They're really not your average dog. We have our first grey (rescued but not an ex racer) and he's perfect. They are so funny and loving. He throws tantrums too but they are adorable!!
I have one! (This is my third grey!) He is the gentlest giant ever! They are perfect companions, especially for family’s! They are hypoallergenic (meaning they don’t shed and is grey-t for people with dog allergies!), and (depending on the dog) are usually amazing with kids! Tips (for any dog really!): -Watch out for their tails (especially grey’s, their tails are like helicoper blades)! They can get a thing called Happy Tail, where when the dog is so happy, they hit their tails and they bleed. My suggestion is to wrap it tightly, because their tails wag like crazy! -Put plain YoGurt in their food, it’s tasty and it helps their stomachs -Get a Kong! You can put peanut butter in it, then put a little treat in the middle! Have fun!
Ur less likely to be depressed with a grey... until they're not there anymore. Then ur heart will break because they have become such an important part of your life. But I wouldn't change a thing
I have always had a soft spot for greyhounds I have one myself she's a rescue dog an ex racing dog and a real couch potato I live alone and she's wonderful company I love the bones off her and she is very fond of me and is constantly following me around my flat making sure I don't sneak off out without her I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dog they are very gentle easy to please dogs and make brilliant and wonderful family pets and are extremely loyal and devoted to their owners
Had my Riley for 8yrs..best dog I ever had...she stole my heart..my heart was broken when bone cancer came to visit..had her cremated and she is still with me
Great video! really sold the qualities of a Greyhound and why they should be adopted. They are amazing and unique and have a very calming effect on people. Their gentleness is the first thing you feel when owning a GH; they really make you become a more gentle person. Adopt a retired greyhound and save the life of these beautiful Hound's. It will be the best thing you ever did.
I just got my retired racing girl a few days ago. Shes adjusting to my house, her new life and loving me soooo much quicker than i ever could have anticipated. Shes great with my other family members, kids, other dogs and she hasnt barked once since ive got her. Im in love with the breed!
I have adopted three Greyhounds, all were retired racers. Sadly one has passed away. One of them didn't get the memo about the limited barking. Even with some barking they are the MOST amazing dogs.
I rescued my Greyhound when he was one year old and had him 14 years. He saw my sons grow up and was so much part of our family. In all those years never had a growel from him or bad behaviour, they can be aloof and don't crave attention and watching them run for fun is pure beautiful, art and speed they are so graceful and gentle in nature, be careful if you have a cat and my wasn't so keen on foxes or squirrels but a loyal companion, but be warned you will need two sofas one for you and one for your greyhound :)
Greyhounds are big coach potatoes and lovey dovey babies!! Ppl think they need a lot of exercise,NOT TRUE, a good run 2x a day & they’re fine, they much rather lounge w their family!! They’re loyal and protective over their family if someone tries to hurt them. A GREYHOUND IS THE BEST RESCUE & LIFE TO SAVE!!
We just got our first greyhound a few weeks ago and he is Awesome. So well trained, loving and very smart. Doesn’t like the bush turkey that comes in our backyard 🤣😳 We all love him so much, I just can’t understand how anyone could kill them 🥲😡
As soon as I buy my first home, I’m heading to the GAP centre 😍 Have lived with my house mates labs for about 10 years and have loved seeing the Greyhounds As Pets team out and about. Gorgeous dogs and so chilled. But very quirky 😆
Thank you for the video. I love greyhound, whippet , galgo and others and i know that they are the most treated bad dogs in the world !! They are so beautiful , elegant , adorable e good dogs!!
I know this video is 2 years old, but I adopted my ex racing greyhound 3 weeks ago. He has settled in very well. He is lazy and he pinches your seat if you move and will not move. lol. He stinks when he farts. He is very lovely. He looks out for cats when we go for walks. I think our staffordshire bull terrier has told him where every cat lives locally. ;) He is filling out nicely as I think he was too thin and his coat is looking loads better. I am proud to walk him in the streets. My SBT wants him to play at times and he just wants to laze around. lol
Quiet and relaxed.....except when a ambulance or ice-cream truck drives anywhere near the town you live in, then they go full wolf (howling at the moon) for 5 minutes. :)
Greyhounds come into your life and change it for the better! They are loving, funny, intelligent and an absolute 💯 great dog to have! I wud recommend anyone to have one👍
I have a bull grey hound cross and he’s the cutest dog I’ve ever owned. He’s a great hunter for the local farmers. We have had issues with him around their dogs but I believe that’s from the hunting and what ever dog he is crossed with. He has a bigger head and smaller snout then most greyhounds but his mother is a whippet and he runs so fast, and for ages he doesn’t drop his speed and agility!!! Such fun to watch on dog walks!!!! I love my rocky so much. He’s such a lazy dog at home tho but when he plays oweeee he plays aha. He’s 6 now and starting to go abit grey on his face but he still acts like a puppy. He loves to bite and rip apart pillows and tissue (his weird side) but he’s so loving and protects my family like a proper guard dog!!!! YEH TO GREYHOUNDS
Greyhounds are probably my favourite dog breed. I have always preferred those dogs who are calm and gentle over the ones who bark a lot and jump up at you.
We take our greyhound rocky on runs beside a bike as he has so much energy a walk just doesn’t satisfy him. We do let him on fields to go do his dog thing.
They're such great dogs. My family had 2 when I was a kid. I miss them both every day. Would love to get another some day. But my little miniature dachshund does do well with other dogs (shes blind and deaf).
I suffer from clinical depression and am planning on getting a greyhound or whippet as an emotional support dog when I move. The place I live in now doesn’t really have the most trustworthy breeders.
Side note about them being a good apartment dogs. Make sure that your pup is fine with being alone and not prone to loud fussing. As long as you have that in place, you'll be fine.
They have no genetic issues at all. They have so little body fat that they need special anesthesia at the vet. They live so long for a big dog that cancer ends up taking many, or getting hit by cars :-( Keep your gh leashed!

