- The BIG REVEAL! I've finished sewing my first vintage inspired capsule wardrobe suit and changed it's name to 'The Audrey' as opposed to 'Suit A', which, let's face it, is a bit boring :-)
I've decided to name all the outfits after 40s & 50s film stars because, well, why not! Who doesn't need more glamour in their life?
I'm very pleased with it and I think it will work very well in many different outfit combinations and for a variety of European activities, and also at home as part of my normal summer wardrobe.
For the jacket I did a mash up of sewing patterns: Butterick 6571, Style 5153, Style 3568
For the top I hacked the dress sewing pattern: Vogue V8875
For the skirt I hacked the dress sewing pattern: Retro Butterick 6308
The fabric was a lightweight woven blue linen from Spotlight and the 3 items in the outfit were cut from 4m of fabric. I am usually a size 10 or 12/14 in sewing pattern sizing. The buttons were vintage buttons out of my stash ie. my button box, which I'm sure every sewist everywhere has!
So now onto the 'Sophia Loren' dress for my daughter's wedding ...
DEFINITION OF A POCKET FARM
[noun] A pocket farm is a small area of land that has been repurposed to grow food and/or keep small animals (worms count) as its primary purpose. It is an oasis of sustainable agriculture and wildlife habitat in or around a densely populated area. May include: balconies, patios, driveways ... or anything you can think of really!

I love this suit. It looks stylish and a little polished, but bot fussy or prim. I am not sure how I came across your channel, but what a timely reminder for me to stop chasing an ideal pattern to create what I want, but to focus on the key style lines for inspiration and take a look through the pattern stash. I think having a block that fits your own body is a great foundation for pattern mashing. Having said that, your top has such a perfectly lovely neckline I am tempted to copy.your pattern choice.
I'm really glad it was useful! I too have spent hours on the internet trying to find what I want and then found this was way easier, cheaper, and more fun 😁
Wow. Thank you so much for showing us how you did that. I can make patterns from scratch, but it wouldn't have occurred to me to blend patterns together. I love your suit.
Thank you 😊
Great outfit! I loved how you showed adapting several patterns together. Inspiring!
Thank you 😊
That looks fabulous! The top & skirt together really imitate a dress well, then you’ll have the alternate bottoms and tops to expand the wardrobe. The little jacket is a perfect touch. The white buttons on the top showing above the jacket buttons really works well together too. You must be so pleased with how that came out 😃
Yes I am 😊 Thank you!
Love this suit! I have some patterns that could be altered to make the ensemble except the blouse. I think I want to copy your wardrobe! The double kick pleat on the skirt is so lovely!
Thank you, that's so kind 😊
Lovely and inspires me to keep sewing!!
Wonderful!
You and the jacket look fabulous! Thank you for showing how you blended the different patterns. I've never seen anyone do that before. I would attend classes if you offered them. I'm on the shore. ❤
That's so nice of you to say 😊 I've never thought of doing anything like that! 🤔
That jacket came out so lovely!
Thank you 😊
You look gorgeous! You are so inspiring and I am sure we will all gain confidence in mixing patterns to achieve our own style. Can’t wait to see the dress! From Quebec, Canada.
Thank you so much! Wow! It's so lovely having people around the world watching 😊 It must be spring with you?
Thank you for crossing my path Jenny... I've the same passion and vision for gardening and dressmaking. I've started at your very first vlog and catching up slowly... I'm a Dorset lass (62yrs young), now living in Spain, have a cottage in Normandy, France (with an amazing veggie garden) and my two lads live in Australia (Perth and Sydney)... Thank you for imparting all your knowledge to this wider audience. You're very inspirational and passionate about your beliefs. I'm definitely following your vlogging journey ❤
Subscribed about 5 seconds in- Love your energy! Then proceeded to love the whole video and loved hearing about your process 😁
Thank you! Welcome 😊
Well you just popped up on my vlogger feed. I was very intrigued to see how you would combine parts of the three patterns to achieve the look you were after. I did something similar when making my neice's wedding gown. I will be taking some time to explore your previous vlogs.
Wonderful! Thank you 😊
What a smart timeless look. Beautiful details.
Thank you so much 😊
Fabulous suit and explanation of process.
