I stopped renting because of the obstacles that I faced as a black man, now I owe properties and as a landlord, I am only interested in my tenant's reference and money
Well I am a black man who’s never had this problem so what obstacles do you speak of? Is it all in your head, nobody cares about your damn skin color but you man...
@@jonesaundre3 Because it didn't happen to you don't mean you dismiss his experiences. You ain't black boy stop lying cause if u black u damn sure have experienced at some point. I call bullshit u white troll pretending to be black. Blacks don't claim you, dismissing peoples feeling . Karmas a Biotch and if u haven't had the experience, now u most certainly will. Good Luck!
That’s exactly what I do, I actually told one of my clients I don’t care what color they are as long as they have money for the deposit first months rent, have references and can pay for the unit there’s a good chance they will be moving in
I agree! I also want to say that just because someone has a bad credit score doesn't always means they don't pay their intentionally, they could be doing their damnest to clear it up but it takes time.
Sad but true...when I was a teenager, me and my Grandfather were doing some yard work on a townhouse in the Tidewater area of Virginia during the 80's...a white young couple possibly in their mid to late 20's ...saw the For Sale sign on the door and started looking around at the place...my Grandfather spoke to them and said " Hello, how can I help you?" ...The Man refused to shake his hand and looked at my Grandfather like he was beneath him because he was dressed in denim overalls and a t shirt with some work boots on...they left and drove off in their Mercedes Benz...a week later, my Grandfather said he saw the same Man at a grocery store talking to a member of the city council and a former judge...the former Judge spoke to my Grandfather and introduced the Man to my Grandfather ..." I would like you to meet retired Master Gunnery Sgt Clyde A. Toler ...he is a member of the City Council and he also owns some property downtown...including a couple of nice townhouses"...my Grandfather said the Man's face turned beet red!
Good for that POS. I would've been petty and said "yeah I think we've met but not officially. Iirc he scoffed at me while I was attempting to help him out and show him around. I don't know if he still wants to see the house....I think that Benz he has would look good in the front yard 😏."
I certainly hope that man had the cojones to apologize to your Grandfather for his own bad behavior. >.< racism hurts everyone involved and it's impossible to gauge how many lives it's ruined and how much $$$$$$$$$ it's cost the short-sighted 1% ultra-rich "people/corporations" who focus only on their profit margins, and never on the Common Good.
I’ve been through that as a tenant and as an employee. This is why I run my own business, as well as because a successful landlord. When you have your own money, you are more liberated, meaning that there is less bull$h!t that you have to accept from people. The funny things happened to me when I became my own boss and also started owning property. The same faces that discriminated against me in the past would eventually wind up needing me for a job, or needing a place to rent. I had to remain humble and turn the other cheek. You have to be careful about how you treat people, as you might be at that person’s mercy in the future.
You are absolutely right remember the golden rule treat people the way you wish to be treate...that's why we have to be mindful about how we treat people if you mistreat people you might need that person help.
I had this happen to me at a local Toyota dealership because of the vehicle, my son's beat up work car, that I rode in to the dealership. The man told me straight out "You can not afford any car on this lot!" At the time I was working 40+ hours per week as a nurse at the local hospital with a 800+ credit score that he didn't even ask me about because he approched me at the door! I called & filed a complaint & a week later I went to the same dealership with my new Chevy Tahoe, looked at the guy & I told him, "You made a big mistake!"
I had to do a car salesman the same way, and the sad thing about it is they kept calling me after I called and complained on their salesman. They told me I can come an get a car I told them no, I don't need your car now I went and got me a new car from a different car lot.
This happened to me, just wanting to rent a room some years ago. My friend who is white came with me. She stayed in the car. I spoke to the lady over the phone, she was nice....OVER THE PHONE. When I arrived I went and knocked on the door, the lady looked at me and said, Oh, it's rented, I told her but I just got off the phone with you. She said, it happened so quick. I knew exactly what was going on. So I asked my friend to go knock while I stayed behind. She was showed the room and asked if she wanted to rent it, she said no, but my friend wanted to, she called me over and I said, Oh, I thought you said it was rented???? She just looked at both of us and told us to get off her property. I have never been a bum! I'm have always been a hard working woman, but this lady only seen my skin color.
