- Javier Zanetti was possibily the most complete player we've ever seen. Capable of playing at any defensive post, and even in midfield like in the Champions League final in 2010 against Bayern Munich. He was a beast who earned himself the nickname, and is worldwide known as, "Il Capitano" for having leading for years. He is also one of the very last of his kind, with Steven Gerrard, Francesco Totti or Paolo Maldini who had stayed for almost 2 decades in only one club.

I’m AC Milan fan but, I know is a rival team, but not seeing this class of player mean you don’t understand Football. Absolutely great Player in his time a derby was incredible to watch, one site Maldini and the other side Zanetti ( second my wife is Inter fan no other to say some fans understand) a part of that, I miss player like this in the Serie A but never know some day. But I think Zanetti is unique.

They had issues with AFA by the time (all Inter players btw, including Samuel).
Maradona should have taken the four into the national squad, their syncrony was on point and they knew how to play.
Instead, we took Jonás Gutiérrez for Javier, who did a great job anyways, at least in the first three matches, then Maradona sustituted for a young, inexperienced Otamendi who was a mess really and screwed up against Germany in 4th round.
For Cambiasso we took Banegas (?). Worst decision ever.
The replacement for Samuel was good, but Samuel would have been awesome.

ahah la 3 è verissima.. ma il suo carisma stava nell'umiltà e semplicità, nel suo modo di essere più che nelle sue parole.
Vero anche che i passaggi lunghi verticali erano il suo (unico) punto debole, ma in fondo non ne aveva bisogno... la palla la portava lui dall'altra parte del campo, senza bisogno di lanciarla! mai visto nessun altro giocatore cambiare fronte e fare percussioni con così tanta naturalezza: pressing o non pressing usciva sempre dalla sua trequarti con eleganza e potenza.. il numero 1 in questo. Miglior terzino destro anche dal punto di vista difensivo
Con le caratteristiche che hai detto tu, verrebbe fuori un mix tra zanetti e roberto carlos, dato che il brasiliano aveva quelle cose che mancavano a zanetti, mentre l'argentino aveva la protezione della palla, la concentrazione e la fase difensiva molto superiore al Brasiliano. Ora dimmi, nella storia hai visto mai un giocatore di fascia così forte? Perché non me ne vengono. Facchetti e Brehme avevano tiro e passaggio, ma Zanetti nel proteggere e portare palla non si batte. Cafu in fase difensiva non era Zanetti, così come non lo era nei Contrasti e nelle situazioni sporche, ma magari aveva tante cose in più. Ma trovare uno perfetto in tutto come dici tu è impossibile

Considerando poi che dopo i primi 5 anni inspiegabilmente ha smesso di fare le sue progressioni palla al piede se non in casi sporadici... In pratica gli è rimasta solo la fase difensiva, la capacità di non essere MAI saltato. Ma solo quella, oltre alla perfezione come uomo di sport (banalità dei pensieri espressi ai microfoni a parte. Ovvero esattamente quello che già avevo detto)