Thank you 😊
Just. beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you so much 😊
Thanks for taking us through your process for combining the three patterns. I learned a lot. Maybe next time use a heavier ,darker, marker, so the lines you were drawing show up better on camera.
Good idea, thanks 😊
Lovely 2 piece, fits you very well
Thank you 😊 The matching skirt will be coming out this Friday!
Love this outfit....looks great on you !
Thank you 😊
The suit is wonderful and the colour is perfect for you. I know your channel is about sewing, but I would LOVE to know how you manage do style your hair. I can never get mine to look as smart as yours.
Thank you 😊 I think the trick is a good barber - way cheaper than a hairdresser and they are so good at this type of cut! Maybe I'll do a short video about that! but it will be very short as there's not much to tell 🤣
A beautiful suit beautifully made. A proper little blue dress to rake you anywhere. A narrow - 1"? - white belt would really define the waist and show off your figure. Plain grosgrain with an inline bow suits the era.
Oooh! that's a nice idea! Thanks 😊
I just LOVE your style, you look amazing. Your makes are classy and beautiful. They fit so well, great job!
Thank you! Cheers! So nice of you to say 😊
You did a fabulous job.
Thank you 😊
The Audrey suit is SO chic! And just perfect with the low slung shoes. As for the Sophia dress, anybody who has Crystal Palace and Marble Arch in their garden, can definitely have a Sophia Loren dress is her wardrobe.
PS - I'm intrigued about what Suit B will be called. Maybe a Lauren (Bacall) or a Deborah (Kerr)... Oh, for Saturday afternoons in front of black and white films!
Ha ha! Yes, I think you're right 😁 Thanks so much!
The Audrey suit looks fantastic and great length on jacket
Thank you 😊 I think so too! It turned out just how I wanted, which isn't always the case 🤣
You did a great job and it suits you.
It is inspiring to see you adjusting the patterns to your needs
Thank you so much! 😊
I love your haircut.
I do too. I am trying to get my hair to look like that to no avail. Very stylish.
Thanks 😊 The trick is to find a good barber! They are cheaper than hairdressers and are very good at this type of cut!
Very Audrey! Collar is adorable 😍 💕 Good day from Western Australia. I think a classic string of pearls, pearl earrings & silk scarf would look amazing 👏
Thanks 😊 And good idea about the pearls, I'll give that a go 😁
Oh wow that dress is perfect for your capsule colours! 💖
I think so too! 😊
I love it. It’s a really nice 3 piece suit and the fit is perfect on you. Looking forward to seeing your other makes.
Thank you 😊 I'm cracking on with the dress as we speak!
Oh I just absolutely love this suit. Stunning.❤
Thank you so much!
Fabulous 😊
Thanks 😊
Stunning! Simple and chic at the same time. Love it!!
That's so nice of you to say 😊
I have to admit you lost me 😂 but what you are doing is what i hope to do for my capsule wardrobe... But need to learn more fitting first. You look stunning 👌
Thank you 😊 I hope it was useful for your project!
Good Morning. I haven’t watched all the vlog yet but excited to find it. I have been doing the picking of different elements from patterns and have just finished a toile of 2 different patterns. Changing a top neckline from the classic Audrey Hepburn to a stand up collar with slit front using some RUclips video reels. Thanks for this and look forward to your reveal when I can finish watching ❤ Debbie x
Wonderful! It's such fun making up your own stuff just the way you want it 😁
Such fun and great tutorial on mix and matching patterns 🎉
Thanks so much! 😊
Very nice and well done! I definitely agree with the Audrey name!
Thanks 😁
Amazing
Thanks 😊
The suit looks so good on you; great job!
Thank you so much!!
Looking great. Did you line the jacket?
Thanks, no I didn't line it as I want it to be a lightweight cover up ... sort of like an shirt ... but a jacket, if you know what I mean 😁
@@cornwallpocketfarm I keep hearing shacket as a thing. I have two in corduroy I would consider shackets.
Thank you! The Audrey is lovely!
Thank you 😊 I think so too!
Lovely! The fit is perfect.
Thank you! 😊
Congratulations, It looks great! ❤ God bless 😊
Thank you 😊
Sew successful!!
Thanks 😊