@@DeeDee-hx1km question. If you have a room in your house (that you live in) for rent and you want to rent it to a female and a Male looks at it, can you refuse to rent it to him?
Disgusting! Over 20 years ago, my Black friend, a man, and I, were told at the door of a B&B that I had reserved for us, in Northern California.. that she did not have the reservation. She saw a Black man and a White woman. I very sternly told her to put us up.. and she said, ok only for one night. This is 2021.. and not much has changed.
This happens a LOT!! My ex-boyfriend was white & we went to check out apartments together but separate. He was wearing sweats, I was wearing business clothes. He was greeted as within seconds of coming thru the front door with a handshake. While I was asked “Is there anything I can help you with?” He was offered an extra apt that wasn’t even shown to me. And when asked I was told it wouldn’t be ready because it was being “remodeled”. I had papers showing I had an above 700 credit score and was told there are other things that factor in that I could be denied. While he stated he only had a credit score of 550 (not true-he actually had a 620 unbeknownst to them). It was so discriminatory. We finally settled on a place that treated us the same. To say that it happens all the time would be an understatement. It just sucks that it happens at all.
Be careful. The internet tough guys will be coming saying this didn't happen or discrimination doesn't exist at all except in your head. Ppl hate to admit reality because they somehow think you are saying they are responsible for actions of someone that looks like them. They think you are calling them racist for the actions of Amy and Jim but all you're saying is like discrimination is alive and well and you experienced it at the hands of Amy and Jim.
I had a very near experience as you, but w/jobs. I phoned school districts around Atlanta, just before grad school was over (years ago) and was told there were no positions, etc. after I told them my race. (Which was their first question.) My friend, of another color, phoned (literally on the same phone mere seconds later) and had the exact same qualifications (same grad school, major, grades, etc.) as me and was told there were more than enough positions and when could they schedule an interview? Boy, that stuck w/me for a very long time. Surprise! My friend got a job, I didn't.
I'm sorry about your experience. I do not know your situation, but your credit score is above 700. Why pay someone else's mortgage? Buy something! I tell my tenants with ears to hear to buy anything that they can buy in their capacity. You will be a "landLORD" yourself. The very person that rejected you might be someday the person wanting to rent something from you. When that happens, go easy. You have already won. Start asap. Refer to my post that I posted just now.
I have no doubt it happens, and probably more than we know. I guess I've never understood the mindset, and I've heard people say stuff like, "the blacks are moving in across the street," or "we've got Mexicans next door," etc. So what? If they're good neighbors, I don't care about their ethnicity, color, religion or any of that. When people get obsessed or prejudiced about that kind of thing, I wonder what other creepy ideas they have.
It happens to me too. It has my whole life. And I know complaining to certain people will just make them say I’m pulling the race card. Most people use buzz words instead of straight out language so they can deny. Cowardly
@@kleshayer3751 Well let me tell you! I am a black person with a European accent , and I usually called first , and made an appointment to see the place , but when I arrived at the seen, they would say, the apartment has been rented ! Well, if it was rented , then why set me up for an appointment ? The point was , I sounded white over the phone, but I was black in person ! That has happen with job applications, business opportunities , bank loans , and etc.
Peter Point- du jour this is illegal you could report them and expose hem on social media. And did you get mad when he said it’s rented? You said job applications and business opportunities could you talk more about that.
I am a white man and I got great satisfaction in how this racist was shut down. It should not take all this effort to get people fair and equal treatment. It is past time that we treat people by the content or their heart, not the color of their skin. I think Dr. Martin Luther King shared that many years ago. It needs to catch on.
It goes to show you that you can be the nicest person, do all the right things in life, treat everyone with respect and dignity, and still some people see you as an enemy. Things like this can cause one to lose hope in humanity.
