The GDP per capita for a US citizen in 1976, was $ 8,611. For 2013 it was $53,000. However, the exchange value of the dollar is less than it was in 1976. Thus the average US citizen is worse of, in real terms, in 2016. Warren indulges in a numbers game, in which the numbers that he cites, do not convey the truth of the situation.

Um, adjust for inflation and $8611 in 1976 is $36221 in todays dollars so I'd say $53,000 is a bit better.

It's interesting to hear Warren Buffett's opinion on these activist hedge fund managers since I plan on starting my own hedge fund after going through college and maybe business school. I'm considering being a value oriented activist investor like William Ackman, but maybe I'll edit my strategy eventually. College is definitely going to be exciting.
