Finished building mine and i really gotta say lego deserves a huge round of applause for this set. Theres so many really accurate details that alot of non f1 fans would not notice. The side pods shape is spot on, even down to the intake! The front wing is a huge improvement over the w12 mercedes with it being closer to the ground but the rear wing i do find to be way too bulky. All in all i think its a 10/10 set still despite the price hike!
Man, march is going to be one heck of a month for lego with all of these new releases, I am confused on which one of these I am going to pick up. There are so many good choices! Love your reviews man, keep them rolling!
Man I'm still trying to catch up one buying the ones retiring at the end of this year that I want. I'd quite like these on release but I got other priorities lol
@@iplayzthegames6968 I can relate to you, I am also trying to catch up on all of the other sets released in 2022 and 2023 before focusing on 2024 sets.
That ski detail is neat. Seems like this is a lot better than mercedes one, and it's a single pack and not double-pack with some additional price for a car that you may not want. Also more vibrant colours help a lot.
More printed pieces are always welcomed, but with any race cars in general a higher number of stickers are expected. To me, the real shame is the lack of an option for Lando & Oscar. Doing so for 76909 Hamilton & Valtteri had to have increased sales for the set to some degree with builders like me who bought 2 sets to make one of each. Maybe just not enough to warrant the additional pieces and stickers. Something to remedy in the aftermarket I suppose.
At 03:07 - I love those new wedge shaped slopes - a mini version of the headlights wedge from a couple of years ago. I need to get a few as soon as they appear on Lego Pick-a-Brick for a project that I am working on, hopefully they won't be only available in black. It's an attractive model. I think the fragility is just a Lego replication of what you sometimes see in F1 cars anyway.
Not sure if it got a mention in the Merc build video a few years back, but they cleverly got around not using slick tyres by printing the Pirelli details in blue which was the colour for the wet/groved tyres, where as now they have slicks they've used yellow which is the colour for the medium compound tyre. Also the 2 cars are completely different generations of F1 cars.
I love this build, I really think they nailed the front wing especially, but the sidepods are also so beautifully shaped, and I love your reviews too haha thank you for these! : )
Having built this myself yesterday, I can now see you switched around the two rear orange rear spoiler pieces that are on the side. The angle on the sticker should go rear/upwards. You’ll understand when you check. There also seems to be a discrepancy in boxart and instructions: the rear light looks to be in different positions.
The delicateness of the car is actually very realistic and the suite is a reflection of the real suite I think so it’s not that they cut corners I think.
Had to pick this one up. Havent built lego since i was a kid (42). The quality and design is super clever. They should go ahead and do a few more deals with other teams. I’d love to have an alpha tauri
One thing I discovered with the new Pirelli printed tires is you can fit the older smaller speed champion wheel covers, so the 6 stud wide sets, their wheel covers can fit on these wheels
Ive build the set last night and its amazing.... You say that the tail falls off... Mine is very secure. No isseus at all with stability... Only had a problem with one sticker... It didnt loose the paper very wel and some color got stuck on the paper screwing up the sticker...
Oh by the way I voted for this car! Happy to see it first on the channel! Very detailed work as always my friend! Keep it up and you will have 1 mil subs in no time!
Since you point out how the dimensions of the wheels would conflict, perhaps the reason for them not making the rear wheels of the icons set a different size is that it would be out of system, idk the dimensions of the new wheels, but if they’re say 4 studs wide, in order to fit the original size they’d have to make it 5 and a half studs wide, which might violate some compatibility rule? I don’t know if they want all their wheels to be integer stud widths.
I remember when Speed Champions sets were $15 :( Back then it was easy to justify getting a whole bunch of them. At $27 though... I might still buy them occasionally, but not nearly as many. Don't know how much of the price increase is inflation vs. greed, but if it's greed, it's going to get LEGO less profit from me as I just can't justify buying two cars at $27 each when I used to be able to get 4 for $60. Still this McLaren set is very neat and I may pick it up at some point, but even then I'll wait until it's on sale somewhere.
I've been watching most of your videos and while I enjoy watching you build these speed champions sets, most technic sets seem to offer much more for similar prices. I think speed champions should have an RRP of 20-22 euros and I would definitely consider buying some of them, as they look pretty nice
I really hope Lego continues with all the F1 teams, I would buy them all. I hated that I had to get the Merc with another car I don't care about, the F1 car by itself is perfect.
Definit6ely an improvement in detail though the fragile nature of the model can be summed up as this is a display model opposed to playable toy. Lot of stickers, but they nicely complete the look and the printing on the tires look spectacular. Definitely excited for this one and the Mustang.
Thanks for the review but the rear wing side stickers are wrong, The orange and blue OKX side panels are fitted incorrectly. The right part must be fitted to the left and the left part to the right.
Im very surprised that this set is the most wanted. I never realized how popular F1 was, I was even more surprised by the amount of people at my school with McLaren F1 hoodies. I personally am more excited for the BMW and E-tron sets, but this set definitely looks cool, and the building techniques are cool. 🏎️
This is the best looking speed champions set since the audi quattro s1 (which I was lucky enough to get my hands on). I think it looks more accurate than the icons mclaren despite being at a much smaller scale. If I was a fan of f1 I would buy this instantly
While assembling side pods and spoilers are so weak they will fall apart while fixing other parts Also while fixing halo the holder will increase the tension with pipe and fall apart overall 8/10
just got this today and all i can say is that it looks better in person, price is not bad for it and lastly the only thing i dont like is that piece behind the front tires it bothers me when it falls down and get turn easily.
Will you do a review of the upcoming polybag? And if so, could you tell us where you find them? I can’t seem to find polybags easily if not on the resale market
Can you use the McLaren wheels (without wheel cover) on the Mercedes F1 Car? I prefer the racier slick tyres over the full-wet which reminds me of the 2021 Belgian GP.
bought this set a day ago and i decided not to put on the 11 stickers of 26 10 of them being advertisements 1 being the orange triangle and i gotta say it looks a thosand times better! really like this set can't wait for the aston martin double pack!
Already on shelves at a certain supermarket chain just can't get the points in the lego app yet much to my ire. They hadpretty much most of the March car related releases in various quantities. Was half tempted to grab the McLaren FormulaE one but just went with the standard F1 as I was waiting for that one mostly.
I feel like the additional sponsorship logos is "driving" up the price. It's already expensive getting the rights to the car manufacturer themselves. Adding the logos from DEWALT, a power tool company, as well as Chrome or Cisco, having the rights to sell the product with these sponsors probably cost extra.
My rear tires are touching the rear wing. Don’t really understand what I did wrong cause now the rear tires won’t rotate without inadvertently removing the rear wing
I think sculpting and detailing cant be directly compared, since W12 and MCL60 are from completely different F1 eras. W12 beeing from high downforce 2017-2022, and MCL60 form ground effect era 2022- present. These both sets perfectly represents these two eras in their own way! Cant wait to see what Lego will do with Speed Champions Aston Martin F1 car!
When I started collecting in 2020, the pricing made it very attractive and they didn't take up much space. It's gotten to the point now, where I grumble about the prices, but still buy them anyway. And, with 50 8-wide cars, space is now becoming an issue. I'm def stopping at 60!
Considering how bulky the rear wheel is, it really should be attached in a better way. Other than that I can't really criticize it. Can't wait to have this and all the upcoming Speed Champions F1 cars.
The reason the Mercedes tires were not slick was because they were wet tires used for the rain. In F1, there are many types of tires used, and each type is differentiated by color (red-soft, yellow-medium, white-hard, green-inter, blue-wet). Wet tires are designed with ridges and grooves so that they handle better in rain. The McLaren uses medium tires.
27 up from 20 is a bit of a bit bummer, but with the added colors and details in this one, they are gonna get my $$$ I feel that the Mustang and such needs to cap at 24/25 and makes sense the F1/race cars justify to 2/3$ increase

