What is Beer in Beautiful Places?
Hi, I’m Maddie! Celebrating an outdoor adventure with a beer has been a long-time tradition for me, and I wanted to create a platform for like-minded folks to come together. In my videos, I cover all types of adventures and review beer! Topics include day hiking, kayaking, travel, thru-hiking, and life on the road. In short, if you would describe yourself as an outdoorist, outdoorsman, outdoorswoman, hiker trash, nomad, or dirtbag, come on along, this is the channel for you! Welcome and cheers!

Interviewing the other Damascus Marathon participants was a great addition.
Thank you for your inspiring videos! I love the format you've come up with, it seems natural and genuine. Hopefully this little bit of money will help in some way. Thanks, John
Thank you!!!
You’re a beautiful storyteller! I really look forward to each installment. Thanks for being such a joyful presence.
Just a little something to help you stay somewhere nice when you have a chance!!
Thanks Maddie, really enjoying the AT videos. 👍
Cookie!!! Thank you!! 🎉🎉🎉
My wife and I stayed at Bobs many times, first in 99. He’s a great guy. His late wife was also amazing. She was a therapist who used horses in the pasture near the hostel. Sadly she passed away several years ago.
That’s so cool that you stayed there too! I’m sorry to her about your wife. I hope you all enjoyed your time there as much as I did
Thanks! I love following your great adventure. I’m from NY and many years ago I hiked a section of the AT in the Catskills. Hang in there! You’re doing great!
Really digging your journey … great sense of humor and you have an unique communication style. At first, I wasn’t that interested in following you but now I think your awesome. You’re on my Top Hikers to Follow List now.
What a beautiful hike today. I just love following you. I have not missed a day of your daily vlogs. The waterfall today was amazing.
Maddie you keep smiling and are so positive …. You are truly an inspiration. Congrats on the 26 miles. What an awesome accomplishment 👏. I love to see the glow on your face when you speak about the landscape and it’s beauty.
So sorry you have “poison ivy” 😔 Definitely get it checked out, as it appears to look more like impetigo (but I could be wrong). Better safe than sorry.
Sending hugs 🤗
I’ve never heard of impetigo! That makes sense because it wasn’t insanely itchy, just annoyingly itchy!
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces hope it heals quickly for you 🫶🏻
Beer Stipend! Another Instant Classic!
Ur videos keep getting better n better! TY Maddie for the hard work u put into them, to share this really cool adventure with us😊💖
Congrats on the 26 miles! Libraries rock! I wonder if a local county health department could help you with the poison oak or recommend a more economical option? Happy Trails! 🚶♀️👍🏻🙂
Cool to be back on the damascus section again! It's been really cool watching these videos and keeping up with your hike! Keep representing the family well, Ranger!
Maddie: Congrats on your "marathon"! You should be so proud of yourself!
I enjoyed your segment on interviewing the other hikers in anticipation of their trek to Demascus, and got a kick out of their nicknames. Good job! You're doing great, Maddie. Keep it up!
Re: Poison Ivy... it is SYSTEMIC. Once you are exposed, and get the rash, it can spread to different parts of your body via your bloodstream. The rash usually develops where your blood vessels are nearest your skin...i.e., your wrists, ankles, neck, etc. Try to treat (contain) the rash as quickly as possible! Using Calamine Lotion will help dry out the rash, but if you waited too long, and the rash has spread to different parts of your body, you might have to see a doctor, and get a prescription for something stronger. I once had poison ivy so bad and didn't get it treated soon enough, that I had to get a prescription. A doctor prescribed PREDNISONE (a steroid) for me. It really worked well, and the rash was gone in less than 1 week! NOTE! Excessive sweating seems to cause the rash to spread faster, so please treat your poison ivy as soon as possible!
Take good care of yourself, Maddie, and have a good safe hike! ...and "Thank You" for taking us along! ENJOY!
You’re such a great role model and so even keeled. The world needs that so much. You are a gift and a blessing.
I can’t believe you did 26 miles in one day! The trail alongside the river was so beuatiful. Thanks for sharing.
I want Bobs life! Knew you could do the marathon! Good times, don’t scratch!! 🫣 great week!!💛 loved the interviews
That seemed like a tougher week mentally, but congratulations on pushing through the day you didn't feel like hiking, and especially on following up immediately with the Damascus Marathon! That takes a lot of determination! Still loving seeing all the fresh spring greenery on the trees - it makes the views so good.
Absolutely beautiful country!! Even in the rain and fog😀👍🏽
Congratulations on the Marathon! Fun video...I am so enjoying tracking your AT adventure!!! Thank you!
hi Maddie, there's a lot of vlogs this 2023 AT hiker season, you started later than many, I'm finding yours to be top notch, you've really got it together, and you can hike too !! hell ya !!
