Thanks Dan. I spent a summer and a fall working construction in Dawson city. It was an awesome experience. Driving the Top of The World Highway at night in summer was incredible - the sun never set so there was a predawn light, and everywhere you look there is nothing but mountains as far as you can see. Thank you for triggering all those great memories.
Hey Dan, my son and I where in Dawson in August of 2017, drove all the way from Toronto Can. Camped two nights there. Took the tour of the dredge, so cool. Took the ferry across the river and along The Top of the World Hwy into Alaska. It was amazing. Onward to Tok and then a few days in McCarthy. Thanks again Dan........Cheers......Steve
Good day Dan heading to Yukon for base ball end of July from Manitoba we r driving our team is so excited to leave how r the roads be looking at videos yours the best I seen ty
That's a great little town. I only stayed one night but the pizza was great, the hotel had a great bed and the ride over the river on the ferry was awesome. We traveled through to Chicken and then to the circle in AK. Chicken was a hoot of a stop.
Brilliant Dan - you've really shown and described Dawson City so well. I was there in 2018 on my motorbike on the way to the Dempster. Very unique place! Cheers - keep up the great work. Your videos are excellent.
I did the Dust 2 Dawson motorcycle ride several years ago.....may or may not have tipped back the shot glass so much I ended up with a toe I had to spit back into the glass! Great town!
Great review! Thank you! For anyone interested in Dawson lore, read, "Black Sand and Gold", by Ella Lung Martinsen, and also "Trail To North Star Gold" by Ella Lung Martinsen. (About my family!) Thanks. :)
Back in 1995 I and my two young boys drove the Top of the World Highway from Alaska to Dawson City. It was rainy and miserable up until we got to the Yukon River. That road was just as slick as if it had snow and ice on it from all the rain. Took the ferry across the river to Dawson the next morning and had a good look around. (as good as you can with two young boys, that is!) When we were there, the city had a code where the buildings had to be painted in 'Victorian colors', whatever that means, which in this case apparently meant they were all to be painted bright, some would call it loud, colors. It didn't look that way in your video any more.
@@TheRoadChoseMe Yes, It was very good. These kind of videos are good as it gives us overlanders an idea on what to expect when we arrive in these remote towns. I now realise I should have filmed more, but thru Russia we are both a bit weary of the situation.
We were up in July. It looks like they got most of the street construction finished. There were a few streets closed off when we were there. With covid it was even more of a ghost town. We only saw one or two other non locals.
Loved your video !! Its been a time since I watch an Overland video that made me want to jump in my Wrangler! Thanks a lot !!! Gonna visit Dawson City one day !!
Summer solstice, up on top of the dome, big party. I mean big. So that is June 21? Sometime...be there or be square! Also if you take the ferry across the river and park in the campground just to your right and then go down to the river bank and walk away from town you will come across a paddle wheel boat graveyard. There are three right there and another couple you have to bushwack your way to. The nice thing about this is they are so remote and you do have to work a bit to get there that there is little to no graffiti and vandalism.
Nice vid. Great rendering of my favourite city. It seems you did not go to the Midnight Done. If not, that is too bad. The views from there are spectacular! And, it is just a 10-15 min drive from Dawson City. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe 🌹🌸🌺🌷😷
I’m a year or so removed from when this was posted. When were you there? And what is it about that particular time that make the northern lights better for viewing?
Incredibly cool place. Not sure though about the "no franchise" thing as you drove past a Home Hardware a few moments after saying that. Regardless, refreshing.

went there 4 years ago with the family from Calgary in our 1990 vanagon Westy. can confirm it's an awesome place and can't wait to go back again.
It really is!
Brilliant. Was there in 2011. I confirm everything. Incredible place to be.
Great comments about McDonalds. Very true.

Awesome man! I will definitely put Dawson City on my list for our trip to Alaska this summer!

On my list to return to and spend a couple of days.
Looks great. The remote places are always the best. 👍... Its the people that make it i reckon.
Awesome. 👍 Q » What is the significance, if any, of the red t-shirts hanging in the trees you walked by?
They are to remind people of the missing and murdered First Nation's women.
@@metaxaanabeer Thank you.

Right. I feel the same way - more video from Africa would be great, but at the same time I did as much as I could at the time!

Great video. Try Fields Station, OR you are at least 250 miles from the nearest Micky D's and they have the best Milkshakes in twice that distance.

Hasn’t changed much since 1999. No mention of the thriving metropolis of Chicken, AK you get to before Tok?
You forgot about the red-Tshirt franchise...fun video, thanks!

What do all those t-shirts hung on trees signify? Some sort of trail markings...? Excellent video as always. Thanks.

my favourite northern town,
I saw a home hardware logo. That is a chain / franchise.
CIBC too
@@jamespopham5077 banks are not franchises. :)
@@scubicon1965 fair enough
@@scubicon1965 I think he did also say ‘chains’ and chains are not necessarily franchises.
Just like some rural places in northern Norway :)
8:53 Lowe's Mortuary.................gotcha...
Does the no franchises rule work for the gas station(s) too?
Pretty much - I can't name one that is a "franchise" north of Whitehorse. There is no Shell or Petro Canada or Mobil or anything like that.

Are you're hood vents from a JL Rubicon?
No, they're made by Daystar
So how was the toe shot Dan?
... I've never actually done it!
Why are there red jackets/shirts hanging from trees throughout this video?
I believe they're a monument to the first nations women that have gone missing
We could not get the border crossing on Top of the World to stamp our passports. Maybe because we are Canadians coming into Canada?
Ah, damn. I have no idea, I went the other way and I guess it was the Americans that gave me the stamp!
How many toe shots have you done
