I really like this video, just super informative and entertaining. I think for your damage section, one key difference between damage and threat in multiplayer is you NEED much less damage every turn (outside of a few minion-heavy encounters). An aggression player in 4 player will routinely be able to keep a board clear of minions (for a typical encounter) if they build for it, but a justice player can need help thwarting even with a deck built for multiplayer. So a character like Ms. Marvel isn't punished as much for having low damage because you might see 1-2 minions on a typical villain turn, and therefore she may not even need to contribute anything to help with that. Meanwhile, the justice player in a 4 player game needs to thwart at least 4 per turn, plus more for side schemes and people flipping to alter ego, and the justice player needs to do that every turn.
Great point. I did try to convey that threat removal was the thing most-needed for multiplayer, that it scaled up a lot, but I didn't spell it out this precisely. Everyone's gotta chip in with the thwarting when it gets bad!
Fantastic vid! Really enjoyed it. 39:17 For Spider-Man puzzle my ranking for pairing would be: Phoenix, Cyclops, Wolverine, Colossus. Now to unpause and see your thoughts 😂
Loved this video, and I'm super excited for the next pairing video. Obviously Cyclops pairs well and Colossus not so much. I think personally I would choose Wolverine over Phoenix. Phoenix does cover Spider-man's two main weaknesses, but she kind of just covers one or the other (restrained or unleashed). I would find her a lot harder to pilot for that reason. Wolverine covers the minion issue easily, so with him you would just need to make sure one player runs justice or leadership to cover the thwart.
Great video as always, VT. While many of these ideas are fairly intuitive, the analytical breakdown and the focus on some of the nuances is what makes your content stand out. Keep them coming, because this really is the most interesting marvel champions RUclips channel for me.
I prefer to play 2 hand solo, love building a team and going to the lab to tweak a little bit here and there! Also, I love how you can customize the villain! Definitely my cup of tea for building a team is a mix between #1 and #2!
I play 4 handed solo and ive just been picking them as one per aspect and trying not to overlap card needs. So heres what i learned. Ban dr strange. Thats it. :D I havent learned much, but im trying to settle into a list of favorites. Great video!
Banger video. Some of your best stuff yet. I play mostly solo but sometimes my girlfriend will team up with me (if i beg enough). So these ideas will help me make a good choice in future. I try to make my deck the board and threat manager whilst she bashes the villain. I loved the quiz at the end with Spiderman and potential team mates.
With your point on power, I run a lot of Marvel Champions game (being a president of board game club) and the strength of the hero does not matter. Each time I see people underperforming is because of terrible deck (precon) or slight misplay. Because a misplay can mean a person can play an extra cards or do more threat.
Hm! I suppose this video was more built from the perspective of everyone having a custom deck and so on, I mostly play multiplayer myself these days. But I'm sure it varies a lot everywhere. From my experience power does make a notable difference.
Another great analysis. I think that the deck building principles and priorities for solo play are the same in multiplayer, just spread over 2 or more decks so balancing the heroes becomes important. I look forward to hearing you explore more of the paired hero synergies.
That's a great way to put it. I think I say something similar in my Pairing the Aspects video but I don't remember. It basically applies everywhere! Thanks for the kind comment
Where is the 2 thumbs up option? AWESOME guide dude! Yay, this is the first time I've actually heard others talk "properly" about (most) Enc-SS scaling factor for MPer as such! Love the call out! Being saying it myself for ages too. Comparing apples to apples: 1P vs 4P; assuming EACH player drawing a single Enc card that is same/equivalent "2+hinder2" SS 1P game: 4 threat hits table on 1 SS = 4/player 4P game: 4 SS, Each SS has 10 threat = 40 threat = 10/player {yeah 4 vs 10 using 'the same' SS entering comparison} Sure, I'll admit "some" SS are fixed threat but that just means they all get that same fixed for those SS reveals and result in no variance if EACH player draws same equivalent. It's those SS that come with some form of "hinder X" effect.
Brilliant! Love the thoughtful, comprehensive overview. It is great for new and seasoned gamers. Loved the challenge at the beginning figuring out which X-Men teams-up best with Ole Webhead - it reminded me of some of my favorite Marvel Team-Up issues as a kid!
I’d be interested in more niche combos between Hero’s. Ex) Magical Enhancements from Dr. Strange being placed on Quicksilver is basically the only time the card would ever be worth playing.
What a video!! It covers basically any detail so well and they are even ordered by priority which take a lot of work, knowledge and analitic skills to do so. Bravo! 👏👏👏
@@felixflauta416 I like Iron Man a lot (all slow start heroes actually). Quick Silver isn't the exception, but find it very funny he being a "slow hero".
Perfect timing. Friends and I are planning a 4 player game against Kang and it's on me to form all four decks. It would be nice if it didn't take seven hours to accomplish. 😅
Great timing indeed, I was just checking the comments! If you like, since you're a long-time regular viewer/commenter/Shadow of the Cast questioner, shoot me a message on Discord or to shadowofthecast@gmail.com! Let me know the heroes, aspects, and any restrictions/things you'd like included specifically and I'll happily build you some decks which work well together in 4-player. And if the heroes/aspects are open ended to any degree, happy to help choose. And of course, no worries if you'd rather not take me up on that! Either way I hope you have an epic showdown with Kang!
I've been looking forward to this video! I'm definitely wanting to play Rouge in my next multiplayer game. I've never player her and it sounds like a lot fun to pair those different traits. Awesome job again VT!
Amazing video! I got the right answer for the Spiderman puzzle but even then there's still so many things i didn't think about (like how Phoenix's nemesis synergy with Spiderman's swinging web kick). Overall i learned so many synergy points i didn't consider before this and i'm now excited to try them with my family!
Definitely something I think about when approaching the harder villains. Aspects help offset hero weakness, but a well balanced team can make it a breeze.
This topic isn’t even that interesting to me, but man, I can listen to you Talk about Marvel champions all day. Thanks for what you do for the community.
Great video. I always appreciate listening to your insightful and easy style. There’s always something to learn from this game and I appreciate you digging out the things that we don’t always see.
Great video! I play 2H solo almost every time I play solo, I love the fun interactions between heroes! I agree tho it's fun to mix and match aspects with heroes, you can play the same pair of heroes in many different combinations of aspects to provide a different experience each time!
Comment before watching for the algorithm.
I love the community poll topics!
Hearted and replied before reading. For the algorithm 😉
Just kidding! Hope you enjoy it!
I thought the best ones were this, in this order:
1. Cyclops
2. Phoenix
3. Wolverine
4. Colossus
Excited to unpause and see how close I was!
Same thought for me.
Great guesses!
currently running Colossus (Protection) + Wolverine (Leadership). It's been amazing in Rise of Red Skull.
Sounds like a super fun team - using the team up card I assume? Very cool!
Another absolute banger! Thoroughly enjoyed this deep dive. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do!

9:48 Quicksilver under "slow" 😂
Sadly mechanics not always fit with theme.
Great video VT!
Haha! I like to think of Quicksilver in Marvel Champions as slow to accelerate but eventually able to achieve very high speeds.
Slow setups absolutely pay off but the journey there has to be fun. Ironheart is fun to build. Ironman? Ummmmm
