The best thing MLB could do is make the sport more accessible to watch your local teams. BS cable contracts, blackouts, and lack of streaming options is killing it.
Seriously, I couldn’t watch any of my hometown team on the mlb app. But I could watch a team 10 states away
Oh my goodness amen!
Reds fan, preach it! I cut the cord years ago and am with a streaming service, MLB is the only major sport I can’t watch without requiring a cable subscription.
100%
I agree especially if you are out of Market like on vacation for a time. But there should totally be more free over the air games to watch and be able to watch them as you would have on an app if you aren't home. Especially if the Yankees the Yes Network should be more accessible without needing cable
Love Passan, need to have him in more often
U really hate aaron rodgers
I loved him in the Office.
He's probably my favorite of all the guests tbh
Agreed. He delivers good info and gets his audience on this show. Love hearing him talk, except when he talks about my Astros 😅
Agree, except Pat doesn’t understand the value of having other topics other than football.
Gump’s got the most severe case of stoned eyes I’ve ever seen
Rippin' dabs and staring into a ring light lol.
Glad someone else noticed hoe fuckin high he looked
The Gumpy v Jett rivalry is amazing need more of it
Same here
I am a 50-year-old borderline purist and I LOVE this timer. LET'S GO, move it the F along. Stay in the box, throw the pitch. This will bring me back to baseball.
I like the timers but I’d hate to have this be the ending of a big game
41 and me too.
You were never a borderline purist if this is what's going to bring you back to baseball. Just so you know that.
@@matthewrock4725 Exactly. Anyone who wants this deserves the collapse that’s coming. At least there will be plenty of empty seats to choose from.
@@lifeofbrandon_ as players get used to it this will be extremely rare.
Jett is a legend. Need him on every week.
Jett is a LEGENDARY guest. Get him on every week during the season ⚾
I like how this discussion starts with needing to be quick, and this is a 23 min video
For a football show, the Jett is probably the best regular guest they have on. They should have him on more.
Glad you guys are finally talking baseball!
the good sport is over trust me they dont give a damn
This is basically a football channel
@@SlasherLPSyet it made more money than the nbgay last year😂
@@SlasherLPS it's hard to talk about baseball as a nfl channel. Ehat I enjoy is that they talk baseball at all, a lot dont
Passan fits this show so well
Jett using allegedly and saying he knows that its an important word on this show is GOLD 😂😂
The clock will not hurt the game but only two pick off moves per at bat has a huge implication.
Also limiting shifts will have a huge implication especially for lefthanded batters.
more SBs will also harken back to the 70s and 80s

Jet always has the fastball. 🤣
I love this show! Saw Passan on Rich Eisen and it was straight, sports talk. Pat just lets it all hang loose and the guests can actually show some personality and crack wise.
I grew up in St. Louis in the late 60’s & 70’s, and I clearly remember games lasting between 2 - 2.5 hours. It made 7:35 pm starts tolerable even during the work week.
They were prob flying Commercial and had an 11pm flight to catch 😂 🚫Cards/Go Cubs Go
You also had Gibby mowing through opposing lineups every other day. Lol
@@SpartanSprinkles . . . Yes we did
Hence why your clips on RUclips probably get more views than your live show on RUclips do. Nothing against Pat or his show, but most people don't have hours to sit down and listen every day, so seeing a couple minute clip is way more enjoyable.
Smaller clips are better for the comment sections so its more clear of what part of the show you're leaving comments about.
Lmao listen im a hater for baseball because it boring af but this comparison is dumb af.
shows done wonders for my sleep. keeps my mind from racing, which in turn let's me actually fall asleep lol. occasionally I'll watch these short segments when it's something that's a hot topic.
I listen to the show on the podcast app when I’m at work and then watch the clips that I wanted to see
Well put
Only media giants could get Jim Halpert on their show. Good work boys!