For every one person like that, there are at least 2 that are not. The world is changing - waking up. We tried so hard in the 1960's, and were met with being shot to death, beaten to death - or nearly to death. I was in a peaceful rally in Detroit, Michigan, in the 1960s, after the deaths of Dr. King, President Kennedy, and Robert Kennedy. Believe it or not, the racial hatred then was orders of magnitude higher than today, as bad as it is. I was arrested (along with my sister, and two brothers), and beaten in front of them, as they all begged for my life, while a cop put a .357 to my temple, and just said "move." I am "white," but had long hair, and many, many black brothers and sisters - who I was demonstrating with, along with my 2 adopted black brothers. They had to watch me, bleeding, flipped onto my back with that gun to my head, while a big, fat, bald-headed white cop put his cigar out on the tender flesh beneath my chin, on my neck. I have the scar, today (at 70), and wear it with pride. I lost a lot of "white" and "black" friends in those years and came very close to death many times - that's why the music of the time is so moving and deep: young people, "black" AND "white" were united as one force, for the first time; but the time has come again. Time to show those who would perpetuate the myth that one part of Humanity - no matter what their skin pigment - is 'better' than another. Each generation has its own struggle - but it IS getting better. Imagine how bad it was before there were any dash-cams, smartphones, or body cams, and the horribly obscene and violent acts these same kinds of cops would do if there was NO WAY TO PROVE what they had done? Don't lose your faith in humanity - that's the WORST thing you could do, because it puts to waste all the deaths and sacrifices of people who have been struggling to change things for the better, for generations. (I lost 3 great-great uncles in the Civil War - all kids in their twenties - and if anyone ever tries to tell you that the Civil War wasn't about slavery - it was. I have all three journals of these young men - just shopkeepers and farmer's sons, and it's all they wrote about [until they were killed] - changing the future for the better for slaves). My father's side of my family was almost lost - only one small boy survived, and even he ran away and tried to join the Union Army. These are the kinds of people that you must understand far outnumber those who are bitter, angry, arrogant, and ignorant racists. The sacrifices have already been made, the times are changing. Have FAITH in your fellow human beings. There are millions - billions - working for change, who will never stop.
@Ohio State Well, not being a Christian, I still respect your belief that you are being looked after, and so on, by your God, His son (depending, of course, on WHICH version of Christianity you are nestled into), the Holy Spirit, and angels - of course in many Christian cults, they actually believe that a blood sacrifice was made 2,000 years ago, and that to show our respect we should eat the flesh and drink the blood of god's 'son' who came to Earth to teach and save us from ourselves. They do this, of course, in front of an idol of that son, not even seeing the irony in any of it, or realizing that ALL of these rituals are from much, much older religions, and that the ceremonies they are engaged in ARE blood sacrifice rituals from Moloch, sacrifices to Zeus, and back, and back, and back - just as their 'flood' narrative is a complete copy of a work from Sumeria, thousands of years prior to Jesus' appearance. I am glad that it comforts you and so many others, but telling me what I should put my faith in is a bit personal, and a bit self-righteous. But that seems to go along with most flavors of Christian believers: the desire to tell everyone else "the good news," and the conviction that only YOUR faith, your God, your savior, is the *true savior,* and all others are false. That's fine - although I wouldn't presume to tell you what YOU should put your faith in (in a religious sense), I know that you can't help it. Having "faith in humanity," however, is not the same concept - in any way - as the faith that you put into your religious belief. It is "faith" used in a broader context, and not a religious one: it simply means having confidence, or at least the hope, that because we have survived this long, we may well muddle our way through to not destroying ourselves or our planet with religious squabbles about 'My God is bigger than your god,' or 'whose country is the most powerful of all,' or "We deserve that land, because OUR God said it belongs to us, thousands of years ago - sorry, but you have to go - or our God says you (Palestinians, and others) can be killed by us if you try to fight back and say the land is yours," and so on. Having 'faith in humanity' doesn't mean that I believe humanity is God, or that there is some intrinsic quality in humanity that should be worshiped. It is the simple belief that humanity is getting better at exhibiting qualities like empathy, understanding, (although it often seems, because modern media gives only the most horrible "news," the most terrible events, and the worst qualities of humanity), that our basic nature, and our hatred of each other over religion, nationality, race, and on and on, is getting WORSE, not better, I have faith, or a simple belief, that we are making progress as a species, and belief that the worst among us are not always destined to rule over us. That's all - I was attempting to reassure my fellow human, Gi Samurai, who seems so discouraged about our species. The comment was, of course, NOT addressed to you, even though you felt compelled to inject your own personal religious belief into it.

