I hate the idea of adding a clock to the MLB game, but the fact of the matter was that we left players and teams to their own devices and they all decided that the best way to approach an at-bat was to stall, stall, stall. So, I'm happy baseball instituted the pitch clock. Some of the other changes, though...
It's not fun watching a batter take 12 minutes to get set and then watching the pitcher takes another 37 minutes to throw the fucken ball after every single pitch
“…NOW we’re playin baseball” Pat to Jett after he says he can relate baseball to football. Fun show as always. Jeff gets it. Gets the show. Gets that baseball needs the clock. The clocks only the beginning.
A potential last pitch of a game should not be timed. The spirit of the rule is to speed the game up and 8nduce more action. It's possibly the last pitch so there's no need to speed anything up at this point and no one wants to see a game end on a clock violation ball or strike. they'd rather see some action... The larger bases and 2 pickoffs are going to make base running much more exciting. 90% of guys caught stealing are thrown out over a matter of inches when they're too slow or coming off the bag after arriving before the ball. Both of those are going to be all but eliminated.
Play clock is on in basketball the entire game, even in the last minute. It's on in football every down, even in the last minute. Get the pitch off no excuses
That’s the time when it should be enforced most. It’s the last play of the game. Both sides need to be ready. It’s huge in basketball and it has been a perfectly fine way to prevent boring content. I think it’s great that a team blew their chance to win by not paying attention/knowing the rules.
IMHO, any time saved will be eventually taken up with additional commercial breaks. Advertising is another reason games last longer, start to finish. Just a gut feeling, but I would bet, the number of commercials in a minor league or spring training game is less than in the majors. I support the idea of trying to speed up games but I think they need to look all aspects.
The last long movie I watched was Titanic . If I recall the original Titanic run time was 240 minutes or about 4 hours long. It was so action packed and the actors were so good, that 4 hours flew by. ahhh the good old days.😎😎
Baseball should speed of the game by having the Away team batting for 3 innings in a row than the home team bats for 3 innings to cut down on time inbetween innings. Do that for 4-6 innings too. Play inning 7-8-9 normal
The average NFL game is 3 hours and 15 minutes. MLB average used to be 3 hours and 10 minutes. Let's be honest, it's not about the length of a baseball game that's got everyone up in arms, it's the 3 true outcomes that's got everyone upset.
I disagree. Baseball is not meant to be timed. You go to the park to get away for the entire day or evening. If you don't have the attention span or dislike spending time with family and friends, watch something else. The game has been going downhill since they got rid of plate collisions. One of the most exciting plays in the game.
So, the pitch clock reduces the length of games. Bigger bases and getting rid of the shift leads to more offense, which increases the length of games. ???
@@David-vf7if Disagre. Both have killed the game. I played ball through college and love it deeply but the length and slow pace of games caused me to only watch if it’s recorded and I can fast forward through much of it.
Its crazy how every single fan of baseball wants the baseball to be worse. Worse defensively, worse pitches, less strategy. Imagine telling a hockey team they can only have 3 guys in the defensive zone and the 2 defenders arent allowed to change on the fly because you want to increase scoring
shouldn't ban the shift. but keep the clock. You want to have your defenders moving around go for it, but the pitcher better be pitching while you do it.
Having a game / series take 3+ hours isn't a problem in itself, people watch DOTA 2 after all. The difference is, there isn't nearly enough complexity in the game for a runtime that long.
It is a problem. 3hr is not an ideal length for a sport in general. Football gets away with it because the games are so limiting. Even movies for example are typically 2 hours but hardly ever 3. Once you cross that 3 hour mark in the entertainment industry you are playing a dangerous game and it’s typically not sustainable

i am a life long baseball fan. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!!! baseball has been so rooted in the past and has be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. this needed to be done like yesterday.
I've been waiting for a pitch clock for years. I know it goes against the idea of baseball being a game that has no timings, and they have tried to address timing wasting with rule changes, but the game still tend to drag.
dudes, i pitched disrupting the timing me was standing ready to pitch immediatley to f with them getting in the box not throwing different speeds SOME SOME HITTERS HATED THAT.
Pitch clock only ends a game if you can’t do your job. It’s like if an nba player took the inbound down one and didn’t move down the court at all. Baseball needed to evolve, like it has dozens of times in its history. In 1969 they changed the entire game to adjust for a single pitcher.
Hate the ban on shift. What baseball needed was more hitters able to hit the opposite way. Instead, they changed the rules so that the dead pull hitters are not being punished for their one-dimensional style hitting. With the pitch clock, we asked pitchers and hitters to adjust. With the shift ban, we're just adding offense by covering a lot of hitters' deficiencies.
Offense has been down for over a decade. Especially batting average. I think they’re tryin to even the playing field a bit like it was before. More offense will bring more people to watch the game
I wonder, in the 70s/80s pitchers were quicker and seemed to last longer into games than the 5 inning 'starts' (where quality start hits maybe 6 innings) of today. I'm hoping that pitchers actually start to actually COMPLETE games again.
I’m glad I get to sit and watch a game where guys aren’t staring at each other while fondling themselves for 5 minutes before every single pitch. It’s saved the game for me.
I grew up watching cricket. It’s the closest sport to baseball, and it was also getting some criticism for the time investment. Over a decade ago they came out with a new format which essentially cut the games in half by basically cutting the number of “innings”. That new format has become even more popular and fun. Hopefully this helps baseball.

Jeffs the best even after 9 seasons of The Office. The clock is gonna make things interesting at the plate also how many stoppages
Passan is elite mane gotta have him onna show more frr
This will not win new fans as much as it will annoy traditionalist fans.
I've been waiting for a pitch clock for years. I know it goes against the idea of baseball being a game that has no timings, and they have tried to address timing wasting with rule changes, but the game still tend to drag.
Glad to see Jim from the office got into a new career.
dudes, i pitched disrupting the timing me was standing ready to pitch immediatley to f with them getting in the box not throwing different speeds SOME SOME HITTERS HATED THAT.
Pitch clock only ends a game if you can’t do your job. It’s like if an nba player took the inbound down one and didn’t move down the court at all. Baseball needed to evolve, like it has dozens of times in its history. In 1969 they changed the entire game to adjust for a single pitcher.
I think my only gripe of the changes is the shift cause taking out a form of defense is still odd to me BUT I'm a big fan of the timer.
"Scramble the jets, Jett!"
Great addition, keep the game moving reasonably.
I go to a lot of high A minor league games, and they had pitch timers last season. It does speed things up in a good way.
I think the MLB should consider making the pitch clock a few seconds longer, but not do away with it.
How did they get Jim Halpert to come on and talk baseball? This show is awesome
Watched some baseball the other day for the first time in a long time. MUCH better, the game flows like the old days.
Hilarious and informative! Love it !
I was thinking the same thing when they were talking about Little League games, 9 innings vs 6 innings.
