Hello, nice to see some honesty about this surgery. I had bilateral open inguinal surgery about a year and half ago, my surgeon used the plug and patch mesh method to repair my hernias. I must say going through the procedure was a lot easier than I had imagined. (general anesthesia ). I woke up after two hours under feeling fine was able to get up and walk out with no pain initially, as the anesthesia wore off I did have some pain but not enough that I had to take the prescription meds, I managed with ibuprofen only. It's been a long recovery, I was up and walking daily and have continued to heal. I will say after this year and a half I can still feel some soreness and twinges at the incision sites. My surgeon did resect my illioinguinal nerves as he was concerned about chronic pain. My hernias ware fatty tissue lipomas no intestines involved which was a good thing. The first surgeon I went to wanted to go Robotic but I did not feel comfortable about it or with that surgeon and I read the chances of recurrence were less with open. I was 58 when I had this done so healing is not as fast at this age, Its funny that said your surgeon said he used to do laparoscopic hernia repairs but stopped as my surgeon said the exact same thing, he said besides it takes too long and recurrence is higher. By the way was wondering if your surgeon removed the mesh from the previous surgery or do they just leave it? Also what type of mesh repair method did you get? (plug and patch, patch only?) Hope you are doing well.

Mine was more like a plug, patch and reinforce. A lot of the original mesh had herniated into the inguinal canal and had to be resected and basically the entire canal needed to be rebuilt. I am glad you are feeling well. I'll have an update video soon. Thanks for your comment.

Wow , you seem to be doing Amazing at this point when you filmed this. I was not in any condition to even sit up at this point. I have never experienced that much pain in my life .

Hi From Australia I had Laparoscopic Bilateral Inguinal Hernia Repair 12 weeks ago. I felt sorry for you when yours failed. My left side repair has never felt right so I am back to see Surgeon on Wednesday. Thanks for posting this I might be in for Open surgery now as well. I am 65 in petty good shape and that’s the hard part all the down time over again but you have to fight on.

It would be interesting (and possibly useful) to get a general idea of what you eat regularly, as you have referred several times to the necessity for soft stools, and also to your diet. I eat a lot of bread! I also eat fish 3 or 4 times a week. I have an egg for breakfast every day, sometimes with bacon, sometimes in an omelette with shrimp and mushrooms. I drink a lot of tea with milk, no sugar. I don't eat enough vegetables!

==> Huzzah! The good news continues. Very happy for you, Dr. Dave. ... I have my two-week follow-up tomorrow for my laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair procedure. My first question will be whether I can resume daily push-ups. . . . .

They used a glue to hold my incision together, no infections, no problems. Yes, area looked like a tomato with swelling. Thats fluid introducing nutrients in the area.

Just had open inguinal surgery six days ago to repair a recurrent inguinal hernia. Similiarly, I had my first repair done robotically in 2021 and everything seemed gooding well until I began observing a new bulge on my right side. I do a lot of calestenic and abominal style exercises to include pull ups and chin ups. Not too sure why the recurrence. In any event, the open surgery went well. I do have a very swollen healing ridge on the right side. Kind of a banana looking swollen zone from the base of my privates to my waist. Was able to avoid any pain narcotics and now most all of the pain has subsided. One big point everyone should know is that it is very painful to relieve (stool especially) yourself for the first several days.
How long did it take for your healing ridge and swelling to resolve? I have post follow up with surgeon next week. This week have been walking quite fine for good distances. Looking forward to the eighth week out to restart more physical work outs.

Glad to hear you are doing well. In my case the swelling dramatically improved around week 5-6. I am 7+ weeks out right now. I still have a noticeable ridge and was told it will take 6 to 12 months for the majority of the ridge to resolve. I wish you a successful recovery.

My biggest problem was nervous about getting up from sitting and getting out of bed. Any suggestions
