- Love at first sight! I’m spontaneously appraising the really varied vintage and antique items people have brought to 'Tique Stock in Marshall, Michigan! We never know what’s coming up next, and part of our job is to ask the questions needed to understand the things that come with great lore.
Sometimes, appraisals go up, up, up, as in the case of Mike @WellSwung, whose several hundred dollar purchase of an important 1948 fashion illustration book pays off when he reveals the signature of a famous designer!
Lots of unusual items come to this appraisal fair, from Italian ceramics to art deco gold, and everyone is having fun telling the stories of how these atypical items came to be with them.
There’s a whole lot of appraisals here! We try hard to be accurate, but this video is our unvarnished first look at all these items. Enjoy this long format video, and leave a comment!

Fun to hear what the owners have to say ! Great time !
i always love watching these type of videos. i didnt get a chance to see much of this in person cuz i was out at my booth so i'm glad you put this up. wish i would have brought something to get appraised just wasnt enough time in the days leading up to tique stock this year lol. thanks for the help with the viking candle holders though it was great you could confirm that for me! it was so great getting to meet you in person!
I'm so glad you were there though! It was fun seeing the candle holders
Where did you get those bakelite testing strips?
I came here to find out too! Cool
I asked too!
Those fashion plates are amazing, I think it is easliy worth $8000.-$10000. A real treasure!!!!
Very possibly so! If I'd had better wifi access, I'd have looked for comps
Very cool! I enjoy it immensely!
Wonder if he ever coes to Georgia, would love to bring something!
This was the BEST!! I loved seeing all of these items. Thank you George!!❤
What were those moist pads you used to test that yellow necklace to see if it was bake light?
I believe the polar bear figures are early Krinkles by Patience Brewster. She was a classmate of mine and we live nearby, I will send this to her for verification.
That was my thought also.
Mu-ra-no. Not Myur-ano. 😂 And, yes. I agree on the value of the paperweight - unless Jocelyn (CLL) is selling it. Then it would go for at least $100
You are correct about the pronunciation, I tend to anglicize it
I agree with you about Jocelyn's auction prices. I watch her sales, but most items go for way more than I can do. Competition is tough, especially if one lovely lady wants it. I have a few pieces from Berner Brothers that were more reasonable.
Something tells me that posting a photo of a child in a soldiers uniform nowadays would cause a bit of controversy.
I'm sure it did then too
The gentleman with the book may want to make sure the plastic bags he's putting his book in don't cause any damage to it.
Good point!
Noted.
The Dior book is amazing!!!!!
Always learn something from George's videos
🎉
I'd love to meet someone like yourself. I have a very large Victrola dated 1903, Thomas Edison. My grandmother owned 3 silent movie theatres and this came from one of them. It does still play.
Fun!
Hello to Mike (Well Swung) !
Hey Suzy! ❤
The fashion illustrations were interesting.
Come to Fresno California.. Please!!🥰
Well swung was there!!! Love him ! George your amazing
Thanks Susan! Thanks for tuning in!
Getting ready to watch the replay!😊❤
Hard to watch this one with the interrupting woman.
I believe it is the person who is responsible for the recording and the feed when it was live.
George, you have
Personality Plus!
I love you so much❤
❤❤❤
Lovely red bottle, very graceful lines.
That was great one George, I love the appraisal videos. The back to back ephemera was amazing!
It sure was!
I Love watching you and following your channel ☺️
Hi George, such a nice video to watch !! Take cae, Janet 🎉
George and Mike together! ❤️
What an amazing book Mike!
I so agree! Mike was full of energy and was a joy to watch how he interacted with George.
Thanks Sally! It was great hanging out with George and getting to know him more!
I lived by Rick Wisecarver in Roseville ohio for yrs..wonderful artist
28:53 Is it me or does the guy with the book look a heckuvalot like George? A New Look DIOR et cie sketchbook????? Holy guacamole. I think George is light on the price. In a fashion auction this thing would go nuts! Dude's purchase price x factor of 10, I'd think.
It is entirely possible you're right. The more he revealed about the signatures, the better it got!
There were a few of my favorite illustrations that didn’t get shown either ; ) lots of incredible pieces in that book!
