  • In "Sonic Blossom," a singer approaches visitors to offer the gift of a song selected from the Schubert lieder (songs written for one voice). Lee Mingwei listened to this music with his mother while caring for her after heart surgery in 2012. If a visitor accepts this offer of beauty and solace, the singer then serenades them.
This ongoing participatory performance is part of the exhibition "Lee Mingwei: Rituals of Care." Find the "Sonic Blossom" performance schedule and plan your visit at www.famsf.org/...

This is stupendous in so many ways! I haven't been to the opera in a year, and this Sonic Blossom is just what I needed to get me back to the Opera House! Meanwhile, I plan to be in SF's Fine Arts Museums soon, so I hope I am lucky enough to experience this moving artistry.

That is so cool! I'm not a fan of Opera. Not a fan of "performative" art. Until now. Beautiful!

That rainbow in the background made it even better. I clicked because I vaguely remember an old girlfriend drug me to a show on "Rainbows", there in the later 70's.

Schubert's lieder were simply songs, for one voice and piano, and not a part of any opera. But you may find them "operatic" due to the vocal techniques many classical singers use. They can actually be sung many different ways.