The only way to find the one who continue to discriminate in real estate is to send in secret shoppers of different color, who are working together and see the different attitude & treatment & price they get!
This is something that's been going on for centuries it don't just go by renting or buying a home it goes by being employed in the type of job that you're looking for discrimination is something that it's been alive for so long that no one knows what the truth is they've lived it all their lives and they still living today so when will they change because the older you are you know wrong from right it don't take two wrongs to make a right.

I am 58 and my very good friend is almost 80 and she is Black. I LOVE her dearly. We are so close we are sisters and have been since day one for 10 years.
A few years ago here in the UK, I joined members of my church and attended a Conference somewhere outside London. I made the booking over the phone and many people say I sound very posh over the phone and in person. I drove down with another black friend and her 2 teenage kids. Oh! Forgot to mention where the conference was held was in a predominantly white area and my Church at the time was predominantly white. But not racists - very middle and upper middle class. All bookings were made through a gentleman on the phone, whom we met at reception on arrival. The conference was fabulous the Bed and Breakfast was okay. There was a very 'nice' lady who kept hanging around. We would chat then go off for our conference in the Morning and get back after the last Prayer Session. I could not understand why she kept hanging around. Finally on our last day - still very sweet and polite she said she could tell we (like hundreds of others had attended the conference). I said yes. I said there was every likelihood the conference would be annual and we had loved staying there (even though we barely saw the hotel) and would most likely book the place again. She kept beating about the bush - by now I was thinking - I should be on road back to London - it took us hours to get there and would do so again. When you are a person of colour - you don't need to be told when you are experiencing racism - especially here in Britain where people are so polite. She kept fumbling - I looked at her and knew she did not want us back. By now I knew she was the owner anyway. I then began to think back to our conversation as to how 'astonished' she seemed about my accent and our behaviour as black people. I don't know what she expected. At the time I was in my late 30s and my friend of the same age was a mother! We seemed to not fit the stereotype of what she had imagined black people to be like and behave like. In the end when I realised this woman did not want my repeat business - I looked at her - and after all the fumbling and her resistance to my interest in possibly coming back. I looked at her kindly and said - what you are trying to say to me is - you don't want me back. She sighed with relief and nodded her head and looked at me with gratitude. I had said it for what she had tried to say for 15 minutes keeping me standing there. Then she spoke and said she did not want us back. She quickly added that we were incredibly wonderful guests but she just did not want 'us' back. We were the only blacks in the entire Bed and Breakfast which was full because of the conference. She finally felt the release to speak- all of this was being done politely - and she said even the conference was held again she would be happy but she just did not want us in her Hotel. I guess we stood out and she was embarrassed. She said she was happy us finding another hotel but please we were not to come back. I felt sorry for her and you could see how much she was struggling to get it out. I told her I understood- the look of relief on her face and what seemed like shame made me feel sorry for her. I assured her we would respect her wishes. She said she was happy with the conference coming back next year, but she didn't want us to please come back to her hotel. She suggested if we could find a place outside the area. (It was a plush and a nice part of Britain and VERY white). At one stage if we could drive from London for each session of the conference. I explained that would not be practical. The strange thing was I had just spent an entire weekend in God's presence so was filled with a peace that overcame me as she spoke to me. You could see the look of terrible guilt but when you are so ingrained in racism some of these people cannot help themselves. As I drove back to London, I told my astonished friend what had ensued. She could not believe it. However, I think God Whom we had spent the whole weekend worshipping observed in silence because mysteriously come the following year the Annual Conference was not held in that venue so that little town missed out completely on the much needed revenue- because the conference was held during the non tourist period when we know these hotels are desperate for people. She did not want 4 of us (although she was happy to have her hotel filled with people from the conference) and in the end she had no one from the conference the following year. Whatever may have happened - I took it as Divine Judgement. God fighting for His kids. If you are not happy to have 4 of my kids because of the colour of their skin, but you are happy to have all the other posh white people (because people from that church are very posh, but incredibly Godly, God fearing and welcome all races) - Who are also my kids - then in that case you would have none! It is amazing how God fights His children's battles. For those wondering - I told no one back at Church or people at the conference what had happened - neither did of friend. I wondered how that lady felt. She sat waiting confidently for bookings to begin and not one phone call would have come through for that conference. What a huge loss of revenue - but God moved and fought our battles for us. Even as I type this - I am in awe. I believe if she had not done what she did - (picking out the only black people in her hotel that weekend and asking us not to come back to her hotel or even suggesting we find a hotel in a different vicinity. But as long as it was not near her or local) - her hotel would have been packed out the following year. If you push God's people out, because of the colour of their skin hoping to keep your hotel white, he will ensure He pushes out the very people you hope to benefit from and would make sure you don't make a penny from them either. He protects His own!
What a wonderful testimony. Very encouraging. As someone who has experienced bad treatment in the UK, it always made me wonder if there are ever any repercussions for this kind of bad behaviour. Now I know that they are.
Yes, Dr. King said it, but today Blue states like California are so messed up that the opposite is happening. For instance, say there are 9 openings at a college. They want 2 whites, 2 blacks, 2 Asians, 2 Hispanics and 1 "other." It doesn't matter if 9 Asian students worked so hard and they all deserve to be admitted. They are not judged by the content of their character by their skin color. Dr. Walter Williams, "I'm glad that I received virtually all of my education before it became fashionable for white people to like black people."
Lol. It's not funny, at all, but it's just that, in life, people are rarely as overt with their prejudices, especially when it comes to financial transactions. They'll do it round the way.
I'm a black female who was looking to rent an apt. early 90s in Toronto, Canada. The owner of the house set up an appointment with his partner and told me if I wanted the place...it's mine. Went to see it and his partner gave me all this run around even AFTER I told him what was said to me. I called the gentleman I spoke with and got the place. I lived there for 2.5 yrs and NEVER ONCE missed a months rent and took care of the place as though I owned it! That's how I do things. My ONLY HOPE in that experience was that the other guy LEARNED something. That his judgement of ppl with colour is WRONG! Lessons in life eh? 😊
As George Jefferson once said to Archie Bunker about a white bartender: "That bartender is willing to call me 'sir' because if you have enough green in your pocket, then black becomes his favorite color."