Love these videos. Thank you George😊
You are very welcome
Good evening, George. I watched the appraisal fair when it was live. There were a lot of things people brought that were fascinating. With it being Mother's Day, and the situation as it is, I just wasn't up to getting in the chat...it was a difficult day. It was a _very_ welcome distraction for me, though. I liked the Polish Orthodox icon. I have an Orthodox icon of the Virgin and Child that has a couple marks on it, but I can't make out what they are. The 1948 fashion design book was a really fantastic find. It's not exactly my thing, but I am able to recognise the value and importance of it. It should _always_ be kept intact. The micro-mosaic dog was a really nice piece, and the tintype, with the child in uniform, was really unusual to see. The Red Riding Hood pin is something I would actually buy. I have an antique, upright photo album, with diamond-shaped mirrors in each "door" on it, on which I put old brooches. That would be a great addition. That was a really fun appraisal fair - both yesterday and tonight! I really enjoy seeing what people have collected and bring for an appraisal!
We used to hear that refinishing older furniture ruined its value.
Interesting to hear George tell the owner of the Lane end table that refinishing it would increase its value.
Thank you for explaining why the JFK newspapers are not as valuable as we thought they were. You'd need to have the one from Dallas.
I think the furniture needs to be professionally refinished. With so many people refinishing furniture these days after watching you tube videos, it makes me worry.
Refinishing would need to be thoughtful, but it's not so hard to restore mid-century finishes because they were all factory formulated and applied.
Jocelyn would go crazy for that Italian cat tree!!!
Fantastic appraisals! Loving watching it George!
Many thanks!
Wild george you Did it again?
Love this short. I love to shine a black light around in my house.😂😂😂😂😂😂😊😊😊
the man who had the artest book is so excited his eyes are sparkling.
I noticed that too
That's Mike. He has a RUclips channel. Well Swung.
Yes, I am pretty excited about it lol I love art and knew I had to have it!
Made George eyes sparkle ✨️ too
Had a great aunt who worked at the Yale mission in China in the early part of the twentieth century. Have lots of embroidery items she brought back. She said the "forbidden stitch " is actual from the forbidden city. Taught to the Chinese by French missionaries and is the same as a French knot! Antique dealers love to create stories that make their items more interesting.
It's similar but different from what I have been told in some manner. I'll have to look into it more!
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
@theantiquenomad, do you know of any other you tubers who do what you do...but with a slant towards textiles instead of glassware or ceramics? Thanks!
Antiques road show vibes🙂
Thank you for this interesting video. Lots to learn !
Glad it was helpful!
what are those cloth squares for testing for bake lite and where do I get some? Thanks
That really was so fun! Next time I’ll try to be sure and watch during the ‘Live’!
Looked on line for Quakehhold, but there are soooo many. Which one do you use?
I have refurbished Lane Acclaim pieces before. I sold a set for $450, a small side table for $145 and a single step table for $175 that I paid $10 for.
Love this edit. I love to the No mad appreciate and tell the history. Please show more
More programming like this. I found it informative and enjoyable. Unlike other venues.
Thanks!
Yes, you are so right
This video had to be one of my ALL TI E FAVORITES, George. Between the excitement & enthusiam & the well informative discussions, you were on the edge of your seat.😂 👏👏👏🩷
Wow, thanks! I really enjoyed this one too
I love watching you George. You are so knowledgeable, very appreciative of every item you see even if it may not have much value. You recognize and appreciate the connection the person may have to such a piece. Your voice is soothing as well. I look forward to many more videos from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Oh there is a lady from Murray Ky. selling the barrel table and chairs as well as the couch on FB marketplace for 1500.
The Lane piece was from the Lane Acclaim line. I’d love to get my hands on the boomerang table and the switchblade table. I have the square end table, in beautiful condition, with its original finish. I bartered for it - I gave two pairs of wool socks that I knitted for it.
Can't do better than George and Well Swung hashing out a steller find.
Thanks Tim! I had such a good time with George, Rosie and everyone who attended Tique Stock 2024!
18 minutes on the guy with the book? Really? So many other things worth the time. Great information otherwise. Love many of the items. A cheap "glue" for holding things down is dental adhesive. I've used it for a few years. Easily washes off and cheap.
Some very cool pieces in this one George. The micro mosaic dog piece had an amazingly polished surface, usually they a rougher. Loved the fashion look book, really beautiful high fashion styles in there. It looks like a good time was had by all.🖤🇨🇦
It sure was, I'm glad you too!
I would love to get a link to order the Bakelite test cloths! Love the video. Thanks, George.
Thank you so much for Sharing. I so enjoy the appraisal video. Iearn so much. Please Stay Safe Happy and Healthy Have A Wonderful Day
Thanks George!
I had a blast over the weekend and I look forward to seeing you again hopefully sooner than later!
