Very nice to see such a fitting tribute to this former magical place. I visited with my family I believe about Summer 1971. I recall being somewhat disappointed with its smaller fairground offering than Billy's larger camps, however the competing Pleasure Park was bang opposite the camp. I always recall seeing its old monstrous "mountain" Scenic Railway standing but not operating at that time. (Apparently it had previous storm damage).
Well done everyone on a fine turn out for this special occasion. A special thanks to Stue for mentioning me in his speech and to Tony for his compering. Your Worship The Mayor and your good Lady have shown us more respect than we could have ever imagined by giving up your time to honour us with your presence and unveil this tribute to Billy Butlin and the Camp at Barry. I am sorry I could not attend but my thoughts were with you all. Fondest regards, Dave.
OMG, Dave Simpson in this. I holidayed at Barry From 73-81 with my mum and dad, so many happy memories. My dad got on really well with Dave, so much so that we got asked by Dave to appear in the Phillips family show in the gaiety theatre after my dad brought the house down with his antics on the first week , if anyone can pass a message on to Dave to say thanks for the memories. My dad is Cyril Chesters and he’s still alive and well
What a fantastic unveiling and done with so much dignity, remembering so many that were there on camp from all the well loved campers to all the staff behind the scenes. I`m so proud to be a part of The Redcoat family, you are all fantastic :-)