The system is made up of five races. The Caucasian, the Blacks, the lndians, the Spanish and the Asians. Asian Americans, are not seen as cacausians. Besides that ,most. people are multi-racial. I am a Jamaican and, Jamaica is one of the most racially stratified countries. Therefore, our motto is "Out of many we are one people".🇯🇲
So sorry this is happening i hope your doing good now i know i dont know you but people are insecure and then base one bad experience and let that speak of an entire culture rather then accepting there is good people in every culture an apple is an apple even withna different skin colour. Just like there is different recipes for the same dish but each recipe is good in its own way. We have to be the change we want to see and educate others and be the example of how we want to be treated. People are stuck in the past and close minded. I was taught to only see people as equal and that it shouldn't matter what their culture or race is. I go by the character of a person and how they treat me that determines if i like someone or not not by their culture it would be boring if we were all the same. There are plenty if nice people all over some of my favourite food is from different cultures which i love food especially butter chicken and mexican food with lots of cheese one track mind getting off track. I am hungry now LOL I can assure you there is nothing wrong with you your no different then me or anyone else and you deserve the same respect i hope things turn out positive for you. And also love has no colour
Great Point. Adding to that, these companies, across the board, need to really know exactly what type of people they are putting in these positions! If not, things like this will continue.
My girlfriend use to do rent homes out like this. She did have a guy who looked like he couldn't afford it. Know what she did, showed him the house anyway. A week later he moved in. It's not that difficult people.
It was like that in Chicago, North side, in the 90s. I got smart and used White Apartment hunters to secure a lease without 1st meeting the owners. They couldn't back out, once the lease was drawn, after meeting me. Ha ha.
What's messed up,Thomas is that you had to do that in the first place. :( I'm a real estate agent and I give my piece of mind to these elitists agents I come across. If I even see the look on their face, I call them out. love ya, be well.
Haha, I did the same in 1986 to get my apartment after being rejected when I showed up, contacted Apartment Finders a white man inquired for me and when they say yes we have, I walked in, she looked embarrassed and I signed the lease. Then again in 1990's to by the house we still live in today, was told bidding closed, of course I did not believe her, called Latter and Blum agent went over there bidding was not closed, I put in my bid and won it. Bless GOD, Thank GOD we never missed a house note.
Happened to me Back in Columbus, Georgia some time ago. Was looking for an apartment and saw an add in the local paper. Called the landlady and was informed it was available. Got there 10 minutes later. When she opened her door and saw me, she promptly told me it was rented already. My first experience of racial prejudice.
Never judge a person by their skin, appearance, and dressing because you never know who they turn out to be👌 Everyone deserve to be treated with the respect that you would want people to treat you😊