I so look forward to each one of your videos! You make my day and always have a smile on my face! Probably because you always have a smile on YOUR face!!! So proud of you girl!!!❤❤❤❤
Enjoyed your video…you’re developing a fun and entertaining video personality. Thanks!🙏🙂
There are few things more comforting than a warm lil kitty in your lap
Your an inspiration, an.beautiful, love following you’re great achievements a long the AT.😁👍❤️
Thank you for putting so much heart and soul into these videos.❤
BEST VIDEO EVER!! Your interviews were the best!! Looking forward to the next one. Take care and please be safe.
As a fellow hiker, go heavy on the snacks, sometimes snacks become supper.👍 I hope the rash doesn't become serious...
Good for you being able to block the bad things .
You go Maddie! I'm enjoying following along from Colorado. Be safe and have fun.
Boots!!!🐈Congratulations on walking an entire marathon in one day…I’ve never walked that far!! Love the interviews lol I’m curious about the meaning behind Cheese Foot’s trail name😂lots of fun memories for ya during this week❤
The Place is something I avoided last year because everyone said the guy running it was bossy. I had poison ivy last spring. I just ignored it and it healed in about a week. You are doing great! Keep up the positive vibes! You got this! ❤
I just joined you Darlin, and I have to say, that your spirit is just enchanting. I’ve had Systemic Poison Oak before( it began in Virginia but made its appearance in Florida), I have to say “ how in this world did you deal?”Honestly, I found it miserable…. Bless your heart. I can’t wait to binge til I catch up with you. Sending light and love to you where you are tonight!!
I love the Damascus Marathon storytelling!! The music choice was perfect 😂🏆
❤ 😂You did great on the interviews! Thank you for making this videos , I really enjoy them😊
Maddie, our blazing reporter🤳I love it ❤Happy trails ✌️
The trail in the beginning of the video before you started the marathon was an especially beautiful section of trails. I love all the waterfalls. Hopefully I can see it all in person someday. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Everyone talks about Amicalola Falls, but I think Laurel Falls is better.
You are hilarious 😂
I l9ved the interviews!!!
That smile of yours would brighten anyones day!
Another great week in the books Maddie! Hope your rash cleared up okay. 😊😊
I hope to meet you when you get to Maine. I"m a trail angel so if I have any idea when you're in my beautiful state, I can try to plan to meet up with you.
It may well be a hindrance at times but I love the trees swaying in the wind. The sound drowns out the outside world and creates an insulating sonic blanket of calm. Of course also timber! 😊
Thanks!
I’ve really enjoyed this vid this week. Was so entertaining, well edited, great story telling and describing your experience.
Poison ivy, how crazy is it to affect ppl and yourself like that. Hope you’ve got it under control!
Cheers Maddie!
Absolutely loved this video! Love your VLOG!
Thankfully for your viewers, the trajectory of your videos continues in the upward direction. I know I speak for all when I say, thank you for your creativity, and in general, how you're going about your business. By now, I hope that poison ivy thing has sorted itself out. Wishing you continued success. Best, Jack NYC
Love watching you. Thanks!
Maddie, thanks for all of your effort in showing and sharing your experience on video while you hike the AT and your past adventures. I know how much effort goes into making one short video and how much memory it eats up both as pictures and videos as well as your movie app files. I don’t know if storing files up in the cloud will help speed things up but to free up space on my phone I download my files to an SD card (128GB) and carry a less than 1 ounce SD card reader that plugs into my iphone. I have an older phone without mush storage space so when I take 2-3 days of pix and create the movie for a certain day, I upload the movie file to RUclips then down load it all to my SD card before wiping them off my phone. If I need anything from the past I can upload them from my external memory card. Then memory card (128, 256 or even 512gb cards hold months of picts and videos) and card reader are less than $30 together at the most . Once home keep a backup of everything on my laptop. At least now I can make daily videos without worrying I won’t have the space when I want to share my hikes. This has prevented a lot of frustration trying what to delete just to free up space. Just an idea to try.
Thanks again for your videos and your honesty. I hope your Poison Ivy goes away soon. Just remember take one step at a time and enjoy your experience.🎉
Don’t stop making yr videos please. You’re doing what I wish I could do.
I am new to your channel and have been enjoying your journey on the AT. I live close to the AT (Tennessee) and have hiked the Balds of Roan Mountain a few times. You are doing a great job documenting your adventure and I look forward to your next video's.
That is awesome!
That interview. Too funny.
Did you see Backbone Rock?
Laurel Fall!
Fun seeing my area here! Hopefully Beauty Spot will be clear
Hello from British Columbia Canada
🇨🇦🖐👍♥️🥾🕶🤠🧜♀️👍🌲🌳
Very cute interviews
I highly recommend Zanfel for poison Ivy. It is expensive, but will get rid of the Ivy. Follow the directions to the T.
