We are both not able to hike very far, so I very much appreciate this short jaunt to the falls. Especially the wheel chair access, for those of us that Love being able to get to see this much of God's beauty it is wonderful. I will put it on our list and the solitude & sounds of the water soothes my soul. Thank you very much. PS: Loved the bird piece🤗

I worked for the city water department. We had a dam for water storage. There were 6 streams that emptied into the reservoir and we had to set weirs and recorders to monitor the amount of water coming in to regulate what went out for the state water rights. We had stream gauges that had circular paper charts that had to be changed every week that were in boxes that had floats inside a round cylinder with a light wire with little round balls that engaged a wheel that turned the chart so an ink needle made a line on the chart. The new ones had solar panels that recorded electronically. We had one of those trolleys to get to the dam stem to regulate the water flow, 8' above full level. The reservoir had a 60' working level and in the summer at low level you were 68' above the water level and a 1/4 mile out. All done hand over hand to pull yourself along....James

The cable cart was historically meant for transportation of goods or people across a body of water. Cheap to erect all you need is one rope and one cable. Usually you would see this in very remote area's and was a favorite among the mineral miners.

Jimmy loved your bear t-shirt. Your cute little bird was an American Dipper. Great video of him! You should visit Mt. St. Helens someday. If you can get the right sunny day
it is fantastic. There is the back way into the park, take Hwy 12 to the town of Randle. There is a Ranger Station in Randle, turn there. It will take you very close to Spirit Lake.
There is also a campground, (just a big parking lot) you can spend the night in. Rangers will tell you about it. It was a great drive, not as many people. Safe travels.

It is so nice for people in wheelchairs and with other mobility issues to have access to that waterfall! I know my oldest daughter would love to see more places like this available, she is paralyzed from waist down and has limited use of her hands too. I told her once I sell my property and get a rig set up to travel I want to take her on a trip with me, a vacation for her and to spend time together. Descend is a gathering of like-minded, van-dwelling folk who come together every year to celebrate the outdoors with some good old-fashioned camping. Music, BBQ, World Famous Raffle, and activities for the family abound. Natural formations in the area include the Hole-In-The-Ground, the mile wide volcanic crater, and the Crack-in-the-Ground--an ancient volcanic fissure 2 miles long and up to 70 feet deep. Descend is the largest van-gathering you've never heard of. (this was taken from their website)

Hi Jimmy. I’m in the Shasta/Trinity area in Northern California off the 299. I’m next to the Trinity river and was told that the salmon will probably start their run next Tuesday, the 25th. I don’t know how they know that but 6 new fishermen have arrived in the last hour. I’m a native Californian and didn’t know we had rivers with salmon in them. Maybe I’ll give it a whirl.

Nice video. I was wondering what time of year the salmon go up the rivers and if you were there at the right time? I also wonder if you were above the recently removed dams that used to block the salmon from going all the way up the Elwha watershed and were removed to restore the natural river? This river was the scene of a huge scientific rehabilitation project after the dam removal, including trying to get salmon to go back to the upper reaches. The plan was to also bring back many other animals that feed on salmon as well as the nitrogen the salmon provide as they decompose or get pooped out that fertilizes the forests.

Hi Jimmy. If you are coming to the island you really need a good month here otherwise you are just doing the touristy stuff that everyone else does over and over again. Lots of beautiful remote places here, along with quirky fairs and festivals and individually interesting islands where a lot of creative people live and pursue their art. Carolyn came over but really didn't get to very much that is of interest here.

Really need to spend some time on Hornby Island. The original hippie heaven out here back in the day and still has some pretty quirky interesting hand made homes, cardboard bakery, Tribune Bay, lots of walking trails and no bears because it is an island far enough away from the mainland. Everyone walks or hitchhikes around. Great music in the summer, jazz at the Thatch Pub, artisans of all kinds. DeerHeart Sanctuary for meditation and they would likely let you park for a very small fee and some internet access. Could also use the small library for access. You would love it.

Salmon spawn in more shallow areas. Females. (does) prepare gravel beds (redds) to lay their eggs and the males (bucks) spreads their sperm over the eggs. The returning Salmon have spent 2-4 years in salt water and return to their natal streams to breed.

Salmon spawning is when they swim upstream to lay eggs and die. The bears will be out to eat the carcasses and the eagles too. Take care Jimmy.

Check out the RUclips videos of the dams they removed on the Elwah River and the resulting rejuvenation of the salmon population--fascinating.
