      @@megansaussey7065 At every campsite there are rain water tanks! So water is not an issue. There were very few creeks and other water sources other than these tanks.

    Hi Bec! Looks great. Do you think it is worth getting the official GSWW guidebook? Hoping to do this in a few weeks

    • @BeckTreksAustralia
      @BeckTreksAustralia  3 года назад

      Hey Rohan, I have not used it myself, nor have I seen what it's contense are like so unfortunatly I cannot comment on how good it may be. What I can say though is the guide book I used during my Bibulmun through hike was the best! It gave me a bit of reading each night, and got me excited for what to expect the next day.

    Thanks Beck. I have an injury which makes sand walking for long distances problematic, so wondering how many kms the inland route knocks off the beach walks.

    • @BeckTreksAustralia
      @BeckTreksAustralia  2 года назад

      Well the hike is a circuit, it isn't really a choice of one or the other. However what you could do is just half of the hike through the forests, and just stop the hike when you hit either town (depending on which way you go).

    G"day Beck. I have seen some of your vedios on ytube. I have judt started getting my hiking and camping gear together.I have hiked in the past eith clubs but i want to do solo hiking. Are there any patch awards that an solo hikier can earn after being on an hike ?. award patches showing that a person has completed an hike.

      I beleive you can always go to the shop of the relevant trail, eg Friends of the Heysen have a Heysen trail patch you can buy, the Great South West Walk had a store in Nelson with patches, I think the only one where you got it for completion was the Bibulmun in WA.

    thanks beck. well thought out video. very informative. well done. looking at doing the hike just after Christmas. do you think this would be an OK time for the hike? or would it be too hot and too many snakes about maybe?

    • @BeckTreksAustralia
      @BeckTreksAustralia  4 года назад

      Certainly there will be snakes, but I never let that bother me personally, I choose to wear large gaiters (like the S2S Quagmires or something equivalent) and of course bring the snake bite kit and a PLB.
      The weather is what I would be concerned about the most though. There is no guaruntee a tank will have water in it. The river sections obviously will be no problem as if the tanks are empty just drink from the river. I would play it by ear as to the weather forecast for the week. If its really hot I wouldn't do it. The coast is very unprotected with no shelter from the sun. Forest - not so bad. Maybe do half the hike if you must get out of a hike over Christmas, from Portland to Nelson inland, and if the weather looks good and your doing ok with the heat, then carry onto the coast perhaps?
      Bring a bottle or 2 of extra water and hide it in the bottom of your pack and pretent it doesnt exist if you do! Just in case you drink more than expected or you find there is no water in a tank!

    • @dougdunsmore6361
      @dougdunsmore6361 4 года назад +1

      Thanks Beck. I might hide water in empty soft drink bottles along the way before hand. I will wait until the last minute so i can assess the weather more accurately. thanks again Doug

    • @BeckTreksAustralia
      @BeckTreksAustralia  4 года назад

      @@dougdunsmore6361 Just a thought if you have the ability to hide water before the hike then perhaps check the tank level instead?? That would resolve the water issue if you could do that with all the coastal tanks in particular!

    Thanks for the very informative video and I really enjoyed the scenery as well! Can I ask - is there dispersed/natural camping available along the trail? - I'm not so keen on camping near roads. Also, did you do it in August? What were the temperatures like at that time?

      @BeckTreksAustralia  4 года назад

      @@donnam2012 Hey Donna, I'm glad you found the video useful! Unfortunately you cannot camp along the trail as most of it is on private property or in a national park... but I am sure if it is an emergency and happened to get dark and you were walking you could stop at any point, safety first! :P
      The temperatures were nice during the day, max of 21 across the whole 10 days, and nothing below a couple of degrees overnight. So pretty perfect hiking temps!