The great thing about watching the White Sox when Mark Buerhle was pitching is that you knew the game would only be about 2:15, if not closer to 2:00 if he was on that night. Dude would just catch and throw.
iirc Buerhle was pitching against Halladay one time and the game ended in an hour-55 minutes lol
@@kiroolioneaver8532 I think more than once he had a complete game under 2 hours
You could blind Gumpy with floss 🤣☠️
Love the MLB content! One of the greatest sports in the world. A true chess match between teams, few life changing injuries, men can play for many years, and always a game to tune into for 6-7 months if the year
Love when Patand the boys talk baseball
my dad stopped watching baseball since its so long now days , and hes loving the new pitch clock
Jeff has always been one of the best guest in the shows history ! Like baseball but definitely don’t follow it much throughout the season besides checking in on the dodgers here and there but Jeff is exactly what baseball needs 💯
I think once everyone gets used to it then it will be a net positive. A faster game with more steals and more people on base sounds good if it all works out. Old heads used to tell me how fun the game used to be so hopefully it gets back to that
Not gonna fix the game, only hurts it as the tense moves moments of a close game in the 9th inning won’t have the same merit. They will just happen so fast and you won’t have that buildup of the ending. Plus football games last 3 hours, same as the baseball games last year and still nfl is king. Shorter games don’t make it popular.
@@braytonschafer5606football runs on clocks for quarters as well as a play clock so the action is a little different than baseball!
@@GOATexp the action is what makes the nfl king, baseball just doesn’t have that much. And I believe speeding up the plays will lead to injuries and players getting out of their normal mechanics and routines that they have done for their while baseball career. I’m just a huge baseball fan and had no issues with the speed of the game, I actually enjoyed it. I just feel like this will add more bad then good.
@@braytonschafer5606 I have to disagree there, because in the NFL at the end of the game when they have no timeouts and the clock is winding down, that's EXACTLY when a sense of urgency has to be increased, and that's when all the best moments happen is under pressure, I don't that that worry is legitimate. You're right about shorter games isn't what makes things popular, but in the same vein, yes it absolutely is and here's how. The only forms of sport I follow on a week-week basis like actually watch the events is racing, Sprint Cars and Motocross, and NFL. All of which, I never sit down and watch an entire broadcast, I wait til it's over and watch the extended highlights usually here on RUclips. You can watch the entire thing in 6-12 minutes. So I say all that to say this, in essence shorter games HAS made those things more popular to me anyway, and I'm not special. Millions of others think the same as I do. The real problem that every major sport has except the NFL is very simple, there are WAYYYYYYYYY too many regular season games. Why on earth are we playing 165 baseball games and playing 16 Football games, and Football has the market effectively cornered? The markets of baseball, basketball, and hockey and all overly saturated, you can't even be a fan of ONE TEAM and see everything!
@@djjazzyjeff1232 yes the two minute drill in football is the best part of the game as the urgency makes it, but baseball is a totally different animal in the 9th inning, the suspense of it for possibly 10 minutes or more is so good and just keeps you on edge. I’m just disappointed that we won’t get that now with the new rule.
Pat as a fellow born and raised and still live in the 412 please promote as much baseball stuff as possible im a sports lover and ⚾️ needs as much luv as possible
As a reds fan, Jeff is right when he said the fans out a ton of pressure on ownership. Reds fans have really stepped out lately and said the owner is not giving back to his team
Most owners don't give enough, the ownership situation in the MLB is pathetic, The TV situation is pathetic, the lack of a salary cap and salary minimum is pathetic, baseball better wake up.
It's not fun watching a batter take 12 minutes to get set and then watching the pitcher takes another 37 minutes to throw the fucken ball after every single pitch
I agree but there seems like some fans actually enjoy that,I do not know why.
This is the most entertaining sports talk show bar none. Pat and the boys keep up the great work.
Passan and Rapoport are the two best quest on the show.
If they had made this change 20 years ago they might still be a Nationally relevant sport.
