Surprised to see him in 2007’s Into the Wild. The man was nearly 100 when he passed this year!

Saw him doing his rendition of Mr. Twain back in the 1990s. Did a fantastic job in spite of his white suit being accidently sent to the wrong city from the previous venue. The drama club of the local college offered him what they could for him to wear from their various costumes. It wasn't a white suit, closer to beige and of a modern cut, but being the professional he was, he carried on with what he had to work with, didn't let the audience down. Did a dynamite show.

Somehow during my life I missed out on seeing Hal Holbrook. Never realized how handsome he was and his voice is so wonderful. Such a serious, cultured man. Dixie, his wife, once remarked that he was the only one of her husbands who actually like her. Wish I had seen him more. And Dick Cavett is an excellent host. Can't say enough about how good he is at drawing guests out. Cavett is very handsome, too, and his voice is out of this world.

If your into wilderness survival/slashers flicks, I’d like to recommend a film the man did in 1977 called Rituals. A group of successful middle 50 somethings go away for their annual trip when things go awry. Truly an under-seen film with a strong performance by Hal and a very intriguing killer.

I appreciate the subtle way in which he clearly conveyed the value of public investments in art.

In Magnum Force , Harry Callahan had to teach Hal that " A man's got to know his limitations "

Is this channel ever going to show Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason and/or Art Carney? I don’t have the Decades channel at all.

Can you please upload interview clips of the late, great Robert Shaw. He was such an interesting and engaging guest appearing on the show at least 5 times.
    e.g. Woody Allen/Robert Shaw/Beverly Sills/Jacqueline Wexler (29 Dec. 1969)

do have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like all the other Dick Cavett shows on RUclips.

What happened to intelligent talk shows like this and Johnny Carson?

@J. Bernays I’m only 14. I think that we have embraced a culture of ignorance as entertainment, this is why music, TV, and even books are becoming more and more, well...silly. I wish we could have a more intelligent culture that accepted bright people as entertainment and ignorant people as either comedians or fools.

I couldn't agree with you more! I put a very similar question to my friend only last week.
I'm in my 30's and I can't bring myself to watch today's 'talk shows'. I'll watch clips of this and Carson.

Every time I watched Hal in movies, for me he stole the screen, he had such presence. Then he got political and started criticising presidents and political views, now I cant watch him the same way. Simple message, if you are an actor be an actor, if you are a Politian be a politician. You ruin all your work if you try to be both.

Old television. Slow as a movie. And this is a mainstream show. Bruh