Unfortunately they are expensive when it comes to vet bills and it seems like they're more susceptible to health problems. #9. My greyhound is a registered Therapy Dog and we visit the local hospital and a nursing home weekly, and patients and residents absolutely love him. Next year we hope to get into the R.E.A.D. program. Therapy dog services love greyhounds, because they are so relaxed and don't jump up ar people they are visiting, and they can sense when someone is not well.
I had a chance yo get to play with a bunch of rescued racing greyhounds and they were the sweetest mist adorable dog's and I'd love yo have one but I also need a dog to double as a protective animal over my girlfriend and future kids but greyhounds are too nice for that
I love all sight hounds. One warning though, some may occasionally bolt when they see a cat/other small animal, and definitely do have the capability to catch, and kill it!
Yep, it really should be stated that these dogs have been bred to chase and kill small furry stuff! Most will be fine. But care should be taken around small furries! The upside is that sighthounds are generally easy to muzzle train
Ok I had a Great Dane. My wife and I use to take 3 mile dog walks after work and 6 miles round trip Saturday mornings. Ok so are they a good breed for long walks? Maybe? I am looking for a calm breed...
@@grayman735 They are calm, but they aren't endurance dogs. They like a shorter walk and ideally if possible a bit of a sprint and that will do them. My grey would actually stop in his tracks if he felt the walk was going to far from home. :)
Im in love with galgos , and podencos i found mine running on a country Road and i fell in love with my podenca. Im hoping to adopt her cousin a galgo soon

We've had Irish Wolfhounds and now a Whippet. "Long Dogs" rule. Short lived banning of Greyhound racing in NSW was the best. Sad to see it revoked and sadder to see this years Melbourne Cup entrant destroyed on track just for human profit. :( Get a Greyhound
they are great apartment dogs! For those of you in a cityscape great dogs, and also chick magnets. If you are in the North you can pick out coats and collars, or if your in the south you can take em to the beach. I will say though... They fart. so after you find the woman of your dreams and you have to fart. Blame it on the dog ;)
As a greyhound owner I've watched loads of GH vids and read loads of comments saying how special they are. I'm sure if I looked at Corgi videos I'd read comments about how special and unique Corgis are. If I looked at Australian Kelpie videos all the comments would be about how amazing and special Kelpies are. It's not a contest. All dogs are wonderful. OK, 95% of dogs are wonderful. 5% are Horrible.
Agree with everything in video except length of life. Average isn't 15 years. That's too high. We've had 4 Greys.. Only one passed due to age which was 13 years & five months when we lost him. First one made it to 9 years, second one to 11 years, third was the 13 year old, & fourth was 9 years. Two had osteosarcoma & last had neurological issues & went lame two months ago. But I wouldn't trade them for any other dog/breed. Our hearts are broken. We miss him & aren't sure about getting another. Not emotionally ready. 💔