@@David-vf7if Disagre. Both have killed the game. I played ball through college and love it deeply but the length and slow pace of games caused me to only watch if it’s recorded and I can fast forward through much of it.
20 years ago Barry bonds and arod were tearing up pitching… I don’t think it was necessary. Maybe 10 years ago it was necessary
@@kingrazo10 They were also both roided out lol.
Passan with Band of Gypsys AND Evil Empire AND Wu Tang on vinyl in the background? We must have the same taste.
Rage against the machine, enter the Wu-tang, and an original NES. This guy has a sick background. AJ needs to take some tips from Passan.
I was at a Baltimore Orioles game this past summer and Cionel Perez took 2 minutes and 30 seconds on average between each pitch (I counted for an entire at bat, kinda impressive with the consistency) it was brutal to watch
Yeah thats too long. I think a 60 second clock is best. 15/20sec is too long
@@MandoEric most definitely
That's brutal
I don’t follow baseball at all but I still enjoy every time Jett is on the show! He has great chemistry with Pat and the boys
Jeff Passan nailed this segment
I'm exited to watch baseball again after 10 years
What brought you back?
@@ryant390 what’s bringing me back is shorter games, the quick pace, and no more shifts. Genuinely can be locked into a game Ive enjoyed the spring training games. Hard hit balls up the middle and in the gaps actually get through now with the banning of shifts. Everything you were taught growing up like hits up the middle and pulling the ball turned into everything wrong when they let teams extreme shift.
@@Scheboygan8767 agreed.
What’s the feeling that if the count is 3-2, the pitch clock should be either extended or turned off?
Yeah either that or disabled in the 9th!
Umps will probably give more leeway once the players get used to it
Play clock's on in football, every down, every quarter. they figured it out. Get the pitch off in time bud. rules are rules
Disable in the postseason as well. Not completely against it because I'd like more action. But the postseason doesn't need it.
The average NFL game is 3 hours and 15 minutes. MLB average used to be 3 hours and 10 minutes. Let's be honest, it's not about the length of a baseball game that's got everyone up in arms, it's the 3 true outcomes that's got everyone upset.
Its crazy how every single fan of baseball wants the baseball to be worse. Worse defensively, worse pitches, less strategy. Imagine telling a hockey team they can only have 3 guys in the defensive zone and the 2 defenders arent allowed to change on the fly because you want to increase scoring
Passan is amazing I want this guy back more beast and adds more to the show considering your not baseball folk this guy is fun to tag along
The Seven Springs reference is huge. Love spending Christmas break doing a little skiing and snowboarding up there.
Jeff vs. gumby classic😂🤣🤣
3 hours is nothin. Just moved to Australia from the states and thought about going to see cricket just to give it a chance. Turns out their games can go for 5 days!
That boys bullying Jett is top tier comedy
How many people who just hate baseball is all of a sudden gonna start watching baseball? Is 30 mins really gonna bring more eyes to the game whenever those same eyes hate baseball already smh what audience are they trying to reach
Lol for real. And will they even gain 30 minutes when all of that extra time is used by each team arguing about wtf is going on lol
@@mak10123 😂😂 you ain’t kidding, dumbasses who don’t play baseball making rules for baseball is the wildest thing I’ve ever seen
@@mak10123o far it has cut the game by half hour.Been watching baseball my entire life but for the last 7 years I have found this game to be excruciating boring.3 hours of strikeouts humeruns and guys standing around doing nothing. Exciting.
People aren’t suddenly going to tune in, but if the product is better the fans will come.
