    President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the 122nd Labor Day celebration that carries the theme, ‘Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino, Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag-asenso’, in a program at the Ceremonial Hall in Malacañan Palace on May 1, 2024.
    This year’s Labor Day coincides with the golden anniversary celebration of the Labor Code of the Philippines through Presidential Decree No. 442 signed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos on May 1, 1974.
    A signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Workers Rehabilitation Center (WRC) Site Development Plan is presented to the Chief Executive by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. and Mayor Rafael Tanjuatco of Tanay, Rizal.
    The 50-hectare Workers Rehabilitation Center will be constructed in Tanay, Rizal to support the ‘Balik Buhay Manggagawa’ of employees who encountered work-related disabilities or injuries and assist them to recover so they can eventually return to their jobs or be able to work again. Funding will be sourced from the Employees’ Compensation Commission and its investment arms, the Social Security System (SSS) and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
    Apart from the program in Malacañan Palace, the Marcos Administration prepared a lineup of activities to honor the country’s hardworking labor force today. More than 200,000 job vacancies are available in the 95 simultaneous job fairs participated by over 2,400 employers across the nation.
    Filipino workers and consumers can access affordable products from almost 2,500 sellers and more than 1,000 enterprises in 92 Kadiwa ng Pangulo sites nationwide, the biggest conduct of Kadiwa to date.
    DOLE facilitated the payouts for its essential programs such as the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), Government Internship Program (GIP) and Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).
    Awarding of livelihood projects worth over PhP671 million to 35,000 beneficiaries are also transpiring throughout the country while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) set up booths in 70 sites nationwide for skills training in various industries.
    Furthermore, Filipino workers are given free rides in LRT 2 and MRT 3 today from 7 am to 9 am, and from 5 pm to 7 pm.