I really like the idea of a greyhound.. my only concern is they look fragile. I was brought up with spaniels and Labradors/retrievers.. they had padding and I knew they were fairly sturdy dogs.. are greyhounds as fragile as they look.? I have 3 kids that would love a dog in their lives, and I feel that this could be our choice.. can someone advise me please?
No problems there. They are quite hardy dogs. They will however require a nice bed or lounge to sleep on and plenty of pats. Greyhound temperaments vary a bit, but if you get one that has been fostered and they note the dogs preferences, you can find one that is absolutely fantastic with kids. They are all gentle souls, but some suffer from sleep startle or don't like lots of noise, which isn't ideal with younger children. Conversely many are absolutely fine and indeed brilliant with young children. That's why its important to get your grey from an organisation that has fostered the dogs and learn't about their individual personalities. You will get a dog perfect for your family. We had our greyhound for twelve years before old age got him. Our kids grew up with him and we all miss him terribly. Wonderful animals.
Thank you for the post! This is a wonderful summation of points on the value of adopting a Greyhound! However, you don't mention whether they do well with other dogs or cats. We have a cat, about one year old now, female and she is very independent but wants us to be around most of the time.
Everything is true, except, they are not rescued, they are retired. With stricter regulations worldwide now, greyhounds are not killed when they can't or won't race. They get the best care at the kennels so they can be good racers. You can't abuse or neglect a greyhound and then expect them to race their best. That's just silly. Here in the USA, greyhound handlers are with their greyhounds 7 days a week, up to 14 hours a day taking care of them. They walk them every day, sprint run them for exercise and to keep their muscles strong, they have playtime every day, they get rub downs every day and some kennels even have whirlpools for them to soak in. They get 2 balanced meals a day plus treats in between. After their racing career is over, they go home with their owners, go to farms for breeding or go to adoption groups to get adopted. None are ever killed. Every retired racer gets a home. They absolutely love to race each other to catch the lure. It's a fun game for them. They are wonderful lives from birth until they are adopted.
Retired Greyhounds are the best dogs I've ever known. Truly gentle, majestic giants and very intelligent.
Oh yes 🙌
They're really not your average dog. We have our first grey (rescued but not an ex racer) and he's perfect. They are so funny and loving. He throws tantrums too but they are adorable!!

Reasons 1- 10: Greyhounds are the BEST dogs ever. The End
I Love greyhounds ❤
Reducing Ellie was the best thing we ever did. Great for the apartment. Sleeps all day, loves a cuddle/pat.
What exactly is the process for reducing a dog? It sounds very painful. I think if you want a smaller dog you should look for a smaller breed.
IM DOING THAT TOO! I have bad anxiety and PTSD and need a friend. Please ADOPT a greyhound, there are so many out there.
You'll have to do the walks which is good for depression, so double benefit.
Side note about them being a good apartment dogs. Make sure that your pup is fine with being alone and not prone to loud fussing. As long as you have that in place, you'll be fine.
i have two greyhounds they are the best dogs ever
You deserve a lot more subs
Another thing is that they dont get hip displacer
They have no genetic issues at all. They have so little body fat that they need special anesthesia at the vet. They live so long for a big dog that cancer ends up taking many, or getting hit by cars :-( Keep your gh leashed!
Whippets too! :)
Yes whippets are amazing too.
And iggies! They are all equally awesome!
Whippets are absolutely crazy
I would love to adopt a Greyhound.
I'm on a waiting list to adopt one. I can't wait.

Greyhounds would be considered a healthy breed, certainly for such a large dog. They are very fit, by definition, and the gene pool is huge compared to other large breeds
The large gene pool is probably the only good thing to come out of the racing industry
I'd adopt two greyhounds if my mum wasn't so traditional in her beliefs. Maybe when I move out.
They are beautyful🐾❣🐾
My ole boy was a brindle just like this boy........... & we have a cat called Rhiannon. He washed her & she tolerated it!!! 😊

nice I'm getting one

I really like the idea of a greyhound.. my only concern is they look fragile. I was brought up with spaniels and Labradors/retrievers.. they had padding and I knew they were fairly sturdy dogs.. are greyhounds as fragile as they look.?
I have 3 kids that would love a dog in their lives, and I feel that this could be our choice.. can someone advise me please?
They are athletes and very durable.
Dommage que ce sot expliqué en anglais je ne comprends que qq mots et ça m'intéresserai de tout comprendre le discours. J'adore les chiens. 💘👍
Great video.
Great video!
well you haven't met our greyhound yet so she's very hyperactive barks