@@wsmokr I’ve been watching my whole life and played for 20 plus years, you wanna talk about the past 7 years has been boring and that’s strictly because the technology and rules they have put in place the last decade or so, it used to be to get in the HOF you had to be a .300 plus guy and it’s not the case anymore, there’s nothing about being a 5tool player that’s flashy. If your 6’7” and can hit 60 plus home runs then your the best player in the game. If you can hit for launch angle instead of average then your a great player, if you can pitch 4 innings with a high spin rate and pitch at 100 MPH then your a hell of a starting pitcher even if you can’t go more than a few innings, it’s sad when teams put the shift on and guys can’t hit opposite field so now they have to put a shift rule in place so batters can try to get on base more??? Come on these a Professional players they should be able to do it all and they just can’t now a days and the bad part about it is this type of baseball has been pushed down to the little league level and instead of teaching kids how to hit, they are teaching kids launch angle smh it’s ridiculous but it’s the way baseball has been since the MLB out so much into the technology and rules
Having a game / series take 3+ hours isn't a problem in itself, people watch DOTA 2 after all. The difference is, there isn't nearly enough complexity in the game for a runtime that long.
It is a problem. 3hr is not an ideal length for a sport in general. Football gets away with it because the games are so limiting. Even movies for example are typically 2 hours but hardly ever 3. Once you cross that 3 hour mark in the entertainment industry you are playing a dangerous game and it’s typically not sustainable
Jeff needs to be on weekly, he's the best.
Average spring training game being HARDLY shorter is hilarious.
"Scramble the jets, Jett!"
I hate that they still have the extra inning baserunner and it will be there indefinitely
Yup. Because I love watching 22 inning games.
Only weirdos dislike that rule
Most games don't go that long anyway and I think it is not respecting the game
@@danielhudson6594 Explain.
Meh I hated it at first but tbh, do u really want to be at a game for 6-8 hours?
Jett dunking on Gumpy is just feel good tv. Love to see the boys going back and forth! 🤘🏻
I’m glad I get to sit and watch a game where guys aren’t staring at each other while fondling themselves for 5 minutes before every single pitch. It’s saved the game for me.
There’s an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation (mid 90s) where they predicted the end of baseball because it was too slow.
Also had an episode in ST: Deep Space Nine, where they predicted every American city would have areas where all unhoused people lived in sanctuary districts because society simply refused to build enough housing.
Gump is feelin frisky af
You spelled "looking bloated" wrong
I went to a minor league last year, and it really was noticable how much different the pace of play was. It was great. I'm so glad baseball is adding the pitch clock to the majors
Glad to see Jim from the office got into a new career.
I love that Jeff has the Nintendo. Respect
jeff passan on the show is great. He definitely fits well with the bois. Need him more often XD
“…NOW we’re playin baseball” Pat to Jett after he says he can relate baseball to football. Fun show as always. Jeff gets it. Gets the show. Gets that baseball needs the clock. The clocks only the beginning.
I hate the idea of adding a clock to the MLB game, but the fact of the matter was that we left players and teams to their own devices and they all decided that the best way to approach an at-bat was to stall, stall, stall. So, I'm happy baseball instituted the pitch clock.
Some of the other changes, though...
Honestly baseball needs the juice
Pitch clock and a bunch of other rules to benefit offenses, so the effects of time will be limited.
A potential last pitch of a game should not be timed. The spirit of the rule is to speed the game up and 8nduce more action. It's possibly the last pitch so there's no need to speed anything up at this point and no one wants to see a game end on a clock violation ball or strike. they'd rather see some action...
The larger bases and 2 pickoffs are going to make base running much more exciting. 90% of guys caught stealing are thrown out over a matter of inches when they're too slow or coming off the bag after arriving before the ball. Both of those are going to be all but eliminated.
Play clock is on in basketball the entire game, even in the last minute. It's on in football every down, even in the last minute. Get the pitch off no excuses
That’s the time when it should be enforced most. It’s the last play of the game. Both sides need to be ready. It’s huge in basketball and it has been a perfectly fine way to prevent boring content. I think it’s great that a team blew their chance to win by not paying attention/knowing the rules.
@@lidontloExactly
Gumpy looks sooo stoned 😂😂😂😂
gumpy looking like an Elden Ring boss lmaoo
I love the pitch clock. I will miss the 3 hour long plus Red Soxs Yankees games but other wise I like this rule
love all of it except for the defensive shift. that’s like banning cover 2 bc it leads to more throws underneath.