We bought our home 15 years ago when they were just built. I've never lived in an area where the neighbors look away to avoid saying hello to you. Mu hubby calls them "Bird Watchers" because they look up in the sky (or away like they're looking for something) when we drive by when the normal thing to do is to look at who's driving by. I would wave just to see if I could "kill them with kindness" and nope, they look right through me. Most of the people here are 2nd owners of these homes and they act the same way. I am such a happy, fun-filled & lovable person and it just breaks my heart that people act that way. I feel like if my house was on fire, I wouldn't even feel comfortable going to knock on their door to seek help. But I never stop praying for our community to become more neighborly.
Years ago I will have the secretary call and make the appointment, I will show up and they will not answer, even though I can hear them come to the door or they will say it was no longer available, but half hour ago it was “oh you can come it is still available’ . Motivates you to buy your own property.
I remember going to an agency for a job decades ago and I heard the woman say, "There is one thing I must tell you, she is black." He asked to see me and I got the job.
I went to Agency also to look for a job and I was told that I was too old (I was in my late 30’s) From that time I stopped looking for a job. Instead I had my own agency where I employee people myself. When life gives you a lemon, make lemonade.
Here is the flip side. While I was mowing my lawn, my neighborhood is urban, albeit affluent (white), a car pulled over and asked if I would come over to mow their lawn a couple of blocks away. This has happened to me a couple other times; while raking the leaves and once while blowing the snow.
I met a soldier once. He said he avoids being in uniform as much as possible because he gets everything free for being in the US Army. He said so much privilege makes him uncomfortable. I said exactly. I know the feeling. I thank GOD for making me intelligent and not a discriminating person.
I agree. As a landlord of 20 plus years, i have never made any decisions based on the color of a tenents skin. I guess its just a coincidence that over the years only my black tenents cost me thousands of dollars and damages. And yet not one time did i ever think it was the color of their skin. I sleep well at night knowing i never discriminated.
Not skin color..character Character formation starts in childhood...loving teaching right behavior.and personal accountability... Reaping what we sow..love our neighbor as our self.. Consequences for behaviors Why ww have so many children gone astray....
This happens all the time. As a puerto rican my grandson who is 13 now has been bullied since he was in kindergarten, now in high-school, the same. Someone in the 10th grade recently punched him he didn't strike back, kids took videos and the school nor the police did anything. My town its very prejudice. They call him brown and many other things. Racist will go on until Jesus returns. It is horrible and it hurts.
Actually, it'll go on until they get tired of being held accountable -- like suing the 10th grader who hit your grandson. It's how America stopped the KKK from lynching -- suing then in court and seizing their properties to pay restitution after the settlements.
Thank you soooo much for that pointed, factual yet upbuilding scenario that happens all too often. We need more tidbits like this to single out the real issuues involving skin color , racism in this country and how it diminishes and negatively impacts everyone and everything in our society. . Keep up the good work of exposing and replenishing..God bless you. .
Years ago one of our bishops decided to test how members acted toward the homeless, color and what not. He disguised himself as a filthy hobo and sat outside the door. Folks passed by as if he did not exist and turned up their noses. When they learned he was one of our bishops from another church branch "they were done"
I heard a story like this and the pastor after worship was said and done came in and only preach Matthew 25. That day the congregation went home feeling guilty.
This is the best example of what i always say about employees . Be very careful of how you talk to people & how you treat people at work . You never know who you're being nasty too & who you're treating wrong . The owner could come at anytime to check up on their business . I don't care what kind of person you really are, what your thoughts, beliefs, religions, dislikes are, or who & what you hate . When you're at work... You respect people, be nice, be fair, be good to them, & you show love ! Even if you have to be phoney, you do it . It doesn't make sense to have a job or own a business... If you're gonna be a mean, nasty, & evil person to the customers & clients .
@@postedscript6824 If one opens their heart they can see others more clearly. Not assuming others are what they've been told as in gossip, medias, etc. & other's opinion, but from the source yourself. Those who do crimes don't represent all peoples of their 'skin tone' but just themselves only. A barrel of apples aren't all bad...would you throw them all away & go hungry if but a few were bad? Or would you throw the few bad away & enjoy the rest? This happened to my husband and I in New Jersey but we ended up getting an Irish woman who had apartments and she rented us without even background and credit score cos we were working people. We r two years in there and it is a good neighborhood too with a parking garage. There are still good people out here and yes we are Africans from Kenya

