 CX5 GS w/Comfort Package. I can't even think to go with any other vehicle like CRV or RAV4. Mazda is luxurious!
Looks like the refreshed CX5 allows those who like the older tech and other design/engineering elements to get their hands on one, but the CX50 is the whole new package moving forward.

James, thanks for all the Mazda content. Appreciate it.
Just purchased a Mazda CX-5 Premium in Deep Crystal Blue Mica 💙. The Kodo design and the premium interior definitely make it worth the $.

Great video. One of the best comparisons I've seen between these two models.
Amazing and honest review

Your opinion for the benefit of the CX-5 is exactly why I am trading in my CX-30 for a 2023 CX-5
I choose cx30 over cx5 cuz fuel consumption difference in my c30 I can get easy 46mpg (UK) with AT and e skyactive x 186bhp as daily drivers that is hell of of difference cx5 never get even close..

This is a great and informative video. Thanks!
After owning a CX-30 for 8 months, I would say I’d like a CX-5 more. It’s just more practical.
Thanks for the notes.

I own 2024 cx-30. I wish they refined the 2.5 NA engine on cx-5. 2023/2024 cx-30 has 191hp, but cx-5 has 186hp. They need to make it at least 200hp.
Great review

Honestly love your videos. They are so much more genuine than others out there. I might get a Mazda! I need to test drive the models.

Nicely done
Fun to see that crazy G35 drifting out of nowhere!
I love my mazda cx5 ce!
Great in depth review 👌🏽
I found the 2023 CX-5 shifts hard, and at low speed it jerks sometimes. 9000km now and still the same. Wonder if anyone experience the same issue.
IMHO CX-30 is more fun to drive, easier to park, more maneuverable, quicker, handles better, has a more modern interior. As for space, it is fine for a single person or couple.

My 2015 mazda 3 came standard with it lol

Bigger gas tank but it’s a bigger heavier vehicle which means more fuel consumption. How much are you really gaining?
Fuel consumption is only 1 MPG more for the CX5

the cx 5 needs a complete new generation, same since 17'

Can you review the new X1?
For sure, definitely interested in reviewing the X1 if it becomes available on Turo in my area (or if someone will let me borrow theirs!)
100% does not worth it. I was given this car as a loner from Mazda when I took my CX30 GT Turbo in for service. I hated the drive of this CX5 and was very disappointed. So glad didn't get this, I love my CX30 GT turbo.
Cx30 is tiny
It's funny how the title states "refreshed." The current generation CX5 has not seen a major refresh since 2017. I love the car but the interior looks dated compared to the CX30.
Did you end up selling your CX-30? If so, why? Do you miss it at all?
he said in a different video that his wife uses it and they just bought it after the lease ended.
JP is right, we just bought ours after leasing it for 2 years :)
Cx30,50 usa is a trash compared to cx5,9 Japanese edition
So far my CX 50 after five months is proving you wrong! still no creeks or rattles, and it drives great!