It makes the game boring.
Shoutout jettttttt. Love when he’s on the show
I think the MLB should consider making the pitch clock a few seconds longer, but not do away with it.
Pass an is actually hilarious
I’m a somewhat new baseball fan. Only consistently started watching last year. I’m excited for this change.
Passan is elite mane gotta have him onna show more frr
Hate the ban on shift. What baseball needed was more hitters able to hit the opposite way. Instead, they changed the rules so that the dead pull hitters are not being punished for their one-dimensional style hitting.
With the pitch clock, we asked pitchers and hitters to adjust. With the shift ban, we're just adding offense by covering a lot of hitters' deficiencies.
Offense has been down for over a decade. Especially batting average. I think they’re tryin to even the playing field a bit like it was before. More offense will bring more people to watch the game
5:18 the laugh in the background 😂😂
Passan is probably one of the best baseball guys you could have on
The real danger to baseball is the fact that you have people running MLB that think they are smart and wise enough to ‘fix’ the game. The avarice is shameful and appalling. Every rule change made in the last 30 years is wrong for the game. No expanded playoffs. No DH. No electronics between the battery mates.
I disagree. Baseball is not meant to be timed. You go to the park to get away for the entire day or evening. If you don't have the attention span or dislike spending time with family and friends, watch something else. The game has been going downhill since they got rid of plate collisions. One of the most exciting plays in the game.
As a baseball fan I hate this
Im fine with the clock but I dont think that anyone who isnt already a baseball fan will be swayed to love the game cause of the clock
One more rule needed, cut 4 ball walks to 3. Forces pitchers to throw strikes and it's the major leagues, throw it over the damn plate.
Nobody is talking about the real reason why MLB is introducing the pitchclock - so they can sell an additional 8.5 minutes of commercial advertising per game.
I always skipped this dude's interviews because I'm done with baseball for my lifetime, but he won me over here. Great segment.
I’m really excited about the changes being made this year, shorter games, bigger bases, more offense without the shifts. Hopefully it’s a good season
Pitch clock only ends a game if you can’t do your job. It’s like if an nba player took the inbound down one and didn’t move down the court at all. Baseball needed to evolve, like it has dozens of times in its history. In 1969 they changed the entire game to adjust for a single pitcher.
The thumbnail had suit Passan, instead I get hoodie Passan. I feel short-changed.
Let's drop the home plate blocking rule, then it's 70's - 80's Baseball. I miss the drama of seeing if a catcher held on to the ball after a brutal hit at home plate.
i am a life long baseball fan. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!!! baseball has been so rooted in the past and has be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. this needed to be done like yesterday.
This will not win new fans as much as it will annoy traditionalist fans.
This guy is either Ronald Reagen's Grandson. Or a poster child for what a young Ronald Reagen look like
The last long movie I watched was Titanic . If I recall the original Titanic run time was 240 minutes or about 4 hours long. It was so action packed and the actors were so good, that 4 hours flew by. ahhh the good old days.😎😎
need jeff on as often as ian
Jeff Passan is a gift.
I grew up watching cricket. It’s the closest sport to baseball, and it was also getting some criticism for the time investment. Over a decade ago they came out with a new format which essentially cut the games in half by basically cutting the number of “innings”. That new format has become even more popular and fun. Hopefully this helps baseball.
I was thinking the same thing when they were talking about Little League games, 9 innings vs 6 innings.
My man up there of the Kevin Youkilis batting stance I love it!!!
So, now with MORE batted balls there will be more calls to question, more pitchers being used, increasing the game time.
JETT just murdered Ty and all yankees fans everywhere love to see it
This is old school idea gets rid of the modern BS of wasting time.
Add the Oakland A’s as owners who never spend any money! I beg for the A’s to be sold!
