EV's are dramatically more energy efficient than traditional cars. So carbon emissions, even if the electricity is produced using coal, is still much lower for an EV. That's only improving too, as EV's continue to improve.
No ability to think long term on the part of these politicians. He said Ontario didn't need that power in 2018 but suddenly 6 years later, they want to start adding all this new power based on their plan. If someone else created the program its bad. If we did it, it is good. They could have reworked the existing programs rather than cancel them outright and not cost Ontario taxpayers the 230 million.
He's full of it? He's full of logic and knowledge, and clearly he's a great public speaker. He doesn't say "uuhh", "ummm", "aaaahh" constantly like Trudeau and most of his ministers.
Investing in Nuclear is the way of the future. I'm glad to see the Ford government doing what's in everyone's best interest and not caving in to the green ideologues.
There's nothing wrong with Nuclear, but renewables are great too. Add in some storage, and we could have a reliable grid, powering homes, industry and EV's, with reduced costs.
He was and he was very much hated. Yet Ford praised him as being so great but did shuffle him out of the position. I find how the system works so stupid. How do you take a guy from one area to a completely different area? These politicians just aren’t qualified for these roles. We really should have experts in the field running these things.
Lecce is excellent. He was excellent as Education Minister, and it looks like he's going to be excellent in this portfolio too. He's probably the best minister Ford has.
Huh - Quebec is an energy power with their hydro, and generally being a net exporter of energy. The largest energy procurement in Canadian history and I cannot tell if this minister knows what he is doing or blatantly letting greed push his policies but here is a kind of project where we must ensure the funding is best used for the people of ontario
from minister of education to minister of energy .... how the f does that work? all u have to be is a bureaucrat and u can do any job? this system sucks. It is important to do this, so at least the gov is doing the bare minimum of what makes sense.
By the end he was admitting to the charges. Yes, wasted money cancelling Liberal contracts when you end up doing the same thing later at twice the price. Yes, this is a u-turn. The host kept slapping him with the $230M bill and he fell apart by the end. Cheers!
SMRs will be cheaper and more efficient and not have the expense, materials, and disposal problems the "green" solutions do. Plus, the recycling of nuclear fuels is being developed. Win-win.
So the criteria is “clean”, and they want to meet EV demand, but the procurement is agnostic? Why not try making it contextual, since capital is not the only relevant criteria. We don’t live in a void or outside of history. And with the highest per capita energy use on earth, Canadians should be significantly reducing energy use.
Clean energy is the cheapest energy right now, assuming the grid can take it. The previous Liberals adapted the grid to handle a certain amount of green energy, but the Conservatives cancelled all the expected green energy for that grid a few years ago, so the grid has the spare capacity for more green energy. So the cheapest form of energy, context or no, would be to feed in new green energy to the limit that the grid can handle it.
Australia have secretly achieved massive per capita grid renewal somehow by selling its solar power to south east Asia. Why no one wants to do solar farms and sell power? Why is Alberta against raising cattle’s with solar farm just have the panel being 7-8feet tall? Hey if no Alberta why not BC? If hailstorm hits just repair the panel and maintain it like a proper human being :”oh hail storm will damage panels, we don’t want to do that.” Instead of cheap power that serves populations need also brings few percentage of saving into economical dynamic aspect, being few hundred dollars for local small business or entertainments, going out, drink, see a show we get to spend it on energy Aren’t we all proud? 😂

I hope they roll out some nice programs for homeonwers to install solar panels on their roof.
Dream on. Ford is not going to give you money.
yeah lets waste tax payer money on solar panels when we barely get sunlight for 6-8 months of the year.
@@eanerickson8915 We don't have money, remember the liberals?
Radical thought... consumers can pay for their own damn solar panels!
@@jptrainor That is a brilliant idea, then the excess can be sold back into the grid

What is point of EV if electricity is produced by burning natural gas 😁

Sure, all that AI training and EVs that require power don't create any need at all. Good grief where does it end?

Partisan much?
Too bad you cancelled those wind and solar contracts 6 years ago. And Pickering nuclear plant is past its best before date with the worst efficiency.
Whatever the gov does it will end up costing the taxpayer way too much for garbage. Get ready to be taxed on breathing air soon
We are already being taxed on air. It's Trudeau's carbon tax.
