    I make my bolts too, and i never knew about bottoming out the threads.. What a great idea.. Keep them coming..

    You should find you a small metal lathe. It would come in very handy. That is a lot of filing...

    Looks great Josh! I'm lucky -there are 2 old hardware stores just up the road from me. I walk in with a beat up screw and walk out with a handful of matches for a dollar. The one store has been in business since 1850. Also fantastic suggestion on threading ad smashing the wood!!!! I tell guys this all the time.

      Lucky!! Just make sure your lock and tang screws bottom out in the threads so the wood doesn't smash.

    Never even thought about measuring the length of the threads so the wood won't get smashed. That's a good tip. Do you case harden the screws or would that stand too much chance of warping them?
