    About the Exhibition
Explore the history of San Francisco through fashion. Featuring one of the most iconic collections of 20th- and 21st-century women’s clothing in the United States, this exhibition includes 100 collection highlights, along with local loans of high fashion and haute couture. The first major presentation of our costume collection in over 35 years, it showcases designs from French couturiers, Japanese avant-garde designers, and other pillars of the fashion industry, including Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen, Christopher John Rogers, Comme des Garçons, and Rodarte. The designs on view, many never shown before, reflect San Francisco’s long-standing tradition of self-expression through fashion.
    About Drag History
This humorous, fun video series gives audiences another way into art history. It highlights exhibitions and collection objects in a lighthearted way, and draws parallels between art history and the art of drag. San Francisco’s drag community is an essential part of our city’s culture, and at this moment when their rights are at risk, it is important to elevate their voices. Drag Art History provides a platform, highlighting the creativity and artistic expression of our drag community, while offering fresh perspectives on our exhibitions and collections.

Thank you for the segment, but why was the curator wearing that hideous sweatshirt / pajama top? I'm sorry, but was something lost in translation?

Painted for the gods.........The cheap seat WAYYYY up the back of the theatre were called 'the gods' - being high up near heaven ...where the gods reside... so if you were 'painted for the gods' -it meant lots of makeup so the folks right up the back could see ya mug clearly ...
