Recently awarded “MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR 20/21” for the QLD Prestige awards - Carl Wockner is a straight-up SAVAGE! (the good kind).
Latest single “Fool’s Gold” is a delicate balance of organic-acoustic POP mixed with singer-songwriter lyricism and honesty, which is exactly what you get when you’re first exposed to Carl Wockner, especially in a live setting.
Determined to pave his own path in modern music - Wockner uses multi-instrumentalism and dynamic production to take listeners on a journey through multiple genres and sonic excitement, all while telling a story.
“Recent singles of 2020 END OF ME, PAINT THE AIR, STEREO, CMB have been a collaboration with pop producer Ben Flanders. We added specific ingredients of Pop production with REAL acoustic guitar, hits, taps - vocal trills and voicing. These were all incorporated INTO the beat to give a nice earthy presence, and we even added Kazoo (on Better) just because.. I really feel like we just straight up need more kazoo in our lives!”
Carl Wockner was named the first and ONLY Australian artist to ever win Top Honors at the International Acoustic Music Award’s 2015 (USA), along with top of the AAA category for the release of his album Crayon Days with producer Michael Flanders in Nashville TN. Wockner has skipped up the charts with his first two single releases receiving high rotation to national radio in both Australia and USA which landed the title track into the International Billboard Charts. The same album has received a 2016 IMA (Independent Music Awards) Finalist nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album. It was following this recent success that Wockner relocated his family to Nashville TN, USA as a strategic move for his evolving career.
Sept 2019, Carl was featured for an entire episode of “Backstage Marquee” a syndicate show aired across the USA featuring original artists set to be ‘the next big thing.’
Sept 2018 Wockner performed LIVE on National USA Television. The show HLN on the CNN Network for the segment “The Weekend Express,” featured Carl’s original songwriting and performance as a showcase taste of Nashville / Music City.
His rare “Live Looping” style solo performance matched only with his signature vocals and unique acoustic guitar work renders Carl in a league of his own. The live shows have been recognized throughout Australia and USA with multiple headliner performances at festivals and touring, and Wockner is now rumoured as one of the busiest musicians in Nashville, TN - aka “Music City.”
Since landing in Nashville, Wockner has released two EP’s including a Christmas release with the favoured “Santa Selfie.” Currently his latest single “Better” is noted as the best studio representation of his signature live performance style.
There’s something about Carl Wockner’s music that simply exudes peace. The peace you feel when you’re humming along to a nostalgic track, or the peace you feel when you just know everything’s going to be ok. However you connect with Carl’s music, you would agree this he is definitely onto something.
Carl’s first EP, the self-produced, recorded, mixed (all in his lounge room) Acoustic…ness, was released in 2011 to an overwhelmingly positive response. Single “Pictures” received airplay on Hot 91 FM and ZINC FM, the latter of whose DJ’s referred to him as “the man with the big hair and Golden Tonsils.” Carl was also named a finalist in three categories at the 2012 and 2013 MusicOZ awards: Acoustic Singer/Songwriter, Blues and Roots, and Pop.

Dude is just on autopilot with looping. I'm convinced Carl could loop with a ham sandwich and it'd be dope. You can't cheat the game with looping... the game always knows how much time you've put in. Carl puts the time in and if you've seen him live it's apparent. Another nice one bro! 🎸🎶 💿 💪🏾

Speechless! Carl gets a brand new looper pulls it out of the box, plugs it in and makes...THIS! That's how good he is. It is literally a crime that this hard working dude only has 18k subs.
Really what unique in it? Look at Tribal need, what he did just with one pedal. It s incredible. This guy just copy all Sheeran methods, every musician can do it with this looper after 1 day practice. Sorry
I believe he has had this for a few months. He mentions it in another video. I think he had to wait until it was released to say anything about it.

Truly just a stud. One man show. Most musicians wish they can put in the time to be that good on the looper. Very difficult. Tons of things going on. But you have a voice and a wonderful genuine stage presence when you play. That is the kicker. Thanks for motivating me to get back on the looper. I’m sure you have done tutorial/critique on the Ed Sheeran loopers. I would like to get the smaller one. What cha think.
Thanks mate, The smaller one (Looper +) is a killer option for sure! very similar to the Boss RC30 but with some more options and better audio processing. 2 button loopers are the best option for most people, as the footprint is smaller - and its more of an "auto setup" whereas any large multi track looper you really have to manually dial it in for your specific needs. Hope this helps!

Hey Carl! Just found your channel due to the new looper x content and so glad I did! Been deep diving all your videos and loving what you do. Ive been tempted to buy a HR looperboard a few times but some bad reviews citing lack of support from HR has made me hesitate. I really dig the design of this looper x though. Cant wait to hear more opinions on it from you, and whether or not its going to become your main looper going forward! Keep making the great music friend 😊

@carlwockner you mentioned you are working with the looper x team and they are working on an update w play mode as an option (also button config). Any chance you have any insight on timing of this? I’d buy one right now if I didn’t have to change my entire workflow to use it. Appreciate you sharing your talents man!

Have an RC600 and now experimenting with the X. I’m experiencing a single mic audio routing limitation for double duty as main AND looper track vocal.
I’m guessing you ran a separate main vocal mic to your mixer and in ears for its own individual mix?
I think I saw you usually have 1/2 out as your main vocal and guitar and 3/4 for your loops.

I USUALLY run a single mic for my normal rig (this vid was diff) but It operates as 2 separate mics with an AB XLR switcher. My main vocal mic channel goes into the switcher and out A direct into my console. Channel B goes direct into my looper for the loop mic.
My outputs for my looper are 1-2 for direct outputs of my inputs (mostly guitar) and channel 3-4 are my combined tracks / loops.

I’ve done both single and dual mic depending on board, everything from a Sonnit MIDI controller to a Boomerang 3 and a couple Boss iterations in between ha.

Carl… regarding the effects…. I had the headrush gig rig and the new prime…
The bass octave effect was really poor (compared to just using a boss oc5 or similar)…
I noticed on this song, it sounds like you just played the bass line with the guitar’s natural octave (or possibly the headrush’s octave effect barely blended in)
Have they improved that with this version?
I also thought the vocal harmony effects were pretty much unusable … obviously, you have no need for them, but I’m curious to see if they worked on those as well.

I didn’t use any effects in this song - waiting for the firmware update so I can assign them to the inputs🤙🏼
Was wondering with that looper does it have effects for you acoustic or electric guitar like rock sounding effects.. and could I just take that out with no other pedals and play live
It does but currently the FX are only avail in pre record or per track. Most likely wood be changed to inputs in the next firmware update hopefully
