As a kid I used to live at Swift River along the Alaska Highway in the 70’s and remember the Cassiar trucks hauling back and forth on the gravel highway of the time.
I have great memories of working and living in Cassiar from 1976 to 1989. I got married in Cassiar to Barbara and our son Adam was born there in 1984. I made a bunch of good friends and it was (still is) one of the most beautiful places I have lived in. Very sad it is gone and there will never will be another community like Cassiar.
Well you say you lived in this town and did you know the plant manager of the mining operation his first name is Mike I met him in Washington state he was the last one there and lock the gate behind him when he left I have more info for you if you what 🤔

You showed the shed I worked at 1:50 in where the tramway came through. I had to push each ore bucket to make sure it didn't get stuck. Dangerous work, and not much concern for safety in those days.
Was only there once...hauled a load to Vancouver on a return trip from Whitehorse just before the mine closed. Will always remember my short visit there.
Worked there on the tramline at the top of the mountain--got -55 one night shift--ore would freeze up--buckets fall off--good times--the town was beautiful
Just drove the Cassiar Highway-from the Arctic Circle to the Bay Area solo. That area was an unexpected highlight for me. Thank you Canada for the privilege of traversing your beautiful country. A shout out to Iris Dement-the writer of “Our Town”. Saw her sing it live with Greg Brown. Not many dry eyes in the audience. Iris Dement writes many other lovely songs like it.
We bought the Cassiar community centre , a 3br house and 18 townhouses by the ski hill. Buildings moved to Dease Lake, abandoned now. The steel frame for the community centre went to Duncan BC on trucks. Sat for 15 or 16 years then scrapped anyway.
The Cassiar montain range is so very beautiful. I lived in Dease Lake for a number of years in the 80's and 90's. I still miss Dease lake sometimes, but not the cold.... brrrr...
Hello I meet a Guy by the name of Mike that was the plant manager at the mine and he told me lots of story's and that he was the one at the end that locked the gate I worked with him in Washington state he was the QC where I worked and was living in the Abbotsford Bc area with his wife funny thing they both worked about 35 to 40 miles from there house one way in Washington state ⛏️😀

I worked there from 1977 to 1980 worked in the mill for three months by that time we had to wear masks so i ask for transfer to the mine 1week later nothing happen so i want back to h.r. and said if i don't get transferred i will leave. 2 days later i was working up at the mine. I was never told anything about the the risk of getting sick. I'm so glad i got the transfer
Yeah it's pretty gross. Check out "Abandoned BC: Cassiar" on lifeofluke's channel. Big old tailings pile in the open air, and loads of rusted out vehicles and equipment. Who knows what's leaching into the ground up there?..

I worked there for a month in the late summer of 1972 or thereabouts. Not much of it left now.

I wondered who the singer was. She did some work with the late John Prine.
I never made it to Cassiar but this brought back lots of memories of Clinton Creek and Elsa/United Keno Hill Mines.
My brother still lives on mickey creek across from clinton creek.

@@MattFenlon I was environmental technologist there for a bit - asbestos is not soluble so it doesn't leach.