If you think about it, the ability for pieces to come off easily is adding realism for play!

To be fair, it would be fun for them to disintegrate on the smallest contact, just like in the real races

If you are an f1 fan you notice this car is unmarked aside from the green camera pod, and the suit is really bad

The next month is gonna be fire🔥🔥
Why tho?
This year is pure gold for F1 fans :)
Tbh I’d prefer if it came with 2 figs and some spares to make it for each driver. Cause this isn’t for Oscar or Lando, it’s generic

I love the stickers. It's such a therapeutic pause in the building process. Use tweezers folks! it helps out tremendously.

We NEED a comparison between the 42156 vs 76909 Please!
One thing they did well with the mercedes set was giving it the Cinturato tire lettering since it wasn't a slick tyre
ngl kinda crazy when this set costs as much as the merc combo set with two cars, with the merc combo being proper detailed
It's been my favourite lego model so far, very impressed

For some hecking reason, it shot up to $36, or 3,057 INR, when it should've been $27 or about 2,267 INR.

2:29 What a twist!
Definitely going to get 2 of these for both Lando and Oscar. Pity that the Aston Martin will be in a 2 pack.

Them falling apart so easily is correct to the real cars. If I'm crashing them together wings and parts falling off is awesome.

The set looks great and was fun to build. Accurate enough but lacking the front wheel deflector aka the wheel brows. Strange they’re not included.

4:22 Well, if it was slick, it would be weird to be a wet tire after all.
It was decided the other way around :) It is labeled a wet tire because LEGO didn't have slicks back then.