I’ve experienced this trying to rent in College Station when I was a PhD student at Texas A&M. The landlord basically turned me around when he realized I was black and said someone had just leased the home. I know that was a lie because he wouldn’t have confirmed the appointment for me to do a walk through.

Happens everyday. I saw it firsthand with my mom’s boyfriend in the 70s. White manager refused to rent to him in my presence. She never ran any checks. Boyfriend owned his own business and was prosperous. Mom was a PhD college professor. And it still happens 40 years later.
I have been looking for a 3 bedroom apartments or home to rent for over 5 months. These are available online, but as as I call they'll tell me this or that property has been rented out; SORRY MA'AM! I guess they can tell from my accent I'm not white or born American. But I'm a naturalized citizen, and both my husband and I are nurses with very good income, credit score and much more. This really makes me feel so bad for my African American brothers and sisters who were born here in America and have faced the harshness of evil, in the name of racism. God have mercy! Heaven and hell fire are real places, and no evil person will enter into it, and racism is as evil as murder.
It's sad to see when some people gets a position in life and get swell headed just to assert themselves above other to make them look or feel less of a person.
How could someone dislike videos such as these? These are just some of the unfortunate things happening in our society which needs to be eradicated. One can only assume that those who disliked this video are those who want to see a certain kind reigns supreme over and mistreat another. Some people are just sad cases.
I didn't know this was going to be one of those 'educational' vids. It was pretty good, except James looked like he woke up on his couch dressed in the same clothes as yesterday, and came directly to the house. aCk!
*Just because he is black it doesn’t mean he can’t afford a house just because he is black it doesn’t mean they can’t qualify to rent it discrimination is shit*
Happened to me years ago in Riverdale New York. Also, some areas in Long Island ,the realtors will not even show you an apartment if you are a Black person. They will make excuses and claim the place is already been sold or they have an accepted offer. Sadly, 2021 and this is still happening in New York☹️
Don't know if you have tried to rent lately, but the first thing they check is your credit score. Bad score means bad at handling money and not paying bills on time.
@@cvimomoy Actually that's not what credit scores are. They are a score of your dept to CREDIT. My scores were always bad. And not a lick of dept. I owned my home. And paid through my bank accounts whatever bills arise. Not till I got a few Credit Cards, of which I don't use. Did my score skyrocket. It's purely a financial scam. Cash don't mean squat. How FAR you can go into dept is 😬 And credit cards can get you there, Quickly. They just want you Playing with your money. And that's never a Good Game to play against the house. But that's what they bet on. And they're winning. At 30%... But that wasn't the Point of the comment 🤔😏
So everyday you experience racism ? I think most people are not racist . I only had one incident one time , the police stop me like for 20 minutes because they were looking for a tall hispanic guy that was involved in a fight .I am puertorrican . I didnt take personal and just comply .
Yes "they should stop judging people by their skin color". However, it's been going on for so long, behind closed doors & directly into people's faces without ramifications that the sickening & illegal behavior continues.
No one gets in without a credit check. You always need to screen your tenants. Credit score is an objective way to predict whether or not they'll pay their rent.
Yep! It’s probably because when you let a bunch of Black people in it’s mostly negative results and people who are not from that world can’t relate, no one wants a dangerous neighborhood in fear of being called a racist...and honestly, if black folks hate white folks so much why would they even want to live in a white neighborhood? I know that if I felt someone was racist I wouldn’t wanna be anywhere near them...
@@weltonvillegal6258 Well then that’s how I know this whole “discrimination” thing is bullshit LOL, if it’s a black area where a bunch of other blacks live, why would they turn down a black person? Doesn’t make sense LOL, proves my point even more, seems like an issue with the individual, not race...
I'm getting so tried of this. I do not look at color of your skin, look at your heart. I'm white. I was not rise like that. When I was growing up I didn't understand Martin Luther King I was only 13. When I got out on my own I understand what he said. I have hearing that all my life. We are all God's people. We need to act right together.
@Billy Dickens You can look at the skin color, AND the heart. You should not need to "not see" and "not look at" my skin color in order to accept me. SEE ME! See the whole person, and respectfully treat every whole person... as a whole person.
Well now, if you tired how do you think I feel being around all this time and to see the craziness of it all still happening.

I wouldn't want to rent from her either.

Isn't it the same kind of thing like you are free to marry or not certain people?
Discrimination happens everywhere in the workplace, schools, housing etc.
You guys are acting , but this is really happened to me in real life so many times, I can't even count !
"Exactly"
It happens to me too. It has my whole life. And I know complaining to certain people will just make them say I’m pulling the race card. Most people use buzz words instead of straight out language so they can deny. Cowardly

I am a white man and I got great satisfaction in how this racist was shut down. It should not take all this effort to get people fair and equal treatment. It is past time that we treat people by the content or their heart, not the color of their skin. I think Dr. Martin Luther King shared that many years ago. It needs to catch on.

Happens all the time...for the one good they are 9 out of 10 bad out there
For every one person like that, there are at least 2 that are not.
I can understand. But theres still many good humans in this world amen...
The comment was, of course, NOT addressed to you, even though you felt compelled to inject your own personal religious belief into it.
... lose hope with living. It's like, "what's the point!"... so very disturbing and sad.
Sadly this still happens to a lot of people.

Don’t virtue signal. That came out of left center field. If color doesn’t matter right?

Thank you for sharing this video. My hubby and I live in Long Beach, CA in a 48 unit development where there's not a lot of black people living here or the surrounding area.