I'm glad to see you are on your journey. Looks fun. Beautiful forest. Spring time in the woods is great. Just get some calamine lotion and keep going. I would suggest eating a lot more. Lack of water and food will wear you out.
Great video!! Thanks for sharing! I love hearing about what you will work on the next week. Great job!!! Damascus marathon 🎉amazing! Sorry you got poison ivy😞
Missing ear bud… rain…poison ivy or some kind of rash….this is where hikers are separated…. Maddie is a BAD ASS…..and crap I forgot?????? You did a 26 er …CHEERS 🍺🍺🍺
You are a joy to follow and to experience the trail through your eyes!
Thanks so much ❤
Great video. Great lessons. You're making wonderful progress. Thanks for letting me tag along. Walk on.
The A.T. will change your life forever!

This was a great video. Sorry you have poison ivy but YEAH in completing the Damascus marathon. 🎉
In Girls Scouts we call sit pads….. Sit-upon.
That’s what we called them in my area’s Girl Scouts too! Good times!
When I was a Girl Scout we made our sit upons with newspaper and table cloth material . I loved my Girl Scout experience! Dropped out just before Seniors 👌! Loved cadets the best ❤
I love your vids!
I'm enjoying your videos a lot, you're on a journey that a lot of people would like to do but for whatever reason can't. Really glad you're doing good on your hike. hope you get that poison ivy taken care of soon ...I know all to well what that can be like. anyway, take care and be safe looking forward to the next video...
Awesome video Maddie It was beautiful hike.Good luck to you Maddie.
Loved the interviews, poison ivy never bothered me, but my sister gets blisters and everything else.Great video.
When trying to sleep in noisy conditions, try using rubber earplugs w/3-rings for superior silence, but I suppose any kind will suffice, even those foam kind, but the rubber kind, however, is very cleanable to last you years of repeated use.
I found you recently and I'm really enjoying your content. I hope your poison ivy is solved soon!
I live in this area and its cool to see this.
The cinder block shelter(unusual) Vanderventer) was a great shelter due to a snow storm that came in about midnight on a late fall hike . 12 inches.
I love your attitude! I found your channel recently and caught up in the last couple of days. I would also love to contact the husband and wife team, do they vlog? I want to hike the trail next year and my husband will be following for support. I’ll be 61 and I’m a type 1 diabetic, it will be a challenge, even with support.
They don’t vlog, but I’m hoping to feature to them in a video sometime!!
I would like to hike it with you I could use the walking
Great Maddie! Congratulations on crossing the VA state line!
Nice documentary Ranger.
You are doing great! A lot of people following and here to cheer you on.
Keep it up!
I know some people that can get poison ivy simply being in the vicinity of it ! Sounds awful 😭
I love your content SO much ! You use just the right mount of music (aka not a lot ) … I enjoy the rhythms and sounds of your feet in the path for some reason .
About itchy things my dad used to say : try to only scratch it with your elbow . ( that severely limits your ability to scratch something 😂)
I love your videos and now your interviewing skills as well lol that was awesome 😂
Hahaha 🤣! Love the interviews 😁😁!
great videos im enjoying your hike
Calcimine lotion
Another great video, thank you so much!
the Appalachian trail is beautiful but it would scare me, here (in France) all we know about this trail are the people who died like Madame Gerry Largay, others who were murdered, when you meet a madman in such an isolated place you have no chance, like that sick Randall lee smith, who stabbed a man, and James Jordan, too, this place is so famous for being dangerous, but people love to launch the challenge to go through it, and of course, I admire them! (with translator)
🎉🎉woop woop im hear to cheer you on your gonna make it goodluck ❤❤
Welcome to Virginia! I live near Sky Meadow State Park which the trails goes through. Would be awesome to see you there! I'll be on the look out!
Long hike, been watching, dang it's long
Girl maybe cut back on the videos? As much as we all love seeing them, you gotta do what’s best for you!! ❤❤❤
Congrats on doing 26 miles! I really appreciate all the extra work you have to do to your videos. Hope your PI gets better. Great video Maddie!
Great video! Your doing great!
I immediately thought of your AT hike when Helene tore thru this area 😭😭😭😭
It’s so sad 🤍
Girlie, you got this!! I watch your shorts everyday.
Great video Maddie.Have a great time!
Very gorgeous video ❤
Sorry about your poisoned ivy experience. Still, your gumption carries you through where others would falter at less.
By the way, I'm really digging your tent. What is that?
REI Flash Air 1! It’s light but it has a ton on condensation most mornings
Did you replace or find your iPhone headphones? I hope you did. I guess you’re not using anything that requires charging like AirPods.
My friend let me barrow his for a few days, then I bought some blue tooth ones from dollar general (not a lot options!) that never worked, but luckily another friend (her channel is Misty Trails! Check her out!) had an extra pair and gave me hers!!! People are so nice out here!
get it done good job