Safe travels! ✌️
George, this was great!
I really enjoyed this appraisal fair George! So many interesting items! I also loved watching you and Rosie at the live auction. You did a fantastic job! I enjoy listening to auctioneers. So much fun!
Thanks! I'll try it again sometime
I could watch you do valuations all day. I wish you could come to Australia. I would be first in line !
great video and you have so much knowledge, pity the close ups were not clear to see the fine details
That was fun. Love your videos. ❤ JoAnn
Amazing videos George!
Lovely episode and very special ! My Dad was a Costume Taylor from Italy, Emigrated to New York and had a Small Shop in NYC
Madison Ave.
With this been said ; The Dior book bought back memories of my dad’s books of figurines that he had, He would also custom Sewed Classics for women.
As mater of facts ! Dad, made a pantsuit for Miss. Universe 1979.
Thank You George!
As always your videos are enjoyable, informative and relaxing to watch, I have learned so much in the Antique world of collectibles.
Grazie Mille!
Arrivederci!
I’m Eastern Orthodox and I absolutely love that icon, we have a copy in my home 🥰🥰☦️
That's neat! I'm a fan, very reverent and beautiful
I love Art Nouveau
Love these videos George!👏👏👍🇦🇺
Interesting ! So many varied pieces . Thank you George !
I wish that I had known that George was in Marshall. I live about 10 miles away.
I'll be back in September
Love watching George!!
Love these videos where you do appraisals! Thanks George 😊
There were some eclectic items. All beautiful in their own way. ❣️✨️
That fashion compendium is absolutely fabulous!!!!
Watching from England
Great video!
Is that an evil eye piece, glowing glass?
Please come to Rockwood Tennessee, we have a lot of antiques stores here, i have lot of old things i need appraised!! Loved this show, you are so knowledgeable! We have a Flea World youd enjoy too!! Thank you, George!
Awesome, loved this!
I have a coffee table that matches that piece.
I saw the part about fenton collaborating with other artists and I was looking at a cat figurine I got at goodwill and found the "Fenton USA stamp on the cat that I hadn't seen before. The cat is made of a heavy stone and there's a signature on the bottom of the cat that I'm still trying to make out. I just found it online. It is a Fenton Chocolate Glass cat and it's one of 2 pieces.
✨💖✨
Didn’t McCoy mark some of their stuff USA on the bottom?
Hello from Kansas
Elderly poodle is Mike @ Well Swung! I am often with him as a subscriber on Scott’s old curiosity shop channel during live auctions. It’s nice to put a handsome face with a name. I love watching George for his wonderful personality, his incredible expertise and the wide variety of content on his channel.
It was really fun to meet him and see such a great item!
Hey Kathleen!
I’m not familiar with Elderly Poodle unfortunately!
@@WellSwung gosh, how embarrassing! Sorry, Mike. Red face here!🙀
No worries!
Well hung ? Did u say ?
This appraisal/discussion was so exciting to watch! Now I know that Mike is Elderly Poodle! I only know his face from his glass channel, Well Swung. I just love what you all do (you too Rosie who is on fire at auctions!) and appreciate it so much that you share it with us.
Say what!?
Glad you enjoyed it! Mike is not elderly poodle though, she's out in California
@@TheAntiqueNomad Thanks George! That was literally blowing my mind!😅 You never know!
Yep, lol I can confirm I’m not Elderly Poodle ; )
@@WellSwung Teehee!😅
I collect cat figurines and things with cats on them.
So much fun,😊
So so many interesting things 🎉
Lane " Acclaim" is difficult to refinish because of the 2 types of wood.
Thank you for the line name, I always forget tht one for some reason
It really isn't that difficult. Stripping with Citrastrip, and then using a walnut stain over the entire thing and then using Howard's Wax n Feed is all I have ever done.
The book of illustrations 😮 wow!
Hi Mike 😊
Hey Kim!
This was a lot of fun!
Thank you everyone!
It's great George to see Heidi's ' Tiquestock' growing so fast.
That's wonderful.
Take care -Safe travels. ♡
It was sure fun for me too!
I'm trying to find those bakelite testing pads. Do you know what the brand name is and/or where to find them?
Thank you so much for all your great information, George!
Answered my own question! Found them on Etsy.
Great Video! George, you're a trip
Oh I have a nice strung button necklace. I wear it lol
Love the book❤❤❤S
Great video!!!
I can't believe you two men are handling that document without gloves! 😮
❤❤❤❤