Dude this is some bullishit I turn away white or black tenants all the time for various reasons. This is completely inaccurate
When i first came to Canada I was told to go back to my country, I don't belong here.
God does not judge by the color of your skin came to save everyone matters what is in the heart of each and everyone of us when you slit your skin we all have the same blood running through us and we all end up in the same place 6ft under treat people how you would like to be treated we are all brother and sister under one God 🙏
Amen
Hmmmmmmmm one soul different colors yet look at all these? In haven there’s no color but souls. May God have mercy on us all! Is really sad if all human on this earth are to be white, what would be the beauty of it? God in His own wisdom wants this world to be beautiful with many colors but humans have the gout to discriminate against each other! The creator would come!!

I'm seriously old school, would it be so much trouble to use some punctuation here. You don't talk this way, so why write like this. It's ridiculous!!
@@janetconner2960 sorry didn't realize I was being graded or was in english class your right I don't talk like that but I also don't stop when I'm talking and say period comma question mark at the end when I say something just like now sorry if I offend you or disappointed you God bless!!
Thanks for educating someone people. Be blessed

Love the way they fired him, but u have to always be aware of people like him they are everywhere.
You got that right
And they have to be aware that the people that they are discriminating are their own boss or CEO
Great Moral and Video 😍 Great Work to those people who made it 👍
I have been looking for a 3 bedroom apartments or home to rent for over 5 months.
Correct...
I agree well said
Something like this needs to be a commercial made for television.

I happen to love this video!!! Very good, very good🙏🏽❤️🥰🥰🥰
It's sad to see when some people gets a position in life and get swell headed just to assert themselves above other to make them look or feel less of a person.
How could someone dislike videos such as these? These are just some of the unfortunate things happening in our society which needs to be eradicated. One can only assume that those who disliked this video are those who want to see a certain kind reigns supreme over and mistreat another. Some people are just sad cases.

I agree with you treat everyone the same no matter what color or nationality
WE all BLEED...red.
Yeah you’re right!!! People shouldn’t judge at all.
I got told that from a black landlord in 1988 u couldn't afford the place. So to me every race and nationalities has some that discriminate
Happened to me years ago in Riverdale New York. Also, some areas in Long Island ,the realtors will not even show you an apartment if you are a Black person. They will make excuses and claim the place is already been sold or they have an accepted offer. Sadly, 2021 and this is still happening in New York☹️

Wow,.. You have a Good Credit Score 😂
Yeah. Don't judge me by my Color. Just judge me under a Different Label.
Don't know if you have tried to rent lately, but the first thing they check is your credit score. Bad score means bad at handling money and not paying bills on time.
@@cvimomoy
Actually that's not what credit scores are.
2021 with this powerful democracy and racism still exists the same as 20 years ago.
I have been so Blessed to love all people and this scenario breaks my heart
Normal day today life for blacks folks, I myself and my wife experience the same plus friends stories too
So everyday you experience racism ? I think most people are not racist . I only had one incident one time , the police stop me like for 20 minutes because they were looking for a tall hispanic guy that was involved in a fight .I am puertorrican . I didnt take personal and just comply .
@@Jets33606 ….good for you
Yes "they should stop judging people by their skin color". However, it's been going on for so long, behind closed doors & directly into people's faces without ramifications that the sickening & illegal behavior continues.

Did you see Eric, the owner check his credit score before showing him the place. Well, I say the owner has a little soul-searching to do as well.
It was part of the script, allowing the actor to say, "Wow, you've got a great credit score!"
@@Maijoyful Hmmm, they may need to rewrite the script if you ask me, I'm just saying. Thanks for your reply.
No one gets in without a credit check. You always need to screen your tenants. Credit score is an objective way to predict whether or not they'll pay their rent.
Both trump and his father have a long history of housing discrimination starting in the 60s.
@@jonesaundre3 - Actually it was in PG County, which is heavily African American.
That includes Trump's supporters who never forgave the 60s for literally bringing in color after the 1950s (True fact)! : \
Sorry i was 8 hours late. This why nobody should jugde a persons personality it does not matter if we look differnt we srill can be nice!!
I've taught my kids that all their lives. I'm proud to say they listened.
We can't help because God chose all race. Am sooooo thankful, God loves has no choice of color. Thank You Lord. For your true LOVE.❤❤❤
All those people who gave their lives over the last 50 years, to know of this foolishness going on in 2020-21 would kill them all over again. Yes I’m really tired of it all too.
